The article said that they hope to film in such a way to release it a year after PC > ala HP 1 & 2.

If you take the article at face value - they could theoretically be filming #3 by late fall.... (principle photography)

The next three films are (probably) going to be back-to-back. This article mentions it, but I also remember reading another article a while back that said they were planning to film Prince Caspian, Voyage of the Dawn Treader, and The Silver Chair all at once and then release them a year apart.

I figured that would be the next one to follow Prince Caspian. I am glad they are filming them a little closer together this time, I can't believe I still have to wait so long for Prince Caspian to hit theaters.

Yes, and this isn't the first time I've heard this. I believe Douglas Gresham (the executive producer and C.S. Lewis' stepson) said that the goal was to film Prince Caspian, Voyage of the Dawn Treader, and The Silver Chair all back-to-back-to-back as a sort of Caspian trilogy. The problem, though, is that if pre-production on Treader starts when Caspian is in post-production, Andrew Adamson won't be able to direct it. I know it's already been said that Adamson won't stick around for the whole series, and I totally understand that, but I was hoping he'd do Dawn Treader and stop there because that's the last book with Lucy and Edmund as the main characters. They're referring to PC, DT, and SC as the Caspian trilogy, but I think it makes more sense to look at LWW, PC, and DT as the Pevensie trilogy, especially since Caspian himself is essentially only a cameo in SC. If Adamson tries to tackle both PC and DT, he's going to kill himself. Chris Columbus tried that with the first two Harry Potters and could barely get himself through it all. WB has been offering all HP directors since the chance to direct the next film following their respective ones, and they've all declined because it's suicidal to work on the post production of one movie the same time as the pre-production of another. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out for Narnia. The main advantage Narnia has over Harry Potter is that each story is its own separate entity loosely connected to previous stories. Because of this, the change in directors (and, inevitable, the change in style) could work in the series' favor.

This sounds like great news and it'd be great to have 1 Narnia movie per year, but it'll be hard to keep up for the crew, producers, actors....
But still, I love the Chronicles of Narnia, so this is really good.

This sounds great, I've always wondered how they'd do it all. Thanks for posting the info NarniaDis. The only problem I have with them filming it all back-to-back is that the quality of them could decline. Oh well, hopefully they'll change directors, like Kelvin said.

This makes sense, since some of the children in PC carry over to Dawn Treader and one child carries over to Silver Chair, you'd need to film these back to back to avoid having the children outgrow their roles, something that's already mentioned in the article with Skandar Keyes (sp?), who played Edmund in LWW. Keyes had a growth spurt after LWW, so he's going to be a bit taller than he was in LWW.

The other three books in the series (Horse and His Boy, Magician's Newphew and Last Battle) don't feature the same characters or if they do, they're much older and could be played by different actors (or even perhaps the same actors if enough time has passed).

Still, if PC, DT and SC do well, I suspect we shall see these other three books in quick succession as well.

Voyage of the Dawn Treader is my favorite book after LW&W. I can't wait to see this movie. I just wish they could be released at a more reasonable rate of years. First one was 2005 right? I wish they could have started Prince Caspian right away and had it released THIS year.

it was supposed to originally, but they had some difficulties with the script. I'm happy they decided to work out whatever script problem they had before they started filming. Dead Man's Chest suffered from that. It's no secret they started filming that without a finished script.

i would hate to have to wait for them more, but i don't mind the wait if their going to make something worthy of the narnia line.... i would hate to see this project go down the toilet just for the sake of releasing sooner

Since there's a thread devoted to each Narnia movie, I figured I could start a thread for the third movie, since there is a release date pegged for the film, as well as pre-production details and the attachment of key cast and crew members.

The rundown on the production:

- Shooting on the third film has been delayed from January 2008 to summer 2008 because of the young actors' schedules and thus delayed the film's initial release date back a year from the original May 1, 2009 date to May 7, 2010.
- Director Michael Apted (Gorillas in the Mist, The World Is Not Enough) is slated to direct the film, with screenwriters Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus returning to co-write the third film. Andrew Adamson, director of the first two films, will step back and take a co-producer role for the third film.
- Actors Ben Barnes (Prince Caspian), Georgie Henley (Lucy Pevensie) and Skandar Keynes (Edmund Pevensie) are slated to reprise their roles
- Crew members new to the Narnia franchise are production designer Jan Roelfs, composer David Arnold, and director of photography Dante Spinotti. Isis Mussenden and WETA Workshop will return to design the costume and work on the visual effects and creature design, respectively.

I do hope Walden Media does all seven books in the series. There's some rumour on another website that they may only do five - this was due to the results of the theatrical release of The Dark is Rising, which in my opinion they botched by even renaming it.

I went to the theater yesterday to see Elizabeth: The Golden Years (which is a good movie by the way) and saw the Prince Caspian poster in the lobby. Looks pretty good.

I'm eager to see how they go with the visual direction for the whole "edge of the world" stuff... and as the ships approaches it. When reading the book, I was always fascinated by the way it was described... almost as if the natural laws started to break down. The unnaturally intense light, clear ocean all the way to the bottom, stillness, etc.

I'm hoping they do all seven, as well... six at the very least (I can see dropping The Horse and His Boy, as it has pretty much nothing to do with the continuity of the overall story). For me, though The Magician's Nephew (the other one I've seen talk of cutting) is an absolute must... that was my favourite book of the series. I loved it's take on the whole Multiverse idea... Charn and the origin of the White Witch was fascinating... overall a great story.

My favourite Narnia book is "The Magician's Nephew", so I hope they'll make a movie out of it eventually, but I'm glad theyre adapting "The Voyage of the Dawn Treader" soon, coz it would be nuts if they made the movie when Georgie Henley (who plays Lucy) is 20.
