Sleeping Beauty
ok, has there been a confirmation that thiz movie will b released as a PE? i think that instead of re-releasing a movie that waz released when dvds where popular, they should re-release the older PE that not a lot of ppl have(Snow Whit and Beauty and the Beast). i hope that disney doesn't start re-releasing all the movies that have been put into the vault. i mean now that they are releasing a perfectly SE mayb they will re-release Alics in wonderland, Mary Poppins, Nemo, Monsters Inc. since they arent PE..does anybody agree with me on thiz?? STOP RE-RELEASING THE MOVIES THAT PPL HAD A CHANCE TO GET AND RELEASE THE MOVIE THAT HAVENT BEEN GIVEN THE PROPER TREATMENT

I'm gonna say yes! They will re-release the others such as Snow White and Beauty and the Beast sooner or later. I don't think its really any harm for this to be released first (they probably want the PE line done in its first run before they start re-releasing it again). And as long as we are getting 101 Dalmatians next March, I'm fine with whatever is next!

Re: Sleeping Beauty
Yes, there has been confirmation for "Sleeping Beauty" to be released as a Platinum Edition DVD, like in 2003.potterrules93 wrote:ok, has there been a confirmation that thiz movie will b released as a PE?
Well, eventually Disney will start doing that. Once the rest of the Platinum Editions are released ("Peter Pan" "The Jungle Book," "One Hundred and One Dalmatians," "Fantasia," and "Sleeping Beauty"), they will redo the cycle, and start back at the beginning with "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" and so on. At least that is what is most likely.i think that instead of re-releasing a movie that waz released when dvds where popular, they should re-release the older PE that not a lot of ppl have(Snow Whit and Beauty and the Beast).
Well, once in moratorium (the Disney Vault), there is a specific time when the films will be released again, somewhere between 5 and 9 years. This is why we saw the Big Top Edition of "Dumbo" last year, because the 60th Anniversary was out of print, and Disney thought it would be a good oppurtunity to release "Dumbo" again. I don't understand the "i mean now that they are releasing a perfectly SE" part. "Alice in Wonderland," "Mary Poppins," "Finding Nemo," and "Monsters, INC." are not part of the Platinum Edition line, so it would be difficult to release them. Besides, they only movie listed there that could have a much better release would be "Alice in Wonderlad" seeming as it only had about 1/5 of the song demos that should be on there.i hope that disney doesn't start re-releasing all the movies that have been put into the vault. i mean now that they are releasing a perfectly SE mayb they will re-release Alics in wonderland, Mary Poppins, Nemo, Monsters Inc. since they arent PE..does anybody agree with me on thiz??
Well I think that this is a matter of opinion. Some people, like myself, jumped upon the Disney DVD bandwagon late. My first Disney DVD was "The Lion King," and I know for a fact that some of the already released DVDs like "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" and "Beauty and the Beast" among others were out of print and already very difficult to find. Some people, like requila (sorry, I just had to use you) had the chance to jump on the bandwagon from the very beginning having almost every single Disney DVD release imaginable. So, that could be subjunctive, and your own opinion seeing as people got on board of the bandwagon before/after many others.STOP RE-RELEASING THE MOVIES THAT PPL HAD A CHANCE TO GET AND RELEASE THE MOVIE THAT HAVENT BEEN GIVEN THE PROPER TREATMENT

I believe Sleeping Beauty does indeed deserve a Platinum re-release. It would seem cruel that less groundbreaking films would enter the collection and not this. Besides, even though Walt was only sporadically involved ith Sleeping Beauty, I think that was the last animated feature where he was at least present through every stage of production. Once the movie tanked at the box office, he no longer seemed enthusiastic about animated films, and only seemed to voice an opinion on the 60s ones whenever he was asked to (and even then, most of his decisions were made in pre-production).
As a DVD, Sleeping Beauty is excellent, but it could use more extensive features in terms of retrospective. The film only has about half an hour's worth of modern featurettes. I'd like to see Sleeping Beauty get a nice 40-minute and above documentary. Unfortunately, after what we've seen with Peter Pan, that may not happen. Then again, Peter Pan was obviously rushed because of the last minute date change. Perhaps Disney has a more concrete date planned for Sleeping Beauty, which would give the DVD producers time to really come up with some gold.

