How is school going?
Hope everyone is doing well, just wondering how school is going for everyone. I myself am swamped beyond believer, I don't think I've done a single thing since being back, I've had so many papers to type and chapters to read that I think my head is spinning lol. Well hopefully I'm alone, I don't want anyone having to go through the same stuff I am haha. Just trying to stay active and seeing how everyone is doing.

I'm only taking 2 classes this semester, which sucks, but since I've been a failure at college to this point (into my 4th semester right now) they made me take less. I'm enjoying only being at school for 2 and a half hours twice a week though. I like my profs too, but I'm in a bind... if I dont get a 2.0, I'm done (going to school on financial aid).

Someone once gave me advice that has stuck with me to this day about how bad studying is sometime and how bad school can suck..It is all about endurance. Who can last the longest. I am going to use nursing school as an example.
I have been bombarded by homework, papers, clinicals, things of that nature for 2 weeks now (we are only 2 weeks into school), and it does suck sometimes. I have friends in easier majors whom go out alot, and it sucks having to sound like a broken record saying "no", "No", "NO" all of the time. But, I want to be a Nurse Anesthetist, and it takes straight A's through nursing (at least I feel it will) to get into the program, and it means alot of sacrafice. I was just wondering if anyone had gone through a similar situation. I keep thinking of being an CRNA (Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist) and it keeps me motivated. Just have to ask if the reward is worth the effort, most of the time it is ...

I've actually dropped out of school for the time being. I'm about 3 years behind due to Home-Schooling being the worst thing ever
But anyways I know what job I want to do, so I'm just going to find out what the prerequisites are for it and get those done. Eventually I plan on getting at least my Grade 10's in other subjects. But for the most part I'm just going to be getting my Science up to a Grade 12 level since it's what I'd need for my future job. So until I can get the info I need, I'm on another Vacation
I'm graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree on the 17th.

Microbiology is awesome! I didn't know there was so much to learn about things so small you can't see and yet they can make you real sick. In my Microbiology lab the door has a caution on it that says "cancer hazard" and "bio hazard." I like going into rooms like that it makes me feel special. It's a good reason too because we do handle infectious disease. For instance, a couple days ago we got to handle E. coli and another bacteria that gives you syphilis. Exciting! We have to wash our hands a lot if you can imagine. Today I actually got to see the E. coli bacteria in a microscope; it's really small but you can see their distinctive rod shape. It's so cool; yeah Microbiology was a great way to go for me.
I still got two years and I can't wait because it's going to be sooooooo sweet quiting Sam's Club. That store sucks but they got good bargains!

Bambifan## is right. Just keep on truckin' and think about what you're really working for in the end. Don't sweat the small stuff like if it's taking you so long to understand how to interpret a freaking graph of squiggly lines that are supposed to represent organic molecules (NMR and IR spectroscopy in case you're wondering). It's important that you get through it and do the best that you can do. Once you're graduated, chances are you're not going to remember most of the little stuff you "learned" in college and you'll either relearn it for your career or look it up when the time comes.
In my opinion, I think the material you are learning in college is only secondary to the college experience. The whole set-up of college is teaching you how to be a more responsible person and how to deal with challenges. It's also about discovering how well you work, what kind of pace you need to set yourself in, and your teamwork skills and making networks of important contacts. A lot of incoming students are shocked at the difference between high school and college. College is where you learn how to deal with this kind of stuff because life is just not a walk in the park.
Anyhow, whenever I'm about to flip out over Organic Chemistry, I just remember that I'm here in college to prepare me for life. My future boss (hopefully) won't care if I couldn't memorize the exact mechanism of an organic chemical reaction. (S)he'll care if I was able to deal with all the work, put forth my best effort, and balanced school with the other crazy parts of college life.

Wow, you're lab just totally blew mine out of the water, lol. In our Food Analysis lab, we used pH meters to measure the buffer capacity of orange juice. For 3 hours. Drop. stir. Measure...for 3 hours...Zoltack wrote:Microbiology is awesome! I didn't know there was so much to learn about things so small you can't see and yet they can make you real sick. Zol - I don't have to take the MCAT, lucky for me haha.
I agree totally, college isn't only about learning subjects, but learning to manage time, money and fun. I personally have 3 tests next week and have not left my house at night for the past week, and probably will not at all next weekend. Others may be able to look at things and understand them, but I have to go at a slow pace to understand things. I have to make notecards and quiz myself over and over to understand. I used to fear that I was missing out on life and was missing fun and friends, but right now school is my life, and what I am driven to. I'll end with a great quote I heard long ago..."With great things in life come equil sacrafices."
Well those who go out and just mess around in school have paid the price, alot have either flunked out or are struggleing to get by. BTW IR and NMR readings are no fun, I remember the good ole days of Org. Chem

Ha speaking of Organic Chemistry I'm in my first semester out of two and I got to tell you I'm not impressed so far. It's pretty easy; most of it for me is review because I have such a huge chemistry background.
Also speaking about 3 exams in one week; that's going to happen to me not next week but the week after. 1 biology test on Monday, 1 organic chemistry test on Wednesday and 1 bio-stats test on Friday. I'm soooooo thrilled. It shouldn't be to bad that is if I start studying now instead of Sunday night next week. That's another thing college teaches you; not to procrastinate even though a lot of people do it.

