'Pirates' and 'Mansions' for Hong Kong?
Rumours of Pirates of the Caribbean and Haunted Mansion making their way to Hong Kong Disneyland have been about since the opening of the park. Could there be pirates in the park by 2010? Will there be a Haunted Hong Hong? There will be if one 'insider' rumour is to be believed.

Lutz's article does mention a few "C & D" rides for this new area. I wouldn't necessarily say Peter Pan would be in there, but I'd imagine a few new dark rides...Big Disney Fan wrote:Well, it looks like more classics are on their way. Now if only they would add some of the FYL dark rides, like Peter Pan...

They need at the least one more dark ride...
Are the plans still for an Adventureland "great white hunter" style Mansion and a more Splash Mountain styled Pirates? If so *great*--i really want this park to start getting some distinctive slants on Disney classics and not just be a mini version of Anaheim's

Huanted Mansion should be called Huanted Palace with 999 Chinese ancestor ghosts. Ghosts family from Mulan are in there.

After the rumours last week of a Pirate themed area based around the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction and films. Thanks to the Disney Company's Annual Report, we now have a look at what it might look like.

Squinting at the tiny concept art (of my new favourite section)...
Could that be the Haunted Mansion little pirate looking building in the
bottom left hand corner?
It'd be cool if it was. Its very sea-side old school creepy.
It'd be a very sea-shanty style Haunted Mansion though.
But would explain why the N'Orleans has the Boat Weather Vane & why
Florida has a Sea Captain staring portrait.
Perhaps the Captain was always having trips to this Pirate Cove?
Since I remember from the Bride In The Attice story that Constance was always upset about the Captain being away on sea-shanty style trips all the time.

Look out! There he is!

Patience! The only things confirmed are IASW, Animation Academy and the Mickey's WaterWork's parade. Anything else, include this Pirates area, is pure speculation at this point.Disneyfreak1990 wrote:that looks so interesting. now i'm glad that IASW, Pirates, HM, and Fantasmic are coming but what about Big Thunder, Matterhorn, Splash, and Indy?
However, if the Pirates are does happen, it could be some time before we see any of those other things. It is a miracle the park is expanding at all! It was cut back so much from the original plans. To quote myself: "Imagineers had designed Peter Pan and Little Mermaid attractions in Fantasyland. Adventureland would have been the place to visit a dinosaur archeological site and ride a jungle rollercoaster. More importantly, the original plans included a Toon Town and a Frontierland, the latter of which was to feature Haunted Mansion, river rapid rafts and the It's Tough to Be a Bug show (for some reason)." (HKDL Source) It was only the pre-opening reaction that forced them to put Autopia back on the bill, and that only opened 8 months after the park did.
Besides, Disneyland in Anaheim is the only one to have Indy and the Matterhorn, so I don't expect to see them in Hong Kong any time soon. Something based on the Indy engine would be cool, though. With any luck, the Pirates/HM area will be next, and I think that will vastly change what people think about HKDL.

I didn't really follow the opening of HKDisney or pre opening info--why was it cut back so drastically? I still find it criminal they don't have ONE of the classic Fantasyland dark rides...
I know this isn't the thread for such but has Hong Kong Disxsney caused any change in the amount of visitors TokyoDisney gets?

Between the initial announcement and the May 2004, gone was any mention of Peter Pan, the Little Mermaid, dinosaurs and rollercoasters in the jungle. Much of this had to do with budget cuts, in what many perceived as Disney 'cheaping out'. It was almost as if Disney wanted to branch into China, but without going to too much expense. Now, we can't blame Disney completely here - the Hong Kong SAR government is a 57% shareholder, meaning they had to approve many of the changes and expenses to the project. It is a miracle anything new is getting built at all with all that red tape.EricMontreal22 wrote:I didn't really follow the opening of HKDisney or pre opening info--why was it cut back so drastically? As it stands, I don't think they are impacting on Tokyo. It is the much better park, and its figures - as far as I know - remain high.
