Re: Disney Story
Well it cost me a lot of money but its worth it
Thanks you for welcoming me!

I have received some queries regarding my collection, so I feel it would be a good idea to explain why I retired from trading video with other collectors.
I was able to find most of my Disney video wants through trading with about 40 other collectors over a period of 20 years. In most cases, the trades were more hassle than they were worth, since numerous collectors cheated me in the trade (claimed to have material they never sent or never sent anything at all after I had sent my side of the trade). Even collectors who did eventually send me their side of the trade did it months or even years after they promised to send the videos. I'm still waiting for most of the material in my last trade that was supposed to be completed by the end of 2002. I sent my side of the trade in July 2002.
While I have often made a gift of sending copies of some of my collection to other fans who had nothing to offer in trade, I feel I've done this often enough in the past and don't feel a need to continue to send out videos with only a thanks in return. In fact, some of the recent favors I did didn't even get a "thanks" in return. I couldn't even get a reply verifying that my video(s) had been received.
So, last year, when both my VCRs died about the same time (I have worn out over a dozen high quality VCRs in my 20 years of playing, copying and trading), I decided not to replace both VCRs and instead replaced both with one DVD/VCR combo.
I still love my Disney collection but have donated much of my Disney collection to people/organizations that I knew would get much good out of my collections.
I still own some seriously rare items as I described in various posts on this thread and other threads (such as the True-Life Adventures).
But, other than the posts I occasionally leave on various Disney message boards, I'm not interested in e-mailing other fans and "talking Disney" - I've done that for 20 years or so and don't generally have anything left to say. My articles and contributions to books and websites (I have many descriptions of the cartoons on the Encyclopedia of Disney Animated Shorts website) is most of the "talking" that I'm now interested in.
Hope this answers some of the questions I've received. I apologize for the delay in replying, but I just noticed today that I had messages awaiting reply outside the normal postings.

As far back as I can remember, i have always loved The Little Mermaid. Don't know why or how and i didn't even see it in theaters. I was born a year or so before it was released into theaters. After that, I remember also liking old favorites like The Sword and the Stone and Cinderella. I only liked the really uninteresting old ones for their fabulous art and drawings and paint backgrounds. Like, Snow White, hated the movie but the art was beautiful. Then, the first movie I remember seeing in theaters was The Lion King. Which, at one time roamed in my top five with Aladdin. Then they began making newer movies like Mulan, Pocahontas, Hunchback of Notre Dame and Tarzan. All of which began to get that awkward sharp-edged art style. Hercules came out, and made me fall in love with Greek Mythology(sort of) even though it was more a mythology of its own and was drawn like a comic book or something. The art fit the movie itself, so I could deal with it. Then newer movies cam like Atlantis and Emperor's New Groove, both having the worst animation in feature films. The Emperor's New Groove didn't bother me with its animation style since it was made to be more funny than artistic in the first place. Atlantis just completely killed me! It had the greatest potential to have a good movie, but I just couldn't get past the way they drew it(I'm an art freak, so sue me!). Lilo and Stitch then came, and had good art, but was the most boring movie I've ever seen. Treasure Planet came next, and I loved it, even though it is called a failure by everyone else. Yeah, so it was based on Treasure Island, but it turned out to be a completely new movie. And, let us not forget the God-Awful sequels! Their are very few sequels I can handle that have been shot out into the public. The Lion King 2, Pocahontas 2, Both Aladdin Sequels, The Rescuers Down Under and Beauty and the Beast The Enchanted Christmas are the only sequels I particularly like, although they definitely don't beat their originals. I don't mind sequels for movies, I just think they need:
1. Good, fresh, new plotline.
2. The same characters, or new characters that aren't always spawned off from the original movies' characters
3. The animation has to be as good as a theatrical movie.
Ever since The Little Mermaid 2 I have stopped buying the sequels. The only sequel I've heard of that has came out that sounded mildly interesting was Peter Pan 2 and I never like the first much.
So, there's my deal.

Hi Im Juan Pablo
Hello everybody, im new,
My names Juan Pablo and i discovered the forum a few weeks ago, im from Colombia, Im 23 years and im about to finish my architecture studies, I love very very much to draw, I cant help it, I draw in every peace of paper I have I my hand –including architectural plans unfortunatly,
lol- I just love the feeling of the graphite of the pencil when it tocuhes the paper, mostly I draw faces, I like to catch the diferent small differences between our facial features in every angle and expressions I can get.
I guess my story started when I was 8, my parents rented for me 101 dalmatians, I couldn’t belive that those characters werent alive, I still remember the whole Roger´s song on Cruella –in the spanish version- and I thought I wanted to be part of the creation of the magic beyond the screen.
Then I discovered what is an animator, an inbetweener, a model sheet, uuuuufff, thinking of being part of that world, working in the disney building at burbank is still one of my biggest dreams. Yes, I know that theyre selling the drwing tables, and that people is amazed with the look of the tridimensional animation, but drawing is the way I want to express whats inside my heart and im not going to give up, not without fight.
By the way, I would like to ask if theres any animation student in here, maybe you can give me a little information about schools -we don’t have any in my country-
As a colombian I have a special mission everwhere I go –including disney fans cyber forums, jeje- and that’s showing the positive and good face of my country, tell people that we have big problems and stupid people doing bad things but most of the population is composed by beautiful people from diferent races, people who wanna live peacefuly, people who dream, and sing, and create.
I would like to be a part of this big family and to participate as much as I can, youve got a friend in me.