High school's okay for me. I just started almost all-new classes 2 weeks ago (with the exception of U.S History and Algebra 2). Last semester I got all A's and B's (actually I got a C+ in P.E. for one quarter, and it averaged out to a B), but I don't know how well I'm going to do in my new classes because it's too early to tell. I'll probably get a B- or C+ in my English class, even though 6 out of 7 of the books are around as old as I am (I hate writing, analyzing, and reading); an A in Algebra 2; an A- or B+ in U.S. History, since I got a 98% last quarter and now we're moving on into WWII and more recent events; an A in Psychology, mainly because our tests are taken directly from our notes and I don't have to write a paper for the assigned book (I hate papers!); A in College Test Prep, as long as I study my vocabulary words; an A in Drawing II; and a B+ in P.E. Sorry about typing all of that, but I love to make lists!
I took a practice ACT last week. I got a 27 on the English portion, and the rest I won't mention because I didn't even finish! Hopefully I'll learn how to complete the reading and math sections (without guessing) in my College Test Prep class. The art school I'm applying to next year only requires that I get a 20 in English on the ACT, so I'm all set. I could get a 12 in math and science and they wouldn't care! So relieving. I am taking the College Test Prep course to improve my ACT composite score, but the truth is I don't really need to.

But then you'll experience the sheer torture that is college. Now, I'm in a community college, but someday I'm gonna have to go to a university.PixarFan2006 wrote:I am just glad that this is my final semester of High School. To everyone complaining about high school: Embrace your youth. Once college hits, you won't have teachers to chum around with and steer discussions away from the lesson in class. You'll have teachers who won't bother to remember your names, and only take roll for statistical purposes. Your assignments are either do or don't do, and it's better to have a bad grade than no grade at all. Tests will either be a little worth a lot (3 essays at 33.3 points each) or a lot worth a little (50 questions at 2 points each).
Embrace high school life. Once your first semester of college is over, you'll wish for 8 classes in a row every day instead of 3 classes on Tuesday/Thursday and 3 classes on Monday/Wednesday, hoping that since you scheduled Fridays off you can party when in reality you have to study more.

My School days
I was taken out of school at the age of 16 to be homeschooled because quite a few of the teachers were not understanding that when I pass Gas I don't do that on purpose... I Have Crohn's and I remember doing some paper in Health Class about How I was Diagnosed with Crohn's Disease and the Health Teacher Gave me a D or an F or something because she said I didn't have Crohn's... Well earlier that year there was an inservice all about me for the Teachers at the local High school on Asperger Syndrome which is a High Fucntioning type of Autism and Crohns and that I would be coming.. IT was a Mandatory meeting and there was "documentation" that that same Health Teacher attended that meeting.... I remember My IEP basicly discussed about whether or not I passed gas on purpose. One Teacher even said in an IEP since people complain of me going to the bath room said... "So... What Kind of noises does he make when he goes to the Bathroom" The Superitendent turned as red as a Stop Sign and tried to restrain himself from laughter......... So he went into the other room and I heard this.... "AHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH"
I also remember when I was in the 6th grade I was making a noise through the roof of my mouth because of my Billateral Cleft Lip and Paltate I had and still have holes in the roof of my mouth... I mainly do this squeaking noise when I am nervous and half the time I don't even realize I am making this noise. Anyway the Special Ed Teacher sent me to the office because I couldn't stop making this squeaking noise... So they lock me upstairs in the office and they said I was going to get a 0 for the day... So I Began to think.... Then I remembered that My Mom was coming to get my sister to take her to the orthdontist in Saint Louis MO. So then I figured if I could get down to my mom who was picking my sister up at any moment she could explain why I make these noises and that I wasn't being a brat or defiant.... So I Planned my escape from the room that was between the office and the Vice Principal's Office. There are 4 stairways that lead down and I Took one of them but then one of the secretaries spotted me and Shouted to the Other Secretaries "HE'S ESCAPING!! So Here come 2-3 secretaries and the assitant principal chasing me all around the school and then I saw my Mom pull up to pick up my sister and her teacher walked my sister out to the van said to my Mom hurry up and go and I come out crying my little heart out and the assitant principal SHOUTS " DON'T BELIEVE A WORD HE SAYS!!!!!!!" So anyhow it ended up mom decided to take me with me because she said we all needed a break from all the calamity....
There are tons of stories of my 3-ringed themed circus type School to High School. Those are just 2 that I remember and laugh at thinking what kind of comedy show was that. In fact I have a book I was working on.... But its on an old anceint computer I think a Windows 3.1 and its unlpugged..

I have Monday off because it is a professional development day. I am enjoying my 3-day weekend so far.
I switched one of my classes this week because I didn't like the original class I was put in (video production). I am now in Advanced Graphic Design (a computer class) I am enjoying it so far.
During lunch, a student was messing with me saying I was cutting the line even though I was there before him. It made me really angry.
