Disney Duster, in you article, it said "Ariel is the #1 Disney Princess". This little topic made me laugh so much!

On the Cinderella DVD site it said "Starring one of your favourite Disney Princessess", and on The Little Mermaid DVD site, it said "Starring your favourite Disney Princess!" Which I was really happy about, as I love Ariel. But by saying that, it makes it seem as if Disney Princessess just happen to star in movies, but they are mostly on products placements. Do you see what I mean?

Like, "Cinderlla has her own sweeties, clothes, CDs, and dolls line. And oh look! A movie as well!"

Makes me laugh :P

Cinderella vs. Ariel

I thought that was funny too! Like the movies came out after the character, and they only made the movie because she's popular!

Well, I know you love Ariel, and I truly believe she is more popular than Cinderella, but Cinderella's my favorite princess so I was a bit sad to find all that out. I did actually read once that Cinderella was the #1 princess, but I definately could be mistaken. However, it strangely does say that she's "Disney's #1 Princess" in the press release for Cinderella III. Yet, I bet you are right that Ariel is the favorite princess. There's just a lot more products out there for her, and Disney Consumer Products is always touting her popularity. I do believe Cinderella is the second most popular, at least, just because she's everywhere too! She also just seems to be more focused on, like in Disney On Ice presents Princess Classics. Every princess except her did their stories in short versions in the first act, and then the entire second act was Cinderella's story! But now in the new Princess Wishes ice show, Ariel seems to be the center of attention. It looks to me like Disney thought Cinderella was #1, then found out how popular Ariel was and they shifted the focus from Cinderella to Ariel. That's my two cents.

Disney Duster, you know what? I was kinda suprised when Ariel was claimed to be the #1 Princess. Sure, she had a lot of products, (mainly in the Summer), but Cinderella always seemed to be EVERYWHERE. That same, tired old image of her slapped on everything. It made me really quite mad, as I love Cinderella, and I don't want to get tired of seeing her everyhwere. Which, In a way, I have a bit. :x I feel like, "Why can't they release new artwork? Would that kill them? Or have lesser used Princesses, instead of almost always using Cinderella, Belle, Aurora, Snow White. Use Jasmine or Ariel instead! But, with each platinum release, we get the focus put on whichever Princess it may be. So this year, Cinderella took a backseat, and Ariel came into prominance. The biggest example is the ice shows, last year Cindy, this year Ariel.

But, Cinderella will be back with Twist in Time in Feb, and her products will take prominace again. I noticed the press release as well; Cinderella is now #1! Does Disney just pick and choose who they want?? Its quite maddening!!!

I don't want to sound argumentative, thats just my view!

I'm tired of searching! I'm looking for a specific site which I came upon about a month ago. It has all sorts of Disney news, I think it has a light brown background. It has thousands of screen captures from different Disney movies. "The Little Mermaid" has about 700 high-quality caps from the PE assorted 100 caps a page. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

Actually no, but thanks. That one had screen caps from the PE while this one has the fever-of-fate LE caps... I'll keep looking for it though...

Edited to add: I found it! Check it out it's awesome... http://www.darkpolish.com/screencaps/im ... allery.php[/quote]

I would argue that Ariel is the most commercially popular Disney Princess. TLW is huge and never seems to go away, they've had toys and videos related to TLW in stores ever since the movie was originally released and more keep coming.

I've noticed that in recent years Disney has tried to push Cinderella merchandise around holidays, but I would still say that Ariel is the money maker when it comes to Disney.

Cinderella would definatly come in second though, and then maybe Belle.

It would be wonderful if she was the most popular, but she isn't one of the Princesses that gets used al the time. They are Belle, Aurora and Cinderella. I just wonder why they are always used.

It's because they legs and pretty dresses in place of Ariel's fins and seashell bra. Sure, Ariel can wear dresses, too, but the fishtail is what makes her iconic. Just like Cinderella's silver (or blue? ) dress makes her instantly recognized.

They should totally use Ariel more when she is human. I know she is essentially The little mermaid but she is human as well! I like seeing her in her pink, blue, and wedding dresses!

I finally got TLM for Christmas!!! Only it doesn't have a slipcover :( (it was ordered off Amazon). I guess maybe tomorrow I'll call Disney's Customer Service and see if they're willing to give me one. I've only called them once before and that was for a slipcover for Beauty and the Beast.

um yeah I just wanted say that your rude remarks are starting to get really annoying...so it would be nice if you stopped them, if you want to debate about your reasons on why you hate the little mermaid so much then thats cool, but saying things like that arent necessary in any discussion. Sorry to be a jerk about it.

Anyways um thats cool you finally got it Teen Artist, Im sure you'll enjoy it :) and yeah..maybe they do need to equalize the use of the Disney Princesses.

I second what you just said jeremy88. Timon/Pumbaa fan, there is no need.

Anywho, on with the topic......

I'm sure I read somewhere in an official Disney book, that Ariel was "the first immediatly popular Disney heroine" which is cool. I wonder why??

From the obvious reasons: the princess who preceded Ariel was Aurora 30 years earlier. Aside from the fact that SB was a miserable flop upon its release and Aurora an unappealing character with the public, I don't think cartoon characters were merchandised and sold as toys and plushes at Disney stores and McDonald's. Or am I wrong?

As for Ariel being the undeniably most popular Disney princess ever, you can attribute it to her fun nature: adventurous, mischievous, curious, funny and driven. It's enough to watch her 30 minutes as a mute to fall in love with her. Her facial expressions are alone to fall for. Plus, she's the prettiest of them all (but that's a matter of taste  )

Peace out :)

I know you dont like TLM and I respect that. I dont like it, but I respect that. I just dont see why you have to bash this movie at every available moment.

Here a MP3 of an interview from YTV (a kids-tween network from Canada) with Jodi Benson. Also the interviewer (Sugar as she was known on air) was in the Christmas special that airs on Disney Channel in the US "The Santa Claus Brothers" And the US/Can. Sailor Moon Dub.

Wow JiminyCrick91, what a great find! Its lovely to hear such a long interview with Jodi, as that was sadly lacking on the DVD. She is such as lovely, lovely person! And when her voice changed suddenly from Jodi to Ariel, it was amazing! Some interesting facts she gave as well, about Disney Execs not wanting her to play any other Disney roles, as she would always be just Ariel to them!

ALSO, its has now been confirmed that there will be a TLM III soundtrack, as she says they have just finished making it, with all new songs!! !! WOOOO!

well, both ariel and cinderella are the most favorite princesss so they said that only on them and not on belle or snow white.
