Harry Potter--What We Love, What We Hate, and Anything Else!

Post by Jasmine1022 »

SPOILER WARNING

Alright, this thread was started so that the Stephen King thread could go back to being a Stephen King thread! Lol.

Alright, let's spark this thread with a question--Severus Snape: Friend or Foe?

Friend:

1. In Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, why did Snape attempt to protect Harry from Professor Quirrell?

2.Why didn't Snape go to the graveyard immediately upon being summoned by Voldemort in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire?

3. In Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, why did Snape alert the Order of the Phoenix that Harry was facing danger at the Ministry?

4. In Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, why did Snape agree to teach Harry Occumency?

5. Dumbledore tells Harry he trusts Snape in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and again in it is implied in Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. Would Dumbledore, the most powerful wizard of his time, misplace his trust in Snape?

6. Why does Snape spare Harry's life in Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince?

Foe:

1. Beginning with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, Snape displays a great dislike of Harry. Is a childhood grudge against his father reason enough to hate Harry or is it something more?

2. Why is Snape so set on expelling harry from Hogwarts in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets?

3. In Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, what were Snape and Karkaroff conspiring about?

4. Knowing the danger Harry faced, why did Snape continue to goad Sirius in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix?

5. In Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, what were Snape's motives for his Unbreakable Vow with Narcissa?

6. And, of course, there is the major question of Snape and Dumbledore in Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. We'll leave out the details for anyone that may not yet have read the book.

(I got those questions from a bookmark at Borders, so if any of you have that, that's where I got it.)

Thoughts?

Come on, let's start a LIVELY thread here.

Because Snape is secretly sexy.

2. Why is Snape so set on expelling harry from Hogwarts in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets?
Because Snape doesn't want the competition for who's sexiest at Hogwarts

3. In Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, what were Snape and Karkaroff conspiring about?
How to reveal his sexiness to the world

4. Knowing the danger Harry faced, why did Snape continue to goad Sirius in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix?
Because Snape is deviously sexy

5. In Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, what were Snape's motives for his Unbreakable Vow with Narcissa?
His motives were to be sexy

6. And, of course, there is the major question of Snape and Dumbledore in Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. We'll leave out the details for anyone that may not yet have read the book.
Dumbledore couldn't resist Snape's sexiness

All in all. Snape is sexy.

Totally friend. There's never been a doubt in my mind. Dumbledore trusts him completely. That's all I need.

i personally think that is is a set up. i think that we are SUPPOSED to think that snape is a foe but he's really not. and i also think that dumbledore knows something that we dont.

that doesnt mean i like him, though....i cant decide if he's a friend or not. i THINK he us but i'll just wait to find out.

I think Snape is a double agent and is still on the orders side. I think he will have a huge part at the end of book 7. And one of 2 things happened, Dumbledore is not really dead, or it was a plan and Dumbledore plans for Snape to be his successor

For some reason, I think that there was some spell that was put on him that when he dies, he will return and be alive again. But I don't know, I guess we'll just have to read the book.

Dumbledore- Dead. He's not coming back. Harry needs to go on his own with just his friends from now on. With out Dumbledore holding his hand the whole time. This book will be about the final confrontation. Dumbledore can't save him again.

Snape- good guy. There's no way Dumbledore is wrong.

Sirius- coming back. We still have no idea what happened to Sirius on the other side of the vail. We need that explained. We also haven't seen the last of the mirror Sirius gave Harry.

Hagrid won't survive the book. Niether will Snape or a few of the Weasleys.

Ron, Hermione, and Ginny will survive, but probably at a price.

Harry's future is still up in the air.

JKR has said many times that Dumbledore is dead and not coming back.

As for Sirius...I think we'll somehow see more of him.

You know, as much as I like Dumbledore, I will be upset if he comes back. I'm glad that she killed off a major character and he HAS to stay dead! But Sirius MUST come back.

Personally, I think Harry should die...I would forever love JK Rowling for killing off her main character. I love Harry, I really, dearly love him but if he died it would be...interesting, and it would make a good end to the series.

QUE?!?!

What about Ginny?
And I'm guessing (and hoping) you mean that Harry and Voldemort will both die.
I really don't see that happening.

JK Rowling has hinted many times about Harry dying...and if both he and Voldemort were killed...it's really not that much of a stretch.

i am going to admit right up front that i am a strange person. i wanted meredith to die off of grey's anatomy just because she is the main character and NOBODY EVER kills off the main character. plus, i think that he will die because she wrote the end to this story right when she first started writing on paper napkins at diners.

She never wrote on paper napkins. She has said in so many interviews that this is not true. She made like one little note on a napkin, but never wrote whole sentences on them.

And I just happen to have that napkin. I'll just read her note. Looks like, just let me flatten it out, yes, it says "Harry dies horribly at the end." :P

Well - isn't the last word of the book 'scar'? I have hope that Harry will survive.

I also feel that Dumbledore is dead, because JK Rowling has said so numerous times.
I feel the veil is a loophole that will bring Sirius back to us in one way, shape, or form.
I really believe that Snape is good. I trust Dumbledore's judgement.

I cannot wait for this book to be released. I'm hoping that Barnes and Noble delivers my book on the day of release, not ships it on that date. I read the last book all the way through in one sitting.

And the movie releasing the same week! I'm going to be in Potter heaven.

She said unless she changes it drastically, it will indeed be "scar". Personally, I'm hoping it will be a really ant-climactic ending that goes something like:

"Whew," sighed Hermione, "I'm sure glad You-Know-Who is dead."
"Me too," replied Harry.
"So what should do now?" asked Ron.
"Ooh, let's watch 'The Lion King'!" suggested Harry.
"I love that movie!" Hermione exclaimed. "My favorite character is the one voiced by Jeremy Irons...what was that lion's name?"
Harry shook his head at Hermione and sighed. "His name was Scar."