My name's Aaron, and I turned 18 a few months ago. I've pretty much been a HUGE Disney fan all my life. I used to watch the VHS I owned until they literally wore out and rented the others, and read the books and listened to the soundtracks at a very early age. I can't remember the first ones I saw, although the three I was really raised on were Mary Poppins, Pete's Dragon, and Bedknobs & Broomsticks. They remain favorites of mine to this day. I watched the classics when I was little (Candleshoe, Darby O'Gill, etc.) and the animated favorites too. Lion King is hands down my favorite animated movie, but that's followed very closely by Aladdin, Bedknobs & Broomsticks, and The Little Mermaid (in no particular order). I haven't seen a Disney movie that I HATED yet, but there are some that I'm much less crazy about. When I was little I used to act out Disney movies and even made a 'documentary' on Disney on tape when I was a small kid... watched it the other day when I found it. Pretty embarassing now, lol. The amount I like Disney has wavered through the years, but I've always been a big fan. I've been to WDW 6 times, most recently for senior week this past summer with my girlfriend, my roomate, and his gf (who is also my best friend), which was a blast. We went to all 4 parks and rode at least 95% of the rides. We're going to WDW with my family again this spring. I'm looking in to attending the WDW college program if I can find a way for UNC to accept credit for it. Anyways, glad to be here at UltimateDisney.

Hello, I'm 33 years old and have been a Disney fan for a long while.
Can't really remember how I got into the cartoons, probably from watching the Wonderful World of Disney on TV and the occasional movie.
Went to Disneyland for the first time aged 10, and it was awesome, still have very happy memories of my first visit. I've been back many times, last time I visited was in 1999.
Favorite movie would have to be Alice in Wonderland. Other favorites are
Snow White, Lion King, Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast. Also have a very soft spot for Basil the Great Mouse Detective.
I'm also a fan of the Disney Treasures series. Sadly still waiting for the new DVDS in this series to be released.

The Treasures are puzzling. We have those wacky Fables and Everybody Loves... things out (exclusive to Target and K-Mart respectively), but no Treasures. My best info says they will be out in the next few months, but the OFLC does not seemed to have cleared them yet. So who knows?
At any rate, welcome aboard...

Hello!
I've been visiting UltimateDisney for several months now, and I finally decided to join. Bashful as I am
, I've been too shy to step out of the closet and admit my addiction to anything Disney.
I'm a 24-year old girl from Finland, and I've been into Disney as long as I can remember. The first film I ever saw in a cinema was a Disney Classic (Cinderella, I believe), and as many Finnish children do, I probably learned how to read through Disney comics.
I never had any Disney home videos as a child, but I started to collect them at the age of 13. And from The Little Mermaid onwards I went to see every classic, even if I was the only teenager/adult in the theatre without a 6-year old 'alibi' with me. Fortunately appreciation for animation has grown over the years, so that you don't get funny looks anymore for buying/wanting to see a 'children's film'. Not that I've ever cared about the frowns...
Disney trivia is something that I've always liked, and my fandom has deepened over the years. However fun it is to quote lines from the Lion King or other Disney films, it's even more satisfying to learn about the tricks of the trade, and see why and how these films were made. In addition to the Disney art books, I love the advantages of the DVD and Internet era. It's so much easier to find information nowadays.
I can't think of everything right now, but that's at least the main frame of my Disney story. It was pure luck that I found this forum. It's wonderful to find a group of people with same interests, so I'll keep on posting!

greetings... I've been wandering and posting about the forum for most of the morning so I thought I should probably introduce myself.
My name is Athena (yes, really). I'm 26 and I live in the temperate paradise of Vancouver, Canada.
I have been a fan of animation for as long as I can remember... not necessarily Disney animation, although in North America they do tend to be the studio to beat.
After meandering around for a couple years after I finished university as a graphic artist and web designer, I finally began pursuing my dream of working in animation... I am currently in the second year of a two-year program in 3D computer animation and looking forward (with a certain amount of trepidation) to finishing my demo reel/first short film sometime this fall. Don't get my wrong, I absolutely love 2D animation... but unfortunately it's just very hard to find work as a 2D animator in North America--as I'm sure the recently laid off Disney Florida animators will tell you.
I have also run a website for the past five years which profiles animated films, TV series, shorts, Christmas specials, etc. and lets users write their own reviews of them... (see my sig)... it's not an exhaustive resource yet, but I'm working on it. At the very least, it keeps me sane while I'm in school.
see you around.

Well since I am new here I figured I would post a little about myself before I beging replying to posts.
For as Long as I can remmeber I have absolutely loved Disney! My favorite movie when I was little, and still to this day, is The Little Mermaid. I loved the music, story, and characters. Since then, I have seen the Disney films as they were released in the theaters as well as the classics. I am definitely luck to have grown up during the "Second Golden Age" of Disney Animation (although I love everything they put out).
As you can tell by my name I love the Disney villains. I think the characters are so unique and interesting. I love each of their perosnalities and they are a higlight for me in each of the films. Among my favorites are Ursula, Hades, Frollo, and the Queen.
I found the site while trying to find information about the Platinum releases. I think UltimateDisney is a great place to get my information and love that there are people who love Disney as mush as I do.
Well, thanks for reading and I will be periodically responding to posts when I can.

Hello, I'm Escapay. I'm 18, and I suffer from short-term memory loss. It runs in the family...at least I think it does. Hmm, where are they?
Hello, I'm Escapay.
If anyone here knows Kram Nebuer, I'm his brother, and I joined ultimatedisney solely to get on his nerves
Actually, I joined because I too am interested in Disney, just not as much as my brother, and obviously not as much as the people here. I just may reply to a post with "that's great!" or "I agree!". It's just refreshing to talk about Disney, which if you get rid of the politics behind it, is probably the most positive thing someone could talk about for hours on end.
