Ratatouille on the Wii.
Ah, yes. I meant to post that too. There was an interview on GameSpot about it as well.

They've done a 'First Look'; interview and gameplay footage (probably similar to above).

It doesn't look too bad, although I guess time will tell.

I have a odd question about the Wii. I'm still planning to get one, although I'm going to wait until after I get my new TV in May. Hopefully by then I will be able to easily find one in the stores...

Anyway my question is about the VC Games. There are several that I want to download when I get a Wii, but I'm worried about spending money on them. As I understand they are tied to the system you download them on. So what happens in say a year or two if your Wii breaks. It would be out of the manufacturers warranty by then, so I'm sure you would need to buy a new system. Can you still access your VC Games somehow? or is all the money you spend on them basically lost?

I really don't want to spend a ton on these games if I wouldn't be able to transfer them to a new system if the one I bought stopped working.

Hopefully, if they already haven't, Nintendo works out a way to do this.

First of all, there are two ways that this can be handled, in the event you should have to replace your system, or send it in for repair. From what I know, once you register your Nintendo Wii, you can sign up for a free "My Nintendo" account at Nintendo.com. If you already have a "My Nintendo" account, then cool. When you sign onto the Wii Shopping Channel, you have the option of linking your Wii Shopping Channel Purchases with your "My Nintendo" account. In doing so, everything that you download from the Wii Shopping Channel will show up in your "My Nintendo" account. I'm assuming that this is a plus, so that if you ever have to replace your system, Nintendo can give you information on how to restore downloaded games and channels to your new Wii. However, I am not 100% positive, so the best thing I can tell you is to contact Nintendo, or log-on to www.Nintendo.com and browse their support section.

Second, I have heard of a couple of cases were people have had to send their Wii system in for repair/replacement, and when Nintendo sends you the form to fill out, they have an option to check, on the form, that tells them to put all the Virtual Console games and Channels from your system onto your repaired/replacement system.

I hope this helps you. You can find more information on their support page, at the address I gave, above.

Yep, if your system is broken don't return it to the shop, send it to Nintendo and they will transfer all your games and channels to your new system

Today, I picked up Super Paper Mario for Wii. I must say, I am really enjoying this. This is a must have game for anyone who owns a Nintendo Wii. I have played an hour of it, so far, and am totally addicted. It's got great design, awesome gameplay, and it's got some of the most hilarious writing I've ever seen in a game. The humor is terrific. Switching from 2-D to 3-D is an awesome experience, and using the Wii remote feels very natural. I haven't played any other Paper Mario games, but, this one has made me a believer. I'm going to have to go out and pick up Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door (GameCube), next.

Anyone else with a Wii pick up Super Paper Mario? If not, run, don't walk, and buy this game!

Well I've had my Wii for about 3 days now, and I'm worried about it.

When I first got the Wii the first game I put in was Mario Kart for the Gamecube. I wanted to "test" a Gamecube game before I starting playing Wii games. It loaded fine, and then when I tryed to eject it my system froze up. I didn't think anything about it, and reset the system and loaded up Wii Sports.

I played Wii Sports for around an hour with a few people and then went to the Wii Menu to change a few settings. Then I selected Wii Sports again and it locked up. It sat there and the disc drive made some odd noises. It sounded like it was working way to hard. It then displayed a can not read disc error message. I reset the system and it loaded up fine. Played some Paper Mario and Wii Sports off an on for the next two days with no problems at all. Until tonight...

We wanted to get a few games of Wii Sports in before a show came on that we all wanted to watch. Anyway I put in Wii Sports and it loaded up a little slow. The screen turned white for a few seconds (after the warning screen), and then Wii Sports loaded. We started up a game of Bowling and noticed that it took about 4 times as long to load the game. It would sit at a black screen for a few seconds during the load times. After the game was loaded it worked fine. When we exited Bowling to play Golf it did the same thing. At this time I noticed something odd. The disc drive was making some odd noises during the load times, like it was working too hard. Although it was nothing like the noises I heard on the first day. We took Wii Sports out and put it back in. Problems disappeared instantly, and we were able to play Golf, and a few more Bowling games no problem.

I haven't been home a lot to play my other games much, but the issue hasn't happened so far with Paper Mario. I'm beginning to wonder if its the Wii or a disc. The system isn't hot, and its got plenty of air going to it. Not on the carpet either (It was at first when I got the first lockups on day one. I moved it right after that. I was excited to get it working, and didn't take time to clear out a spot for it near the TV. However my friends Wii has been on his carpet since November with no problems at all.).

I don't know what to do. I love the Wii, but this reminds me of the horrors of the Thompson drive I had in my XBox. I really don't want to send it back to Nintendo and get a refurb. The system is only 3 days old, however if I return it I might not be able to get another one for awhile.

If I knew I was going to have problems I probably wouldn't have got it. The joy of the Wii, has become a worry for me. Worried that it will just die at any time. After the problem tonight, I just couldn't enjoy playing the system anymore. I need to do some more gaming on it to keep testing it out, but I just don't want to anymore.

Anyway maybe what I'm experiencing is normal, I'm not sure. Browsing several forums it looks like my issues are minor compared to a lot of posts. I think I'm going to give the Wii a few more days, and if it does this anymore I'm going to return it and either get a different system or my money back.

DarthPrime, have you set the system up to go online? If so, did the system perform any updates?

