All right... I may get grilled for this if there are any mega Zac Efron fans on the board, but after watching You Tube clips of Drew Seeley filling in for Zac Efron on the concert tour I wish he would have been in the movie.
Most of us already know that he already is 99% of Troy's singing voice... but I think he looks like the average high school guy and I think he and Vanessa Hudgens look great together.
I just don't think it's fair that he received little credit in the actual movie for being the singing voice as Troy. Most HSM fans aren't even aware of this.
I second Escapay's motion to replace Vanessa. Actually while we're at it, let's just change everything since it's just a musical version of most t.v shows on Family Channel now, only in this it's longer than a t.v episode, and instead of just talking they sing about their problems, accomplishments, and playing basketball for some reason...
I think it's great that the REAL singing voice of Troy is getting credit at last, but High School Musical made a lot of Zac Efron fans. He became a huge star from that movie, so I'm not sure how the public (by that I mean the screaming teenage and pre-teen girls) are going to accept him as Troy.
You know what? I went to the concert (which was kinda embarassing because me & 3 of my friends were probably the oldest people there aside from the parents, but it was amazing nonetheless) & Drew was very good. I don't know how he is at acting, but he was a great singer. But I've got to admit, I think Vanessa & Zac have a bit more chemistry together. Maybe it's because I'm use to them being together?

Oh man that succccks...I feel bad for your cousin...since she's a Zac Efron fan and he's not even the singer! I guess to me thats like replacing Brenda Song as London Tipton...AAAAAH I'd die...
I know that Zac's coming back to do the sequel, but I'm not 100% sure that he's coming back for the Halloween movie- I read that he either is not doing more HSM stuff after the Halloween movie, or he's not sure if he's coming back for the Halloween movie. I haven't seen the concert (even though I wanted to!), but I'll definitely buy it when it hits stores. I like Drew's singing voice ("Dance With Me" from 'The Cheetah Girls 2' is great)...I think that, if there's another concert tour for HSM2, Drew would be in that, but, as far as the movies go, I can't see Disney replacing Zac with Drew unless Zac refuses to sign onto a movie.

The only reason I bought the DVD was because I thought he was a good singer ... and it's not even him! *laugh*
I wouldn't say that he can't sing, because I guess he IS doing the singing in the upcoming film Hairspray... so I guess we can finally hear his true singing voice there.
I really hope Disney keeps Drew on for the sequels... I guess they thought Zac's singing voice was too low for the High School Musical series. But I don't think Zac can outsing Drew at all.
Ok, Here's how it is. Zac Efron DIDN'T sing the songs in the movie. He only sings the solo on the balcony (which isn't really a song, just one line with no music). He also sang the opening line of one sing but I'm not sure which one.
There were rumors about blended voices, but they aren't true. Drew sang alone in the songs.
Why? Basically because the male singing voice roughly goes like this:
High: Tenor
Medium: Baritone
Low: Bass
Zac is a baritone and drew is a tenor. The directors wanted a tenor for the role, but liked Zac playing Troy as they thought it suited him better, thereby fooling millions of fans worldwide.
Zac Efron can sing, but the filmakers wanted a different kind of singer for HSM. The only part Zac sang in was "Something New" reprise, the scene where he was on the balcony & Gabriella forgives him.
Zac has just finished filming "Hairspray," which is a movie musical, and from what I've read, he uses his real singing voice in that one.
