Good Ending
"Hermione and Ron helped Harry stand. His leg was obviously badly broken, but at least he was still alive. They started back towards Hogwarts, glad that Voldemort was gone for good.
As they said their goodbyes, Harry smiled widely at Sirius.
'Ready to come home?' Sirius asked.
'Definitely,' Harry replied. 'Just let me use the bathroom,' Ron, Hermione and Harry all hugged once more, and Harry went to the bathroom. As he was washing his hands, he looked at his reflection and smiled. There was no more lightning-bolt scar."
Bad Ending
"Harry stood, facing Voldemort.
'YOU KILLED GINNY!' Voldemort laughed a cold laugh that sounded like bones cracking.
'You're next,' he said. Harry raised his wand in defense. He so badly wished that his friends could be here with him. He missed them so much....if only Voldemort hadn't ki---
Harry was struck in the stomach and immediately began to moan. He knew that he was dying. Voldemort stood over him, smiling his yellow-toothed smile.
'Goodbye to the Boy Who Lived. Now, you're just like the rest of the world. Mortal.' He walked away, casting one final spell on Harry over his shoulder.
The only way that they knew it was Harry was by his lightning-bolt scar."
(btw for the first one, sirius came back. i know that he's dead.)

... Harry turned to Ron and Hermione grinning madly. They had won. They had won! "I know," he exclaimed full of excitement, "lets take a holiday in Madagascar"

I wouldn't be suprised if Cho died, maybe she tries to avenge Cedrics death and gets killed in the process? Which in turn would anger Harry and make him attack Voldemort and than one of the two or both will end up dying. It's rather hard to say since there's soooooo many characters in the books that picking just two to be killed off would be hard because you question how and why etc. But I like my Cho idea, I could see her doing something like that. Another thing I was thinking of was maybe Fawkes has something to do with the final book? Maybe Dumbledore could come back, after all his pet was a Phoneix, and they're known for coming back to life right?

Harry knew that even though Voldemort was gone, others would rise up and take his place. The Wizarding World was no longer a safe place for him. So, with his wand, he cast one final spell. A spell that would make him forget everything...forget he was a wizard, forget about Hermione and Ron...forget about Ginny.
"Forgetus Myus Pastus" Harry said, pointing the wand at himself. A bolt of magic struck him in the forehead, and he collapsed on the ground. A few moments later, he woke up and found himself lying in a hospital bed.
"There, there, keep still," a nurse said, wiping the sweat from his forehead. "Nice to see you awake."
"What? Wait...who are you? Who am I?" Harry asked.
"You're in the hospital," she said. "Got a bad case of amnesia, I'm afraid."
"What's my name? Do you know?" Harry said.
"Well, we ran your fingerprints through the database. Couldn't find anything. What do you think you want to be called?"
Harry thought about this for awhile. "What do I look like?"
"Well, with those glasses," the nurse began. "You look to me like...an Oscar."

I can't say I know anything about the books, but I love the films. I adore Hermione. The only complaints I have had so far have been: The look of the werewolf in the 3rd film. The black dog looked more like a werewolf (also didn't love that they went with the "all werewolves are evil" concept)! The freeze frame ending to that same film (a little goofy). And Hermione's PMS throughout the 4th film. Plus, it seemed like the director schooled her in bad acting. Through the others she always seemed to be improving. Then, boom, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, she became a terrible actress. Because it was a sudden change, I blame the director. Many people don't know this, but bad acting is sometimes the fault of the director. One of the few tidbits I picked up working in the independent film world.

I'm starting to wonder if Rowling lied about the last word. Maybe she leaked the last word intentionally so that we (the fans) would talk and debate about it over and over therefore creating free publicity for the last book, and than when it comes out more copies will be sold because everyone will want to read it to find out if it's true or not. So maybe the whole thing is a hoax? We just sort of assumed she was telling the truth because she's the author, but than again I could be wrong....

