Well, there are a couple of slightly different meanings of the word "sad" - and it's too bad, really, having this discussion in a picture thread in the first place, which does indeed make it pretty "sad"...

Seriously, I'm not interested in endless quarreling here - I'm just trying to understand what's going on. Sorry for stating the obvious, but here I'll try to analyse the situation, "figure it out" - possibly "once and for all"...:

"Reyquila" from time to time posts lists or pictures of his large and steadily growing collection of Disney DVDs. At the same time he tends to suggest, or even says quite clearly, that those who haven't got a collection of a similar size have less or no right to an opinion about the material in question, which frequently might make much sense - but he also tends to add that those who are less enthusiastic about his approach are envious. That in particular leads to even more sour reactions - which "Reyquila" in turn chooses to interpret as envy again.

Did I get this right - is that what he does (is that what you do, "Reyquila")? It certainly appears to me that's how it comes off - correct me if I'm wrong.

Doing so, he seems to ignore the fact that some also have other reasons for their less than enthusiastic reactions. Him ignoring that leads to even more sour reactions, that he interprets as envy yet again. Some evil circle...

As for the mentioned "other reasons" for "less than enthusiastic reactions": Yes, "Reyquila" it is a fact - although some "envy" might very well be an element here and there, for all I know - it's probably not unlikely. However, I think it's safe to say that he has (you have) been "overselling" that particular point for a long time. That's one reason. Another (or THE other) is the fact that some (or many, or most?) are not envious. At least I can tell that I'm not (although it IS a great collection, of course). Why am I not envious? 1. I'm interested in a lot of what Disney made, but certainly not everything. 2. If I'd like to have a Disney DVD that I haven't already got - I'll buy it. Yes, I can.

Envy? Certainly not, I have every Disney Classic on DVD, all but 1 of the sequels, all the Pixar films, all but 3 of the Treasures which will be addressed in a few months, and a large collection of other DVD's. I also have a large collection of Disney plushes, figurines and other items, and will be going to Disneyland Paris in a few weeks to get even more.

Not bragging, I've been collecting DVD's for many years. And I've become a big Disney collector since going to Disneyland Paris last year. There's been a lot of hard work and effort put into my collection and I take pride in it.

Certainly not envious.

I just think a certain person just needs to be a lot more considerate when they post because, to be frank, their comments are offensive.

I certainly don't consider anyone a lesser fan because they don't have all the DVD's, or don't have a huge collection - as some seem to.

That's my last word on it. I think it's disgraceful how this thread's been hijacked. I always try and be respectful of other forum users, and I'm not particularly proud of my earlier post. But sometimes, things need to be said.

No one receive more attacks here than me. Definitively, I've created a bigger impression in you than the impression that you have caused in me.

PS. Wait, I can't take credit fo that. I don't think it is me, it is the movies.

Margaret: In other news, a point made by a Norwegian completely flew over a Puerto Rican's head, while a New Jerseyan and many others simply nodded their heads in agreement with the Norwegian. When asked for comment, the Puerto Rican simply said, "I'm buying, I'm buying, you're jealous." Our international correspondent Bob has more on the story. Bob?

Bob: Yes, the past few days have been quite tense as the continued debates of quality versus quantity have dragged on, with no end in sight. Several city officials had to step in and try and settle down the crowd, with little success.

(cut to montage of interviewed people)

Luke: While discussion of these ideas is both interesting and welcome, I don't think it's getting anywhere nor is it serving this thread in a positive fashion.

reyquila: Definitively, I've created a bigger impression in you than the impression that you have caused in me.

darth_deetoo:I just can't believe this attitude - and the blatant hijacking of a thread to stroke one's own ego and put others down. I just think a certain person just needs to be a lot more considerate when they post because, to be frank, their comments are offensive. I certainly don't consider anyone a lesser fan because they don't have all the DVD's, or don't have a huge collection - as some seem to.

reyquila: Get a life!!! And some Disney DVD's!!

(back to Bob and Margaret in newsroom)

Margaret: Sounds pretty harsh out there, Bob.

Bob: It was, Margaret. It was. And earlier today, I sat down with one official who feels it's gotten too far out of hand, and will simply be a cycle of the same arguments over and over again.

(cut to interview...)

Bob: Lars, I understand that you are a collector?

Lars: Yes. I've collected Disney materials for several years now.

Bob: So how do you feel about these current proceedings?

Lars: It seems from time to time that the forum will have to accept and live with the occasional "new kid" asking a ton of questions, for a while - since they usually either go away or "get wiser".

Bob: But that's not the case here, is it?

Lars: No. In a different case, like this one, there's unfortunately very little character development to be seen. I'm not interested in endless quarreling here - I'm just trying to understand what's going on. Sorry for stating the obvious, but here I'll try to analyse the situation, "figure it out" - possibly "once and for all"...

Bob: Good, hopefully you'll be able to really shed some light on this situation.

