Cars lost the Oscar
As the title says, Cars lost the Oscar to Happy Feet. How do you feel about the Academy's decision?

I was more insulted Cameron Diaz(and sadly, most likely more than 3/4ths of the Academy most likely), couldn't get her history right.
Walt Disney won the Oscar for Snow White in 1939, not 1938, because the Academy was too stupid to give them anything for Walt's gigantic achievement, so they felt "forced" to give him an Oscar when the public demanded they give him something for his innovating effort.
But of course, think of all the controversy that would've caused.

Same, but replace Happy Feet with Monster House. I still haven't seen Happy Feet. I'm a little disappointed that Cars didn't win the Oscar.SpringHeelJack wrote:Arguably, I didn't care for any of the movie nominated, but I enjoyed "Happy Feet" much more than I enjoyed "Cars". THANK YOU! I cannot believe that Disney gold lost to a crappy, plot-holed, penguin movie.brownie wrote:Same, but replace Happy Feet with Monster House. I still haven't seen Happy Feet. But I did enoy the animation at the oscars.

Alright, so it was Pixar, not Disney...but it was soo much better than Happy Feet. I honestly think it won just because the makers had to animate mass crowds of penguins. Big, fricken deal. Is story a factor?Escapay wrote:Much better.numba1lostboy wrote:I cannot believe that <strike>Disney gold</strike> tarnished Pixar brass lost to <strike>a crappy, plot-holed, penguin movie.</strike> a silly but much more enjoyable film

I was disappointed at Cars' loss, but not angry. Happy Feet is a very good film, in my opinion, even if it's story structure is all over the place. I loved Cars, but it's still one of the weaker Pixar efforts. It doesn't have much replay value with me like Pixar's best do. Besides, this was much more acceptable than the major joke of 2001: Shrek getting the very first Best Animated Feature Oscar over Monsters, Inc. THAT'S something to cry foul over.

Story's always a factor, which helps to explain Cars' loss.numba1lostboy wrote:I honestly think it won just because the makers had to animate mass crowds of penguins. Big, fricken deal. Is story a factor?

i haven't seen happy feet and i dont want to. the fact that it is about a group of penguins that sings and that the one that can't sing dances instead is just ridiculous.
i didnt think it looked cute or funny or inviting. it was way too hyped up.
and, i heard people either loved it or hated it. people seemed pretty together on cars--it was an all over good movie. not spectacular, but i enjoyed it, and i think it should have won over happy feet (even though i didnt see it)

What annoyed me is that Cameron Diaz seemed to be saying that 2D animation was definetly part of another era, as if everything we'll have in the future will be 3D. Admittedly, all nominees were 3D, but in no way it means that 2D is over (hopefully). Ah well.
I haven't seen Happy Feet nor Monster House, but Cars really wasn't so good, although enjoyable. I did not feel the least bit surprised that it didn't win...

lack of imagination that isAladdin from Agrabah wrote:I'm so happy that Cars lost the Oscar! As a film it was pure stupidity. Happy Feet was at least a musical adventure with beautiful songs and cute characters- I'm sorry but I cannot identify with a car, for goodness sake!
to me there is less life in a motion captured dancing penguin than there is in a talking car.
