I don't see why Disney would release SOTS & SDTMH together. SDTMH isn't controversial...Is there even enough bonus material that exists/could be made to have the movie come out in a 2-disc set? I'd love to see both of those on DVD sometime, but I'm not sure if together would be the best way. Although, if they were sold together, I'd buy it and be happy.
I was talking about when controversy is no object. And let's consider who stars in both and that they both have animated scenes. And even SDTMH's Lavender Blue is a good song, too, a bit on a par with SOTS' Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah.

Sounds like the Legacy Collection! ;)

I'm all for it if it means they'll re-release the first few waves for those of us who missed out the first time or don't want to pay $100 a pop for them. :D

According to my pal, that was the original idea...release everything at a sell-through price when the limited edition tin sets were gone.

It would certainly bring those eBay/Amazon sellers' prices down to reality!

But didn't they already put out a re-issue of the early Treasures sans tin?

I'm sure the first wave was available somewhere again in the last few years but without the tins. Don't remember whether they were individual releases or a box set - or whether they were a store exclusive or not.

Thanks for updating me Darth & Mr Toad. This must have been a very short avail.

But I guess that's the case at Costco, BJs & Sam's Club. If you don't buy something when you see it at those places, it's gone when you get back.

You'd think Di$ney would make the Treasures DVDs available at a non-LE sell-through price when the tin versions are gone and all the Waves are done.

They don't get a dime from the Treasures scalped on eBay & Amazon. :o

I think it was said that "Costco" had some 11000 (?) copies of that package - and it was rumoured that they were assembled from returned sets with damaged tins, but I don't know if that's true. Some say it is, others say it isn't...

This may be burried somewhere in this thread but did anyone have a theory on why Disney limited the production on the latest wave to around half previous waves? 65,000 is relatively low compared to most the other releases. I think Your Host Walt Disney will be a great collectors item (until they re-release it on Blu-Ray, who knows when.)

A lot of conflicting info - that seems to be the only "sure thing" right now.

I don't think anyone's ruining the discussion - at least not simply by discussing SotS. To continue the discussion of future/no future of WDT at this point we need a new rumour, a new piece of info from someone who might know. Without it the discussion has run its course. Except one thing: Keep on writing polite letters to Disney and tell them what you think.

It's safe to say that no one at Disney, who has the final word on the Treasures, is reading this thread in order to decide about their future.

Safer still, no one at Disney is hoping to see us begin to attack each other...unless it's Customer Service fed up with our pleadings/questions.

If, on the other hand, what you say is true, a revival of Treasures is the least of our worries. The company will have gone to the Dark Side and all future DVDs will have subliminal messages on them designed to turn us into Stepford Collectors, who whistle "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" and snort Tink's pixiedust all day.

Bring Back The Treasures! :brick:

Song of the South

Since the posts about this thread being off-topic seem to lately outnumber the posts about the future of the Treasures, I've split up this thread, so that the Song of the South-specific posts have been moved to their own thread and merged with the other recently-opened Song of the South thread. That can be viewed here:

http://www.ultimatedisney.com/forum/vie ... hp?t=18598

That said, there is definitely room to talk about Song of the South in this thread, particularly when it has something to do with the future of the Treasures. Which, I would say, it definitely does, seeing how Disney has used the Treasures to release a film like Victory Through Air Power, which probably wouldn't fly on a release of its own.
"Fifteen years from now, when people are talking about 3-D, they will talk about the business before 'Monsters vs. Aliens' and the business after 'Monsters vs. Aliens.' It's the line in the sand." - Greg Foster, IMAX chairman and president

And maybe the two Humphrey shorts will be on Donald's sets, too.

I called BVHV yesterday regarding the Silly Symphony glitch and I also asked about the fate of the Treasures line and expected to get the response that I've seen here that others received from the BVHV reps but I didn't.

The rep placed me on hold and came back telling me that the decision hasn't been made yet but to call back because they EXPECT to have the final answer within 2 weeks.

Not trying to be a smart *ss, but I presume "the decision" refers to the Treasures, not the Silly Symphony glitches.

Correct, the decision about the fate of the Treasures line itself.

Now THAT sounds smart. Maybe the following is what really happened here:

1) January: Top management plans to cancel the Treasures— and since that same top management is the party informing Maltin and Bossert, they are told them as much. Lower management is NOT informed and presumes the series will continue for another year.

2) February: At Ultimatedisney, at Golden Age Cartoons, at Digital Bits, we fans hear Maltin's and Bossert's bad news and demand more Treasures. Disney PR reps ask their immediate supervisors—in LOWER management—for the scoop. Lower management sends out the message we've been hearing... that the series will continue. Of course, higher management hasn't talked to lower management about the intended cancellation, the end result being that we get a mixed message.

3) Today, all parties within Disney are aware of the mixed message and deciding what to do next. Everything is still up in the air and we still have a chance to make a difference.

I can't prove this is really what's happened, but it sure sounds like a realistic possibility.

I suggest we keep e-mailing Dick Cook. And e-mailing John Lasseter (easier said than done... I have no idea of his e-mail address). And we better not get sidetracked into Song of the South again, as interesting as it is to discuss.
