I don't care much about Cars losingg the Oscar but i was really disapointed about The Little Match Girl losing the Oscar to The Danish Poet.

Darn, that Academy--They didn't give Destino the Oscar, so this result was expected.

I was sad when The Little Match Girl lost best animated short, but has anyone even seen The Danish Poet? I myself am now interested in it, and would love to see it. It seems that a lot of negativity towards it, is not about the actual quality, but that it beat the "big studio" shorts.

I haven't seen The Danish Poet, but I still feel mad that The Little Matchgirl lost. When will the academy reward Disney with some Academy Awards for their in-house projects!? The Little Match Girl was their last (pre-Pixar possession) 2D animated project eligible for an award, and again, they didn't win it...

Do you realize that since the conception of Best Animated Film, WDFA hasn't won a single award? It's sad.

Happy Feet and Monster House weren't even animated films, they were motion capture. I liked Monster House, it was a fun movie but maybe films using motion capture should be judged as special effect movies rather than animation?

I was very dissapointed and very surprised. I didn't see "Happy Feet," but it didn't look appealing to me at all. I was surprised that it even made money and when I heard it was nominated, I thought it was just because the Academy didn't feel anything else deserved to be in there and it was just filler. I knew "Monster House" wouldn't win. I saw it in theaters and I enjoyed it, but not as much as "Cars," which I thought was amazing. The animation is so detailed and the style is very appealing. Sure the film has its faults (it should be shorter and maybe to much time is spent on unnecessary character development), but I still thought it was better than how "Happy Feet" looked. I'm going to rent that film when it comes to DVD, but from what I've heard from friends, it was pretty rediculous.

While I did enjoy Cars I do not believe it was oscar winning level. I haven't seen Happy Feet, so I can't be a fair judge on the film, but what is most disappointing about this past year was the lack of high quality animated films. Hopefully this year will be different with Ratatouille and Meet the Robinsons.

I'm disappointed Flushed Away didn't even get a nomination---a measure of how completely Dreamworks had given up on their Aardman relationship, I guess. It was far more entertaining than I expected, at least as much fun as the Wallace & Gromit feature. Really, is there a three-film limit on Best Animated Feature nominees?

It's amazing that Oscars used to be given for films and performances sometimes years after the fact. People like Randy Newman or Peter O'Tool would have been given pity Oscars by now in the old system.


Disney rarely wins Oscars for shorts anymore because they're the Big Studio seen as "the man" so the alternative films always win. This is Oscars way of saying "Ha Ha, Mickey! We don't need you!" Has a Disney film even ever won the Best Animated Feature Oscar and I mean Disney, not Pixar. Even with Pixar, Monsters Inc. is a by far better film than Shrek. It's never been about the better film though. Spirited Away won the year after that and Nemo after that. WHo won since then? I forget.

not for Best Film, but they did win for Best Original Score "Beauty and the Beast". I thought Beauty and the Beast won best Picture, but no, I was wrong. It was nominated though.

I feel "Cars' was robbed on the song. I thought 'Our Town' was beautiful. One of the few songs I play over and over when I listen to the sound track.

I personnally hated it with a passion. I quite like Melissa Etheridge though, so I'm glad about the choice for this category!

Randy Newman already got his pity Oscar with "If I Didn't Have You" from <i>Monsters, Inc.</i>, while Peter O'Toole got a Lifetime Achievement Award earlier in this decade.

If there are less than 15 films submitted for awards consideration, then it's a 3-film category. Otherwise, it's five. I believe 15 films were submitted this year, but <i>Arthur and the Invisibles</i> was deemed ineligible for some reason, perhaps the amount of live-action it had.

I haven't seen Cars yet, but I thought Happy Feet was excellent (Monster House was excellent as well, but doesn't hold as much repeat value). The story may have been all over the place, but the film had a heart and the true ending is just uplifting and energetic. And if anyone is going to argue that the reason Happy Feet won because it supposedly had an environmental message (and that An Inconvenient Truth also won Best Documentary), think again. George Miller had been working on the film for four years, so that reason holds no water.

I was glad that Cars lost. It didnt deserve to win. It had a really weak story. That being said, Happy Feet certainly didnt deserve to win either. This was one of the worst movies of 2006 for me. I loved Monster House and it's a shame that it didnt get the gold.

It's all politics with the Academy. They have already awarded Pixar/Disney twice before in this catergory with Finding Nemo and The Incredibles. They probably just wanted to spread the wealth.
Also the fact that almost every other award show, like the Golden Globes, BAFTA's and the National Board of Review now suddenly have their own Animated Feature catergory, the Academy may have wanted to show that they didnt want to award Cars just because other shows have.

you mean that was the song from a incomplete truth that won, i thought the song that was the winner was "Its getting hot in here", sung by Al Gore that they had on Jimmy Kimmel live they had on after the oscars. haha now that was funny(of course it wasnt really al gore but still)

You know speaking of AL gore i had to laugh when it was announced, this years oscars for the first time was GREEN, yeah tell that to the employees at the chinese theatre gift shop (right next to the kodak theatre) who were breathing in all the "GREEN" exhaust fumes blowing into the giftshop even with the door shut. durring the set up when they had big generator truck parked and running in front of the gift shop friday and saturday.

I really like happy feet though, that was a awesome movie, we hosted the premiere at the chinese back in novermeber and i was blown away by it watching it then. what a great movie with great animation. and my gosh briteny murphy has a really beautiful singing voice.

iam sad monster house didnt win though i have a friend who worked on the movie in post production.
If you were lucky enough to check out Monster House in realD 3D Digital, that was the way to experience that movie, simply just a amazing film.

I'm so happy that Cars lost the Oscar! As a film it was pure stupidity. Happy Feet was at least a musical adventure with beautiful songs and cute characters- I'm sorry but I cannot identify with a car, for goodness sake!

So, essentially you are saying that people who enjoyed Cars are stupid? Because, you are saying the film is stupid. I'm sorry, but, Cars was far from stupid. I don't understand why some of you can't see the charm in the film? The story is a great one, and was told in a unique way. Just because you can't identify with a car, doesn't make the film stupid. What of Pixar's other films? Can you identify with a fish? A toy? An insect? Why is it that people can identify with those things, but, not a car?

That's not to mention that you must be able to identify with a dancing, singing penguin.

At any rate, Cars IS the best animated film from 2006, and I don't need any Oscar award to make it so.