I agree that the werewolf looked more like a werechihuahua, but overall the 3rd film was my favorite, despite the loss of some important info. It was the first movie that I thought really translated the feel of the books to the screen, which I mostly atribute to the excellent direction of Alfonso Cuaron. I also thought the Michael Gambon was amazing as Dumbledore. Though Richard Harris was physically closer to what I felt Dumbledore looked like, he seemed ready to keel over any minute, and Gambon overall captured the essence of the character, both the whimsy aspects and the powerful ones. The 4th film is my least favorite. I think too much was lost, it had to move far too quickly to begin to encompass all the material, and I LOATHE the "Do the Hippogriff" song. Plus I feel that Mike Newell's direction was not very good, particularly any scene in which Dumbledore flipped his lid, which happened far too often. It made me long for Cuaron's direction of Gambon in the previous installment.
Well, first she said it was subject to change, so she never intended to make this last word something permanent to cause lots of conjecture among fans. Second, I really don't think the final installment NEEDS any more free publicity. Regardless of whether or not we know the last word, this book already has more free publicity than almost anything I can think of simply because it is the last book in the series. The book will certainly shatter all records. Third, there are more things in the book I personally want to know about than if the last word is scar.Chernabog_Rocks wrote:I'm starting to wonder if Rowling lied about the last word. Yeah, I agree about Dumbledore's lid-flipping scenes in the 4th film, and I think overall the 3rd is my favorite as well. Though, that's always tough to say, because first installments have their own sort of magic. The discovery of the saga's world and all, which we got to experience through Harry's eyes, as it was all new to him as well.

I agree. I still enjoy seeing the first movie because it brings back when I first saw it. And while Chris Columbus may not have been the best choice, he does know how to work with kids and get as good a performance as they could give then. I think he did a really good job with the second movie, though that may just be because I really liked that book, plus I thought the Basilisk was much creepier than I envisioned, and that made the film so much cooler in my eyes.slave2moonlight wrote:Though, that's always tough to say, because first installments have their own sort of magic. I have to admit, while I remember loving the second film too, there's something less memorable about it to me. However, it could be that it is the one I have seen on TV the least, lately. I'm going to have to break out the DVD soon for a refresher. It's easy to remember the first, because it's the first, the third because it's the dark one with the werewolf, hyppogriff, and time turner, and the fourth because of the tournament, ball, and cranky Hermione.

i also like the third movie the best because it is my favorite book. like i've said many times my absolute favorite character (or at least on of them) was Sirius. before that im not even sure who was! and i loved the book for bringing him in. the fourth book was my favorite because i always loved reading about quidditch and it wasn't really in the 4th book ('cept at the beginning) because of the tournament.
im soooo excited, though. i have my book already preordered.
i don't care if the last word is "scar" or not. i admit, i probably will peek to see if it is, but if it's not i won't die of sadness or anything like that. i mean, come on, it's just a word!
i really, really can't wait, though.

Now, to get this thread back on track... not that it isn't fun or anything...
I'm pretty sure most of you guys have heard about early reviews of OOTP. Like the previous four films, a rough cut of OOTP was screened in Chicago, much to the delight of a very small movie-going percentage that happened to be there. One review at the following link reveals what is cut out of the film, what is left in and what is changed. (That link also has four additional links to reviews on various other sites, such as Aint It Cool News, The Leaky Cauldron, and Mugglenet.)
Be warned: there are heavy spoilers and there could be scenes being worked on in post-production that might be added to the final cut, so the WB might have the director re-insert a scene to clarify the purpose or meaning of a plot line (I heard the WB re-instated the end scene between Harry and Dumbledore in GOF because the omission or lack of explanation confused test screening members).
Overall, I'm happy to hear the news about the fifth movie and after reading the spoilers, the vast majority of what was either left out or changed makes sense cinematically. And before you guys argue about what scenes should've been retained just because it was their personal favorite scene, J.K. Rowling had final script approval for all five films (and the remaining two have yet to enter production) and whatever didn't make the cut, it doesn't contradict or change anything in the following books and movies.
So with all that out of the way, let the opinions fly!

Well. Judging from that, I really hope they expand upon the ending with more Dumbledore. That was a fault of GOF, they trimmed too much of Dumbledore's explanation and suddenly just went to that really lousy scene of Hermione outside Hogwarts smiling lightly and saying "Everything's going to change now, isn't it?". I wanted to shout "Of course everything's going to change, Lord Voldemort just returned and the first of what will surely be many deaths has occured, so why the heck are you so indifferent?!".
