"Peter Pan" Soundtrack

Post by musicradio77 »

Last year, I was at a thrift store, I found an LP called "Peter Pan", the soundtrack on the original Disneyland label. I hope you fan would love to see if the Platinum Edition will be coming out on DVD next month. Here is the album cover of the original LP.

Peter Pan is my favorite Disney movie, so I bought that LP on ebay a year ago. I really like Jimmy Dodd's version of "Your Mother and Mine" and I wish it would be released in some contemporary format in the near future.

Wow! Really great find! Do you think they will release a Special Edition of the soundtrack? With the new Paige O'hara song ?

It would be wonderful, but if I've learned anything from past experiences, it is that you can only expect a soundtrack getting a re-release if it is an October Platinum Edition. Cinderella had a special edition soundtrack, Lady and the Tramp got a kiddie collection with a few songs from the film and then other dog related songs. The year before, Aladdin got a special edition soundtrack, Bambi did not, although the old soundtrack did end up on store shelves. If Disney is going with this pattern, The Little Mermaid got a 2-disc special edition soundtrack, so I would expect Peter Pan to get a "Peter Pan and Friends" CD at the most. I don't think you'll see a soundtrack with the new Paige O'Hara song on it, but maybe someone will rip the audio from the DVD and place the mp3 on here for us all to download.

If no one else gets to it before me, I'll post an audio rip of Page O'Hara's "Second Star to the Right" when I get the DVD (should be same day it's released).

Here is another pic of side 2 of the label. The quality is kinda grainy, but it looks almost good. It has two songs by Jimmie Dodd "Following the Leader" and "Your Mother and Mine" and Henry Calvin's "Never Smile at a Crocodile". The song that was not included in that film, but it will appear on disc 2 on the upcoming Platinum Edition DVD under deleted songs or scenes whatever.

The label was kinda rare, and it was from the early 70's. The soundtrack on Disneyland has 8 songs from the film, 4 of them were newly recorded songs by Jimmie Dodd and Henry Calvin with Tutti Camarata as the arranger and engineer.

What, is she recording it for the "Peter Pan" PE? If not, what's it for?

Paige isn't recording "Second Star To The Right" for the DVD, T-Squad is. Paige is recording a deleted song (ala Clay Aiken's "Proud of Your Boy").
I want to say that the song is called "Never Land."
:pan: Love It.

$1.00, I got at a thrift store last year. I checked on Ebay at one time, but I don't buy it online, because I don't have a credit card with me.

Oh, poop, that's right. I'm sorry, I was writing during work and hadn't had lunch yet, so my mind was pretty out of it.

The Paige O'Hara song can now be heard on YouTube after an introduction by one of the Sherman brothers.

Wow, thanks a ton for that link, Dalboz! That was a lovely video. It gave me chills, and they recreated the nursery astonishingly well. I can't wait to see this in better quality on the DVD. That clip apparently came from mouseinfo. They've posted more clips from the event on their forums:

Clip 1: The Walt Disney Christmas Show (I hate you, BVHE...)
Clip 2: In Walt's Words: Why I Made Peter Pan
Clip 3: Live-Action Reference Photo Montage
Clip 4: "Never Land" Music Video (same as the YouTube one)
Clip 5: "The Second Star to the Right" Performed by T-Quad
Clip 6: Tinker Bell Pre-Show

Thanks for those videos, Disneykid. I can't wait for the DVD to come out. I just finished doing my podcast on the "Peter Pan" story taken from the original Disneyland LP, and it was a purple label. When I was a kid, the label was red and it had a different cover art from 1969. I have the one from 1960 with a die-cut "Magic Mirror" on the cover. I will put it on my podcast. I also found this pic of the album cover that I have here.

Oh. My. God. T-Squad sucks.
They absolutely BUTCHERED that song. Granted I really couldn't make much out of that video, but that was just plain wrong on so many levels. I can only imagine what the classic Disney team felt like while watching these teeny-boppers ruin the theme song of a film they worked so hard to create.
I think I would've been better off not having a music video on the DVD...

...I feel violated.

I agree. Their rendition is the worst cover I've heard from Disney, and that's saying something. Just think of Paige O'Hara's "Never Land" as the official DVD music video instead. That's what I'm doing.

I just watched the T-Squad performance... "The Second Star to the Right" is my absolute favorite Disney song... Who let this happen???

I think I will forever be scratching my head over what executive decided that this gorgeous melodic song should be given a hip-hop beat, new lyrics, and bad singing. And if I ever find out who was in charge here, you can bet there will be letters written. lol.