Lars: One person tends to suggest, or even says quite clearly, that those who haven't got a DVD collection of a similar size to his have less or no right to an opinion about the material in question. Frequently, this might make much sense - but he also tends to add that those who are less enthusiastic about his approach are envious. That in particular leads to even more sour reactions - which the person in question in turn chooses to interpret as envy again.

Bob: But is it really envy? Does he always make that his response?

Lars: Yes, and by doing so, he seems to ignore the fact that some also have other reasons for their less than enthusiastic reactions. Him ignoring that leads to even more sour reactions, that he interprets as envy yet again.

Bob: I take it this argument continues back and forth, then?

Lars: I believe so. It's like some evil circle. I think it's safe to say that he has been "overselling" that particular point - that of envy and that collection size matters - for a long time. That's one reason. Another, or THE other, is the fact that most - if not all - are not envious. At least I can tell that I'm not although it IS a great collection, of course.

Bob: So why aren't you envious? I mean, this guy has a massive collection.

Lars: Why am I not envious? 1. I'm interested in a lot of what Disney made, but certainly not everything. 2. If I'd like to have a Disney DVD that I haven't already got - I'll buy it. Yes, I can.

Bob: And I'm sure most everyone else shares your sentiments.

Lars: Yes. It's just the one same person who doesn't see it.

(back to Bob and Margaret in the newsroom)

Bob: Well, there you have it, Margaret.

Margaret: Quite an interesting report, Bob. Hopefully all issues will be resolved in the near future.

Bob: Well, if you ask me, it'll go on for quite some time.

(the two laugh. Margaret turns towards a camera)

Margaret: Over at our weather desk, Scotty has some interesting predictions for the coming weekend. Scotty?

Scotty: There's going to be some interesting reports for this weekend, Margaret, starting with a severe cold front currently moving southward, from the US to the Central America region. It'll settle nicely in the Caribbean before head off into the Atlantic. Going to Storm Track 6, we can see that temperatures will reach freezing levels in the Caribbean, something not seen in years. It looks like there could possibly be some snowfall, but right now it's too early to tell.

Puts on Mod hat (something I don't like doing to be honest)

I think its best if we all just ignore/disagree/agree with reyquila from now on, and post nothing more in this thread about his collection (if all you can think of are negative things). reyquila is correct, in that he is taking abuse, as well as giving some back. A good few people here are hardly whiter than white, and its not fair to blame all of this on reyquila.

YOU ALL HAVE AN OPTION OF IGNORING HIM if you don't approve with his posts. All we have so far is circular logic, and circular logic only makes people dizzy. Likewise, it would be beneficial if reyquila ignored posts aimed at him.

A lot of people on this forum post their planned DVD purchases, their actual purchases and/or their DVD collections in online databases. I myself post often in the New DVD thread, have a link in my sig pointing to my HD DVD purchases, and even a gamertag picture showing games I own/play on my 360 (although, at the time of posting, you'll notice I've not had time to play on my 360, or watch any of my HD DVD movies on it for a number of days).

People do like to show what they own, and people do. Some ways may be more subtle than others, and some may be considered boastful. But a I personally enjoy reading people's purchasing decisions, tastes and opinons. And I enjoy seeing photos of people's collections - yes, I include reyquila in that (even though I prefer to sneak around people's Disney collections and look for non-Disney purchases!)

I am very busy at the moment, and the last thing I want to do is have to warn people about the posting guidelines of this site - I've got better things to do frankly, when I'm just having a 5 minute break and a quick drink while working.

I hope this will be the last post on the subject.
Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database

Please, not so fast there, 2099net -

I think we've just brought this "debate" forward from a standstill for the first time ever.

I'm sure you're right - because you're the one who comes off as persistently throwing bricks at people. That does make quite an impression.

I don't throw bricks. I stand my position and my opinion. The only problem with me is that I can back my position with the movies and that seems to bother some people. P

Ok. This is getting ridiculous. How about we just lock this thread and create a new one for posting pics and such with promises from EVERYONE not to bring this argument up again. How about it?

OK. I vote for that, but it is even better to let this issue rest. I promise to let it go. Can everybody agree to that? Please do not respond, silence will be the best answer.

Because the same arguments were discussed repeatedly in the original 50-page thread, and that only got locked so it wouldn't be too much to read. Maybe it'd be easier to lock this thread, and start two new ones: "Post a Photo of Your Disney DVD Collection" and "The Reyquila DVD Collection: Last Updated (insert date)". That way everyone has one thread for their pictures, and reyquila will have his own to update whenever he desires, and makes it easier for people to decide to view or not view his collection.

After all, we do have member-specific threads all the time (various "I need advice on such-and-such/Something happened, pray for my family/Hi guys, I have good news about something!", the progressive updates on Bill's awesome feet, and ongoing series threads like Laz's Contemporary Horror, Aaron's Artists Discussion, and ichabod's Live-Action Discussion).
