Not quite that stupid but close.SpringHeelJack wrote:Considering "The Wild" as a classic is stupid. It's like adding "Valient" to the list.
And for the US list I can think of at least one good list.

At least we have the Ultimate Disney standard to go by. As much as I dislike to do so, I do think "Chicken Little" is part of the DAC list. Then, of course, we'll be getting into a gray area if indeed John Lasseter decides to have Disney only do hand-drawn animation, then we need to figure out any upcoming projects, and...bah. Curse them for abandoning the numbering system.
"Ta ta ta taaaa! Look at me... I'm a snowman! I'm gonna go stand on someone's lawn if I don't get something to do around here pretty soon!"
More Disney Animated Classic oddities
I noticed the inclusion of 'The Wild' on the official Disney site, but what struck me as more odd was the omission of 'Hercules'. Doing a movie search, Disney only has it listed as VHS and never available as DVD. Obviously, that is not true. Disney also lists 'The Reluctant Dragon', which is a bit of a stretch to be considered a DAC as well as throws 'Bambi' out of its advertised 5th spot. 'Cars' is actually listed after 'The Wild', but is the only Pixar movie included (yet another oddity). If you go to the printer friendly list it goes in alphabetical order ~ isn't that downright heresy? As for me, I go with the UD list to include 3D 'Chicken Little' as the last available DAC and rent/borrow the other stuff 'Valiant', 'The Wild', et al. I do have the Pixar collection, but consider that a separate entity. Some day I hope Disney realizes why such details are important to fans so that they are no longer marginalized, minimized or altogether removed.

My speculation into why Disney has stopped counting in the U.S. is so that they can make the destinction between classics and everything else as hazy as possible. Ad campaigns for films like "Beauty and the Beast" hyped the film as "the 30th Animated Classic." The "Walt Disney Pictures Presents" bannar already has a legacy attached to it, so by making the destincition as hazy as possible, they can pass films like "The Wild" off as being made by the same team that brought you these wonderful films that are truly classics by every definition. So instead of advertising "The Wild" like they should have (eg: Walt Disney Pictures Presents a C.O.R.E. Animation Studios Film), they pass it off simply as their own giving the true production company as little credit as possible. The average parent and child that "The Wild" appealed to would appear to be another film in the rich Disney legacy, even though it was a WDFA shelved project that they hired someone else to animate.
That being said, I do really enjoy "The Wild." I actually liked it much better than "Madagascar," but it doesn't belong in the list of classics. Not because it isn't good enough of a film, but because it wasn't animated by Disney. They outsourced it.

In my personal collecction i place valiant and the wild in chronlogical theatrical release order in with the classics. I don't consider those two films classics, but it does help Chiken Little to not stick out. I also put the Pixar films in their theatrical release spots in with the classics, and i put the sequels next to all the films with sequels after their originals. I have a feeling that this is how the disney company sees them anyway.
