Junkie, I have a question:

(in white in case of spoilers that I don't know about)

Does Leslie, AnnaSophia Robb, die in the film? I know that she died in the book, something that I actually remember from 3 years ago.

Thanks if you can help, Junkie!

I have the same question. Anyway, I'm kinda disappointed. The book was magnifecent, but I was afraid about CGI monsters. Well, as long as it keeps to the orginal ending I'll be okay.

Has anybody else noticed who the director is yet? It's Gabor Csupo of Rugrats fame!

That doesn't automatically mean the movie will be like the Rugrats series and movies.

Well, I don't think anyone was assuming that. That's like saying "Y Tu Mama Tambien" is okay for younger kids just because Alfonso Cuaron also directed "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban".

Since I am such a computer nerd, can someone please tell me how to read those spoiler questions..............I never have quite figured it out.

And to answer the other question.........they have changed the ending of the movie from the book. That is probably what really ticked me off most about this film. It is such a wonderful book about a special relationship between these two kids, and they took it and made a CGI 'monster' movie out of it. It wasn't any fun at all.

Just highlight it. Right-click, hold it, and scroll over the white. Changing the ending makes me mad now. I was actually begging my father to take me and I kept on saying that the girl dies in the end, but since, I guess, that doesn't happen now, there won't be any point in going to see it. It's not taking my money.

Awww Man! Are you seriouse! Man that succccks..when me and my friend saw the trailer we were like wtf? Then my friend said..."looks like it going to be nothing like the book" so then I said "Well lets go see it anyways maybe they just don't want to put to much into the trailer.." Now im kind of annoyed...I guess I'll go see it anyway and not expect much, since The Bridge to Terabithia is one of my favorite books...

I'm very confused... I read someone else's review and they say that the movie is very faithful, and the original ending is kept intact, and that the CGI sequences are very short. Here is the review. (Not calling the original poster a liar or anything... I'm just confused.)

Spoiler Review: I have also seen the film. It is a very, very faithful adaptation of the book. My two kids have read the book (I have not), and they initially said they would not see the film, as it was obviously all wrong, based on the trailer. My son went to the premiere with me, and loved the actual film. He cannot wait to see it again.

The "big secret," of course, is the death of a major character, exactly as described in the book. In other words, it happens off stage while we are at the museum, and we learn about it in the same way the main character does.

The depiction of Terabithia is quite well done. As the children play and imagine, there is a sense that what they see could, indeed, be happening, and then it happens. These are very bief sequences that reinforce, rather than supplant, the plot.

While the film does seem to take some "poetic license" in the way of embellishing the world of Terabithia, the movie, as a movie targeted to families and Disney Channel watchers, looks quite entertaining. Sure it's not going to follow the book to the letter, but honestly, what book-based movie has 100% stuck to the original text?
No point to getting upset over it. I say just enjoy the movie for what it is. It looks satisfying enough for me. I can't wait to see it!

Oh, and I have read the book.
:pan: Love It.

It looks okay to me, I've always been a fan of fantasy stuff, but there's this little voice in the back of my head saying it looks like some fast and easy Narnia rip-off to keep us busy until they bring out the next Narnia movie. But I dunno, I'll wait until it comes out on DVD so I can rent it, I don't see any reason to rush to the theater to see it, especially if that little voice in my head is right.

I'm confused as well. I've read several reviews saying the movie is faithful to the book.

This is the first time I've heard the ending is changed.

After reading some of your posts here, I might have to go see this movie again. After all it was a first impression, and I have always said that if I want to be truthful in a review I will see the movie at least twice before giving it a "thumbs up" or "thumbs down".

When I said they changed the ending, I didn't mean that it doesn't have the same ending as the book, it just does it a different way.

Having read this book several times and I am currently reading it along with my two 7 year-old granddaughters, I find that the changes they have made to the book might be very subtle, but when you know the book inside and out, and they change things, it is a shock at first.

I just find that everything is hurried, like they were given this amount of money to do this movie in a certain amount of time, and that was that. I don't want to disuade people from seeing this, but I personally was let down by the film, and I apologize for any of you who may not go see this film because of the negative reviews that are out there.

Maybe we should all go see it, once more, or for the first time, and see it at a matinee so we don't feel we wasted a large sum of money on this.

I guess I was comparing this film to the great poduction that "Chronicles of Narnia" had, and this film is nothing like that. That being said, I just didn't like that they took liberties with the story and the flow of things that are so even in the book.

Here's a link to Variety's review of Bridge to Terabithia http://www.variety.com/review/VE1117932 ... =1263&cs=1
They give it a not wonderful, but decent review of the film.

the reviews are all positive so far:
Bridge to Terabithia is an example of a movie that does not deliver what the marketing campaign promises.
Don't be fooled by the CGI-laden, Narnia-lite trailers for Bridge to Terabithia: Far from a computer generated escapist fantasy, this film is an unpretentious and touching tale of preteen companionship and loss.
BRIDGE TO TERABITHIA is a wonderfully old-fashioned kids' film -- the type that reminds one fondly of old series like "Spin and Marty" that used to play on the "Mickey Mouse Club."

I'm actually very excited about this after reading UD's review. I wasn't looking forward to it before. I'll probably take my brother to see it tomorrow.

I'm fairly sure my friends and I will end up seeing it sometime on this four day weekend (We have Presidents' Day off, of course, and then Tuesday's a teacher work day). My mom claims I've read the book before, but I don't recall it at all. Who knows, maybe the film will rejog my memory.

I just got back from seeing "Bridge to Terabithia" with my little brother and I thought it was absolutely incredible. I would give it an A+. I would put it right up there with "Holes," another Walden Media film. The acting by the two kids, AnnaSophia Robb and Josh Hutcherson, was great. I expect to see both of these kids to go on and do great films, and both have pretty impressive resumes already. It was nice to see Zoey Deschanel in a more adult role. She plays the kids inspiring music teacher. I do want to give this advice: It you were planning on bringing kids younger than 4, you might want to find a sitter. Children under that age were squemish in the theater and there wasn't enough in the film to apeal to that age. I highly reccomend this film to anyone who was ever a child. It's just phenominal.