Sleeping Beauty is a masterpiece (and one of my favourites also)! It must have a Platinnum release! I'm really looking forward for it!

They took us to a magical journey under the sea, they show us how a beautiful girl can look into a heart of a beast, they even made us fly on a magic carpet...
Someday the magic will return!

It's just my own opinion, probably based on the fact that I own all 8 PE's so far, but I want a Sleeping Beauty PE before re-releases of SW and BATB.
Sleeping Beauty is one of my all time fav's and it's proving a lot more difficult to find a used copy of it than of either BATB or SW. I wouldn't mind seeing BATB or SW being reissued as long as they don't take the spots of films that haven't had a PE yet.

Should it get one? I love the film. I think it's beautiful. It's one of my favorites. Yes, I really think it should get one.
Will I buy it? Well, that remains to be seen.

There are some countries where that SE wasn't released! Here in Portugal, for example, we only have that poor gold collection edition! We really need a PE to that wonderful disney classic!potterrules93 wrote: i think that since they already have a GREAT!! special edition out there is no need for a PE.

I thnk Sleeping Beauty definately deserves Platinum Edition status. The 2-disc edition that is already out is a wonderful release, but the Platinum line is such a prestigus collection of Disney DVD's that Sleeping Beauty should definately be a part of. Not to mention 2009 appears to be the year that will wrap up the Platinum Edition line (first run at least) and that marks Sleeping Beauty's 50th Anniversary.

Given that Sleeping Beauty is out of print and impossible to find, even at video stores, and I'm kicking myself for not being able to find it? Yeah, it should have a Platinum Release. And what are you talking about? Alice in Wonderland, Finding Nemo and Monsters, Inc. are all already out on DVD, and I can't speak for Alice, but owning FN and MI, I can tell you that they're very well done DVDs. And besides, they aren't even Disney. True, they had Disney involvement, and Disney now owns Pixar, but Disney's line of most cherished classics shouldn't include their subsidiary's films, however good they are.

I voted yes for a few reasons.
1.) I personally love Sleeping Beauty, it's my favorite. So, i would love to see it with that good ol' Platinum banner
2.) I'm a sucker for good cover art and the SE's art kinda sucks. I think Disney would do a much better job with the PE's cover art.
3.) I'm sure that most of it would be transferred over but I'm sure there would be a few more newer things that I would enjoy because it's Sleeping Beauty.
4.) Aurora is that only princess in the typical princess line-up (Snow White, Jasmine, Belle, Ariel, Cinderella, Aurora) that hasn't recieved a PE treatment yet. In this respect I think a PE of Sleeping Beauty would sell very well.
5.) I would love to see the publicity that this movie would recieve as a PE.

Given that the Platinum banner has never been used outside of the US, it doesn't really matter all that much to me what the thing is called. I own two different editions of the film, both are 2-Discs (one UK and one US). One is called a "Special Edition" and the other is a "Deluxe Collectors Edition".
You know what? They are pretty damn good. Better than most of the so-called Platinums, one of the patchiest lines of lines that have ever lined a line.
The Sleeping Beauty disc we have includes commentary; making-of documentary, 3-D virtual galleries, music, trailers, 2 games, 2 Story Reels, design and restoration featurettes, live-action reference, music video, commentary, "Grand Canyon" short, and even some vintage TV in the form of a Disneyland episode ("Peter Tchaikovsky Story").
Could a Platinum Edition, aside from a new (slip)cover, really improve on that?

Well, I just watched Sleeping Beauty for the first time since I was a toddler. The only thing it left me wishing for would be more songs -- there were only two! But "Once Upon A Dream" is so good, it makes up for lack of other songs. I also would have liked to see more of Aurora as a character (more dialogue in the second half, I suppose) but we'll be getting -- correct me if I'm wrong -- two new Aurora stories come September! I definately think this film deserves a platinum edition.
