Is nothing sacred?
I've just read that Mike Myers is developing an "On The Buses" movie. Now I know this probably won't mean much to most readers of this forum, but for those who it does mean something just stop and think.

If its OK than it will be 200 times better than the tv sit-com. I was being somewhat sarcastic with my original comment, as its celebrated over here for being tripe - dated, misogynistic (and more than likely racist) tripe infact.
Imagine everything that makes the "Carry On Films" so naff; the sexist jokes, the cruel put-downs and the inane innuendo; and multiply it by 10. Then you are probably halfway towards imagining the abomination that is called "On The Buses".
But I do think the fact Mike Myers wants to make a film of it does mean the world has gone insane. If you're going to make tripe, at least make your own instead of copying someone else's.
The fact that Hollywood would even consider bankrolling a revival of "On The Buses" really does mean the world is doomed.
Oh well, according to the BBC, at least somebody liked it:
"Cor Blimey, look at the jugs on that!"

I can see this thread is going to turn into a "worst of British" thread. But, once asked, I cannot turn away.
The "Carry On" films are cheap, quickly produced so-called comedy films starring a bunch of (on the whole) untalented actors whose only skill seems to be mugging to the camera while repeating innuendo filled lines.
The series started in the 1950's with "Carry On Sargeant" which was an unoffensive British comedy (and notable for starring future Dr Who William Hartnell). After that two or three more "Carry On" films were released each year. Each one decending more and more into crudity.
By the late 60's the films were full of toilet humour, busty women, oogling men, sexual innuendo, inappropriate groping and more. Now, depending on your point of view, you may not find that such a bad idea. Until I say that most of the staring and groping was being done by men in their late 50's towards women in the early 20's. It's just so embarassing to watch. They even made a "Carry On Emmannuelle" for crying out loud.
Here's a typical story:
Carry On Camping
Sid & Bernie want to take their girlfriends on a nice, relaxing camping holiday...a nudist camping holiday! On arrival, however, they discover it to be just a normal campsite. Sid & Bernie's spirits are lifted when Doctor Soaper & Miss Haggard arrive with a coachload of young girls...
I don't think I need to say anymore...

(I will admit, "Carry On Screaming" is almost watchable, and is the best of a bad bunch)

"Alright you lot! This thread shoulda finished 10 minutes ago!"
You are right about one thing...any movie has to be better than the series.

James, and what's the worst thing about the carry on films is that there's a new one coming! (I secretly believe Daniella Westbrook was still on drugs when they asked her to be in it).
Don't even get my started on Benny Hill!
I wish you guys in the states got "Gimme Gimme Gimme" (maybe you have?) that show proves how to do offensive comedy right! I'm just glad you get Dawn and Jen over there.