I don't know what to tell you. I've only had a couple of issues with my Wii, and one was an issue with the Wii Sports disc. I had my Wii for a couple of weeks, and had mainly played Wii Sports. I put The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess in for a few days. I then wanted to play Wii Sports, so, I put it back in. When I did, it wouldn't load. It said there was an error reading the disc. I ejected it out, turned the system off, and put it back in. Since then, I haven't had a problem. I have had a few issues with the system freezing, from time to time (not while playing a game, but, while switching to a different channel within the menu). After the last update, where they released the final version of the Wii Internet Channel, I haven't had the issue.

If you are worried about it, try seeing if the store where you purchased it has anymore in stock. If they do, you have a 30 day period when you can return it. If not, then call Nintendo. They have excellent customer service, and I have heard that if people have had to send their Wii in, the turn around time is very quick. I also suggest going to Nintendo.com, and reading through their FAQ's. Also, if you register there (or are already registered with a MyNintendo account), then, when you register your Wii, they will extend the warranty for an additional 90 days!

Just don't give up on it, and get your money back. You will certainly find the system to be quite enjoyable. I'm so glad I decided to get one, instead of one of the other more expensive systems.

I hope this information helps you. Let me know how it turns out.

Yeah I'm not going to give up on it. I was just upset at the time I wrote the last post.

I actually think it might be my Wii Sports disc. I just got done playing a few hours of Zelda, and then stuck Wii Sports in to see if it loaded. It loaded up fine and I went though a game of bowling.

I did notice that there is a very light scratch on the Wii Sports disc. It has to have come from the cardboard sleeve the thing came in. I don't know if thats why I have had trouble or not. I did put it into a blank CD case after I noticed this, and I'm going to pickup some blank DVD cases tommorow to put it in. As far as locking up on Mario Kart when I tryed it I have no clue. My 8 year old cousin used to play my Gamecube a lot when he stayed here after school. I'm sure the disc isn't in the best shape, but it works great in the Gamecube.

Is the Wii pretty sensitive to scratches? If so that might be my problem.

Anyway my Wii is not online. I don't have a wireless router (plan to get one in a few weeks for the Wii). Paper Mario did a small system update when I put the game in. I'm sure its not running the latest updates though, since its not online.

Well I don't know what was going on with my Wii, but it seems ok now. After I cleaned off the Wii Sports disc (still sad it has a scratch :( ), everything seems to work ok.

I've played Wii Sports off and on today, and logged in several hours of Zelda. No problems so far. I'm really loving Zelda, and I can see that this game will take me awhile to beat.

I've put Paper Mario aside for now to focus on Zelda. I sort of wished I had held off on Paper Mario and got another game to just pickup and play. Oh well I'll get around to playing it later.

Good to hear, DarthPrime! Zelda really is a great game, but, I still haven't beat it. Once I bought Super Paper Mario, I have been playing that. I should put Zelda back in, just to finish it. I'm just having so much fun with Super Paper Mario. Oh, and I've also been having a great deal of fun with the various Virtual Console games I've downloaded.

I just ordered a Wii bundle pack online today. The total was about 498.00 (if you include the tax and the shipping and handling) With it comes:

The System with Wii sports
An additional Wii remote
An additional Wii nunchuck
A Wii card worth 2000 points
A Wii Classic Controller
Rayman Raving Rabbids
Warioware Smooth Moves

I should get it sometime in July.

On a side note: I was going to get a Wii at Toys R Us last night, but someone bought the last one by the time I got there. That was really annoying.

Hope you enjoy your Wii when it arrives (a sentence not able to be said outside the context of a gaming relating forum thread).

Just bought a Wii game last week (or is that Wiik?). Mortal Kombat: Armageddon was the name, and fighting is the game. It has been a while since I've played any MK games (indeed, MK4 for the N64 was my last!) and I was mightily impressed with it. Maybe the ability to custom design redheads in their underpants was the selling point, but bless the good people at Mortal Kombat HQ for thinking of it. It's also great that you can use the classic controller/GC Controller as an alternative to the Wii-mote. The latter has some neat features to it, but it just feels more natural to button mash with the old school controllers.

I have a odd question. Has anyone had problems with WiiConnect24 leaving it on all the time (yellow light on system when in standby). I've noticed that the left side of the system gets warm after awhile, not hot though. People in some online forums have complained that the Wii overheats, and dies because of this. Is this true or just typical online rumors?

I don't want a dead Wii from heat, but I don't think it gets hot enough to hurt anything. I've had PCs on for years that hardly ever get shut off that get hotter than the Wii with no problems.

Just wondering what everyone is doing regarding the Wii on standby? Should I hold the power button in to turn it off (disable WiiConnect24/red light)? Or just leave it? Nintendo did design the Wii to be connected 24/7 so it shouldn't cause any problems I don't think.

I haven't had any problem with my Wii getting too hot. It does get warm, on the left side, when in standby. That's normal. My Wii sits verticle, in the stand. I just make sure there is plenty of room between the system, and the sides of the Wii. I don't think you should worry about it. I have had my Wii since November, and have had it connected to WiiConnect24 since then. I do unplug my system when I leave for work, or, if I'm going to be gone for any extended period of time. If you should receive a message/update/etc. while it is unplugged, as soon as you put the system into standby, it will check for those things. I hope this helps.

So far I've unplugged it a few times because of bad storms we have had. Its warm, but it feels the same tonight as it did 12 hours ago when I noticed it.

Time for more Super Paper Mario! :D
