So all in all I guess it's only fair that Disney won't take this guy seriously.

I notice that in every story when the guy says he had the ink and the paper tested, he only says the ink comes from the 1920's, never anything about the paper. This is guy is obviously a fraud and the fact that the news wires are even giving him the time of day demonstrates an unwillingness to do any serious research and are only contributing to the sue happy people out there. It's really sad how the news media is always so quick to jump on the bash Disney band wagon.

WHen did History Detectives do a story on UB Iwerks creating Mickey? I've seenthe Performo Toys one. A friend of mine "in the know" told me that the reason Disney won't put the Ub Iwerks film on DVD was because they realized what it said about their "official" history. I went out and bought the tape after he told me that. But what did History Detectives decide? Personally, I always thought that the most likely sernario was Walt decided they needed a new character on the train ride back, decided on a mouse, told Ub when he returned and Ub drew Mickey. In one book I have it says Mickey is based off a mouse Walt had as a pet in a storage trailer he lived in in Chicago. But no other book ever reprinted this account. I wonder why? This was one of the first Disney bios too...

I'm sure some books have the story of him keeping mice as pets in a wastebasket when he was struggling after losing Oswald, and those mice leading to him coming up with Mickey. I know I've heard that story many times, though it's possible I mainly heard it on television.

No, this Walt keeping mice as pets was supposed to have happened betwen his high school and the Laff-O-Gram period. I've always read MIckey happened right after Oswald was stolen.
