Is that a reflection of a child's head on the brownish "tag" in front?
Sure looks like there's a face there.

I really like the design of the robot and when I looked at the image, I didn't even think about the fact that there was recently a CG film about robots because Pixar's looks so different. At least they aren't within a year of eachother like Antz and A Bug's Life were. I can't wait to see the teaser this summer when I go see Ratatouille.

To the wondering Disney executive who might reading this: NO! NO NO!

While I've never been TOO really upset when they "change" an attraction like Pirates or Haunted Mansion, and I certainly can't deny an update to Star Tours would be nice, considering how many planets there are in the Star Wars universe, and how much potential you could do, I couldn't think of a bigger missed opportunity than more "Pixarization".

Despite what some here believe, I actually do like Pixar, but too much is too much, and is a huge reason I go into my rants in the first place.

Oh so what are you saying, Pixar has no creative ideas!?! There box office scores prove that wrong!

Sorry, but I can read between the lines! You're as black as night! And I know this because I can read! *sings* I can R-E-A-DDD, I can R-E-A-DDD, I'm just as good as Madonna!*/sings*

Sorry, couldn't resist playing a game of "Which UD Member Are You?"

Seriously, despite having no official plot yet, there's really almost no similarities so far. Robots was basically a cast of personified machines(almost like what Robin Hood did for animals) while this looks like a slightly stylised of a real robot. Until we get a story synopsis, "Cars" is probably more of a rip-off of "Robots" than this. After all, both are sort of a "alternate reality" as they take place in a world without humans.

Luke said in another post that the personal attacks needed to stop. So, I went no further. However, you continue to insist on being an immature little brat. You need to stop being immature, and making personal attacks! Continue this, and you WILL regret it!

How do you know if he is talking about you? He could be talking about any of us. Afterall, he might know some of us who are on UD and are like that, in real life, and online too.

Just a suggestion.

It would probably be best if you didn't get involved in this. I don't want to drag you into it, but, he is clearly mocking me. It is going to stop, or, he will regret it. I am not going to insult him, I'm just going to wait for Luke, or a moderator, to address the issue.

I think the subtle comedy of Netty's post has been missed and my thoughts are on the same wavelength as his.

I'm sure the point he was trying to make is that when it's Pixar everyone is quick to leap in saying how wondeful they think it is, how original the design is, how cute, how lovely, because it's Pixar and people always leap to Pixar's defense. If this image was released by Dreamworks everyone would be going ape in this thread ranting about the fact that they have ripped off other films and how much Dreamworks suck.

Personally I'm going to reserve judgement as anyone who gets ecstatic over one image this small and generic is quite obviously a few fries short of the full happy meal.

I'm eagerly anticipating Ratatouille, for one reason, to decide whether to give up on Pixar altogether. For every Pixar movie I love, there is one that fills me with anger because of its uninventive plot and generic characterisation. Pixar movies are destined to make big bucks, so I wish Pixar would get brave and make something different rather than producing endless variations on the same story. If Ratatouille is another buddy movie with two mismatched characters I'm going to be severely pissed!

as much as i love pixar ( and let me tell you i LOVE pixar) but somehow the character and the concept of the film don't catch my interest, i really hope i'm just jumping into a bad conclussion, and its also the first pixar film not to have the complete first on the idea ( 20th CF's robots) so it might really be judge much more harshly than was cars. i really hope this turns into a hit because there hasn't been a powerful movie as Finding Nemo or Toy Story. Now the pixar film i'm waiting for is Toy Story 3

I don't know if I'd consider either of those Pixar's "most powerful" films to date. I'd probably reserve that for The Incredibles and Monsters, Inc., personally.

Y'know, when I look at this little robot I see two different things.

The first is a sad little robot (because of the eyes) and he's got two arms/hands, which are those silvery things on the side of his body. And either that brown-ish tan tag is something he's holding or part of his body is what I can't figure out.

BUT, I also see those silvery things as teeth! Like part of a big mouth and it's in the shape of a smile and that brown-ish tan tag thing is just covering the mouth so we can't see it all.

Does anyone else see it as a mouth or am I just going crazy?

Oh and for the record, I consider Finding Nemo to be the weakest of the Pixar films, but it's still great though.
But the thing that makes Woody special, is he'll never give up on you... ever. He'll be there for you, no matter what.

No, don't get me wrong ichabod, I get what both you and Netty are saying, and I agree: Had this been a Dreamworks film, generally nobody would care about the image. I was just bringing humor from another very loosely connected topic, and pointing out while I agree, I'm still very interested on how it'll turn out, not just simply because of the image, but just finding out it's about robots! Characters that have been my favorites since childhood. So, I'm not being a "Pixar is divine" claimer, I'm just saying I'm very interested in this film, despite the very little concept given.

Now that that's been dusted up and out of the way with, my response to the bumped post.

Well, if we were to play by those often used rules, the upcoming "Ratatouille" is copying Aardman's Flushed Away. And, like I said earlier, while "Cars" might be specifically about cars, it's concept(a world of only machines) had already been used(Robots).

Erm, I don't really care for "Robots", but saying that "Cars" is a better movie is a pretty close call. "Cars", IMO, is easily the weakest movie Pixar has made.
