Well, if Eisner can erase Roy's name from the Disney Treasures, I don't doubt they can edit him out of the "Pocahontas" making of... And what about the "Aladdin" DVD? Roy was very important in the process of the making of the film. What if Eisner don't let him be part of the DVD?

Eisner, OUT!!!

Well, Maltin doesn't agree with the JimHill Media report. And Jim's going to do some more checking. Which is probably something he should have done before.

Maltin Quote

Post by matthewgb »

Leonard Maltin at the end of his Jim Hill rebuttal stated,

"That said, I can't predict what will happen from this point forward, given the current situation with Roy and the company."

Could he be refering to the future of the Teasures series?

I'm thinking he's referring to if when the sets do come out (both wave 3 and 4) will they have the Roy Disney name on or not?

While I don't think it's the reason for the delay, Disney could take this opportunity to print new cardboard bands sans the Roy Disney name.

I doubt Disney would stop the Treasures sets. They're making money - more money than expected.

Jim Hill

Post by ghost999 »

Jim posted another good article today about this subject. He got someone to talk about the topic from BVHV.
I posted the following message on his message board:
"Thanks Jim for looking into this topic for all of us. I e-mailed you a few times directly to let you know this whole thing stunk. Now I want to throw more of my two cents into the mix. The story about the supplier not being able to keep up production of the tins may be the "official" story and that is what kept the DVDs off the shelves. BUT, remember these DVD's were planned a long time ago as well as the production run of those DVD's. Everything was going ok and I’m almost 100% positive the tin supplier made all the "required" tins that were ordered months and months ago. BUT, someone decided at the 11th hour to increase the production run on some of the DVDs up 100K. WHY??? Just to have the official excuse??? Well it’s really easy to blame a decision that could look really ugly in the corporate world on some offshore tin can maker. Everybody has to remember somewhere in some dark warehouse next to the Ark of the Covenant sits all of these DVD's boxed and shrink wrapped and with shipping labels ready to go to Amazon.com and Best Buy. Sellers like Amazon must get their orders weeks ahead of time to allow them to re-box them and get all of their orders ready. All of this happened to fast and too weirdly. First everything was ok, then we all heard about the production numbers changing and then 2-3 weeks after that we heard about them being pushed back to May then 2-3 weeks later Roy’s departure (or push out). This story is too complex to just blame on the Tin can supplier. Don’t let this story die people. This could be Eisner’s worst decision that I hope he regrets.

There's one thing that I just thought of that might be worth some snooping around for stories on. There are a lot of racial stereotypes in these cartoons, and some of the worst will come in the WWII era one "on the front lines".

Could it be that ethnic groups are protesting these collections? Similar to the protests that caused the line in the song to be changed in Alladin or the Native American dislike of Pocahontas? It would be interesting to find out of the long lead time might be because they have decided to digitally edit someparts and release tamer versions.

This would be a terrible shame and would ruin the purpose of these collections.

Has anyone heard of any groups upset at the content of these?

I really don't think it would matter if there were, these are all suppose to be uncensored and will probably have warnings before them... also there is such a high demand for them, that i doubt Disney would worry about protester not buying them cause everyone else will!

I haven't heard of any such protests either, I doubt that is it. Its either the short production run issue or the Roy issue. Either or, it really doesn't matter, as long as we can all get our copies in May.

Do you people really think that Eisner, who at the best of times is under total scrutiny would be able to make such a decision without it becoming public knowledge? Do you really think he could justify his actions to the shareholders? Do you really think he would be stupid enough to do this?

Katzenberg was removed from materials relating to his films because he left Disney to become a founding member of a competing studio. Do you really think it would be wise for Disney to "promote" Katzenberg and by extension Dreamworks SKG by including him on their video materials?

Speilberg is still involved with older supplements of his films, because he still owns or has part ownership in the films - they're all Amblin films - not Universal or Warner Bros.

Even if Disney do take the opportunity to remove Roy's name when the sets are eventually released, as a emailer to the Jim Hill Media website wrote, there could be a legal reason for doing so, being as Roy no longer works at the company.
The Jim Hill email message wrote:BUT, someone decided at the 11th hour to increase the production run on some of the DVDs up 100K. WHY???
I'd think that was pretty obvious. The final order figures came through and the production run was way underspecified. There's no conspiracy - just common sense. Look at the sales rankings on Amazon.Com for example - both the Mickey and Donald sets were in the daily best sellers almost every day since they were put up for order! What possible reason could Disney have for releasing limited numbers that would disappoint half the potential buyers?

And if anyone thinks that they should of released the sets anyway (thinking that they would be guarenteed their copies, see my final post on this thread about my lack of the Tex Avery LE boxset, despite ordering before other people who did get theirs sent out).

Jake L. told me he got a call from BVHE and they told him that they are NOT removing Roy's name from the Treasures discs. He was uncertain about future Treasures releases, but they confirmed Roy's sig will be on these sets. So there you have it everyone. :D

I'm confused?

Amazon says Walt Disney's Treasure Wave 3 comes out May 4.

Walt Disney Treasures - The Chronological Donald Volume 1
Walt Disney Treasures - Mickey Mouse in Living Color 2
Walt Disney Treasures - Tomorrowland
Walt Disney Treasures - Walt Disney on the Front Lines

http://www.comingsoon.net/dvd/may04.php

And Disney go says May 18.

When do they really come out? :?

Also When does Walt Disney's Wave 4 come out I hope its in December 2004. :D

Disney Go has not changed their info yet. Buena Vista confirms they will be released on May the 4th, barring any unforseen problems!! The Disney Go. com link has been removed as a link for several weeks now. They are usualy pretty slow on changing those, if ever.

I was reading a buddies copy of Premire magazine, Dec or Jan issue, and they had a review for each of the 4 Treasures seems some people got advance copies of these.
