NEW Forum Layout

Post by Luke »

Okay, well I lost the frame (actually, not altogether, but it's nearly invisible for the time being)...

There's now a permanent header above with links to the different sections of the site (with a bland logo that will be changed at some point.)

Is it okay?

Ohh, two navigation bars on top. Nice job Luke!

I like pulling down the frame seperator.

The new look is great.

Im sorry to say but I dont like it. I come here just to read the forums, and I dont like extra stuff having to load up. This forum already loads slower then the old one did, but I am learning to deal with it. Yes it doesnt take that much longer, but still when it is running slow...its SLOW.

If I want to go to the home page or something, I will. I highly doubt I will ever use the links listed there.

Sorry...

Why not put a link to the home page onto the UltimateDisney.com banner? Now there are two links to the Forum Index page.
I don't think the liks at the top are necessary at all. At least not on the forum pages.

(Actually, when I first came to the forum I thought the banner was a link to the Home Page, and not to the Forum Index.)

I'm confused. There's only one link to the Forum Index page, the UltimateDisney.com banner by default. The one that says UltimateDisney.com HOME will take you to the homepage.

And Trevor, I appreciate your feedback but I seriously doubt that a few lines of text and a 4 KB image is making the forum significantly slower for you.

That's not what I said. I said this ENTIRE forum (the new style) is a LOT slower then the old one. If you notice, I dont post as much cause it takes too much time to just read the topics I am interested in. What I am saying, is that some consideration needs to be taken in for those with slower internet. If you are going to add something to the site, make it something good. Those links are totally unnecessary.

Make sure you read my post before commenting.

Actually, I did read your post, but I can't particularly see speed as a major issue. For one thing, you're the only person who's made any comments about it. For myself, it loads as fast as any other site I visit on the Internet. I'm assuming you're on dial-up?

And would you say it is slower than other sites you visit (besides the old pop-up infested condom board)?

As for the content being totally unnecessary, well I'll have to disagree there. That's the foundation of the site, and with exposure and traffic being the major hurdles they are...I'm going to think that people who find the forum should be able to find the very site that houses the forum with ease. Without that section, the only way to get to the site would be to click my personal homepage link.

Furthermore, even if people (like yourself) know about the site and its various sections, I think this is undoubtedly beneficial for navigation. It provides links to all the major sections of the site - works that are the result of hours and hours of toil - within the same place. If you're on the forum and you want to check out the Upcoming Release Schedule, it's one click away. Reviews, etc.

Maybe you don't care about that stuff, but that is the site, which was created from the start and I feel that it's worthwhile stuff for people who have an interest in the subject. I'd sure hope it isn't "unnecessary" - otherwise, what the hell am I wasting my time updating it for?

I've made it as load-efficient and space-efficient as possible, and now it's no longer ever-present as a frame.

I'm sorry to hear you've been experiencing slow load times, but I have to think it's more to be blamed on your connection than on the forum design and content.

I like the new design, the only problem i have is the double "ultimatedisney.com"-banner that looks kinda silly, you should remove the one of em (imo the bottom one) otherwise it looks great! :)

hah! Now it's gone, gee that was fast ;)

It certainly looked silly and was only temporary. Must have taken time for the new picture to be refreshed for you.

Thanks. :)

Sorry about the slow load up Trevor, don't know what to say, I bet that it really annoying.
Luke, I have been using the top links, and was a big fan of the site before venturing on to the message boards, you are doing a great job, and nothing is unneccessary. :) Keep up the good work!

P.S. Like the Avatar! It say "I'm the boss"

much better- only thing I'd say here is could you:

change the colour of the text at the top, or stick it on a background of a different colour- blue on blue's not always that easy to read

Just one other thing- instead of ultimatedisney.com forum home between 2 cds, could you put it between 2 disney characters (eg mickey mouse or someone else)

I really liked this idea. I also got rid of the "UltimateDisney.com" as The Department of Redundancy Department felt it was already around plenty enough.

Trevor, I'm going to look into adding a Style for you that will load faster, one with a more text-based interface. I'd also recommend changing the number of topics per page to something smaller than you currently have, if the settings even allow you to. (Not sure about that.)

There is another one below it - the text only link.
But now that you've changed the banner, it's not confusing anymore. Thanks.

Good. It's redundant like that by default, for some reason. The new banner placement should be clearer. Thanks for the feedback.
