It's safe to assume either Maltin was given a pink slip, or the protests successfully brought him -and- the Treasures back.MikeyMouse wrote:...why the man who has been in charge of the project for the last 6 years is under the impression they were canceled?

I trust you have no info on Leonard Maltin's status, otherwise you would have shed some light on LM's future with the Collection.BVHE-Rep wrote:We are part of the Walt Disney Consumer Relations Department and have verified that the next wave of the Treasures is in development. We will keep you up to speed on any future updates regarding this or any other BVHE topic.

Trouble is, if you look earlier in this thread, no less an authority than Dave Bossert—Disney restoration head—stated that the series would not go on.BVHE-Rep wrote:We are part of the Walt Disney Consumer Relations Department and have verified that the next wave of the Treasures is in development.
Could you please check with him directly? Our basic concern is that the series really has been cancelled, but word simply hasn't yet filtered down to Consumer Relations' usual go-to people for such information. No offense intended, of course, as corporate miscommunications are a fact of life and happen everywhere.

I hope Leonard is still with the series and that it continues indefinitely.
Whomever is in charge going forward will have to do a better job selecting, remastering or restoring the original prints and masters. "Backstage Party" looked unnecessarily faded. There is no excuse for bad masters...
Treasures I'd like to see:
Song of the South (plus The Story of Joel Chandler Harris, trailer, TV spots, Br'er character commercials, behind-the-scenes, etc.)
Ludwig VonDrake (all TV episodes in multiple volumes)
Ranger Woodlore and Humphrey Bear (all related shorts, featurettes and TV hours)
Your Host Walt Disney Volume 2 (Disneyland Goes to the World's Fair, A Rag a Bone a Box of Junk, Title Makers, etc.)
Disneyland USA Volume 2 (Disneyland Showtime!, Golden Horseshoe Revue, From the Pirates of the Carribbean to the World of Tomorrow, Disneyland Around the Seasons, Disneyland USA etc.)
Your Host The Magic Mirror (One Hour in Wonderland, The Walt Disney Christmas Show, Magic and Music, Our Unsung Villains, Disney's Greatest Villains, etc.)
Annette (MMC serial, plus Annette "music videos" & textless title sequences (Monkey's Uncle, Merlin Jones, etc.) and Annette Disney Family Album etc.)
Your Host Jiminy Cricket (all TV hours hosted by Jiminy, plus character commercials, shorts, specials, Encyclopedia/I'm No Fool shorts, etc.)
A Walt Disney Christmas (Mickey's Good Deed, Santa's Workshop, Once Upon a Wintertime, From all of Us to All of You, etc, etc.)
A Walt Disney Halloween (The Legend of Sleepy Hollow (with The Story of Washington Irving), Trick or Treat, Lonesome Ghosts, Mad Doctor, Pluto's Judgment Day, The Worm Turns, Donald and the Gorilla, The Haunted House, etc.)
Disney Family Album (Complete Disney Channel Series of interviews)
More Mickey Mouse Club - The Mouseketeer Reunion

Please don't blame Mr. Maltin for quality control decisions that were not his.merlinjones wrote:I hope Leonard is still with the series and that it continues indefinitely... These three volumes you suggest would mandate a phenomenal amount of double-dipping, in the first case from the as-yet-unproduced Donald V4. I love the animated shorts more than anything else from Disney, but not enough to want to see them one more time simply reshuffled in this way.Treasures I'd like to see:
• Ranger Woodlore and Humphrey Bear (all related shorts, featurettes and TV hours) [...]
• A Walt Disney Christmas (Mickey's Good Deed, Santa's Workshop, Once Upon a Wintertime, From all of Us to All of You, etc, etc.) [...]
• A Walt Disney Halloween (The Legend of Sleepy Hollow (with The Story of Washington Irving), Trick or Treat, Lonesome Ghosts, Mad Doctor, Pluto's Judgment Day, The Worm Turns, Donald and the Gorilla, The Haunted House, etc.)
Far better to see some of your other suggestions, which I quite liked.

Aren't we funny? we talk about the closure of a series with a sense of curiosity and emotion, then we talk about what Disney should do, and what we wanted to see, now that the future looks a little brighter, we are placing orders for future wants. I still will be a happy camper if they finish Donald. (and the rarities, and the good neighbour and educational shorts, and SotS, and people and places, and Von Drake, and Disneyland, and Mickey Mouse club, and . . .)
This does make it more interesting, it will be fun to see what happens.

I'm puzzled why so many studios are currently running "replacement discs" programs. Uncensored Tom & Jerry's replacing the PC releases of Volumes 1 and 2...and now comes word "More Silly Symphonies" needs to be replaced for 'found footage,' 'wrong masters' and 'missing titles.'UrsushH.Bear wrote:This does make it more interesting, it will be fun to see what happens.

It's not like these things are being cranked out one a month!

(Unfortunately!)

I just called Disney and the girl outright DENIED there was a replacement program on More Silly Symphonies. She asked me where I heard it and I read her the quote right off the main page. Then she said it was fan gossip and brushed me off. She also said that unless I can name the other two shorts that she couldn’t take my name for future reference. I also mentioned the True Life Adventures again earlier and she said there was no problems with them and that Ultimate Disney is causing them a lot of trouble and to not be surprised if it disappears from the web someday soon. Why is it I only get these nasty customer service reps? I was polite and articulate. Is there a better time to call than others? Oh, and I highly doubt Disney will shut this site down. I think I just got an angry rep…AGAIN….

Oh, I know that wasn't Leonard's fault - - but it is still inexcusable. Same with the edited and other poor quality masters on other volumes. This company must learn to take care of its entire historic film library. Most of the TV episodes have been left alone to rot...
Some other Treasures I'd like to see:
Chip & Dale (all shorts plus the TV hours)
Dr. Syn Alias the Scarecrow/Scarecrow of Romney Marsh (Complete episodes and feature version plus McGoohan interview)
Rarities 2 (the rest of the animated stand-alones and featurettes)
Best of Disneyland/Wonderful World of Color Volumes (everything else with original animation: Plausible Impossible, Great Cat Family, Tough to be a Bird, etc.)
Widescreen Shorts (including improved masters from those found in Rarities)
Winnie-the-Pooh (all of the original featurettes, plus the TV/Feature footage, Sears commercials, etc.)
Commercial Disney (all the animated commercials- theatricals, tv ads, etc, the Disneyland and WDW animated attraction films and pre-shows)
The Trailers
- - -and of course the remaining Complete Donald shorts volumes, including all of his TV hours with original footage

Woah there, Uncle Ed! If you read the front page properly it says that we'll be informed how the replacement program works around March time once they've figured it out. Of course the lady on the phone hasn't heard of it yet because it doesn't yet exist!! PLEASE hold off on bugging them at all about it yet, as it'll only confuse the message about Leonard and saving the treasures that still has to be ironed out!UncleEd wrote:I just called Disney and the girl outright DENIED there was a replacement program on More Silly Symphonies. We've got to be darn careful we don't annoy the heck out of them based on EVERY sniff of info on the web or we'll send them crazy, and they'll stop listening to the important stuff!! Let's just make sure OUR facts are straight before we call and make sure the treasures are completely safe before the next battle begins(!)

(Then again, the lack of problems with theTrue-Life Adventures comment by her is flat-out incorrect, and is another issue entirely - it does prove that there is a communication breakdown there, for sure. How frustrating!)
