I'd be happy with one of these as I wait for the DVD seasons! But of course, please give us Donald!!!
That'd take some time, what with three years of daily hourlong episodes, two years of half-hour episodes, and the DVD's capacity of only holding four hours! Would take 25 DVDs just to get the first hundred episodes released!

Disney Treasures will continue

Post by mvealf »

I don't know if this has been discussed yet, but here is a source that says a couple of more waves are being planned.

Hello Mr. Cook-

I am a life time Disney fan and have loved for the last 6 years the Walt Disney Treasures collections on DVD. My favorite characters are Goofy and Donald Duck. The complete Goofy collection is one of my most dear possesions. I have been eagerly anticipating a completiong to my already started Donald Duck collection. I have read this afternoon that word has come down from on high, that the Treasures collections will be discontinued without completing the Donald Duck shorts. Please say this isn't so. You can look on any Disney internet forum and read the same type of dissatisfaction amongst the loyal fans. If anything, I want my voice heard and my plea to be on record... PLEASE FINISH THE DONALD DUCK COLLECTION BEFORE TERMINATING THIS SERIES. I hope I am one of many who took the time to write you and plead for a complete Donald Duck collection.

Thank you for your time

- Raph Branca

All right, that message is one more step in the right direction - time to relax now? 8)

I'm still a bit cautiously optimistic, but this sounds like great news. Either the whole thing was a miscommunication from the start, or the immediate (and rather strong, IMO) backlash from the internet scared Disney back into line.

This is great news (although the site the email pointed to doesn't have any indication of items "in development" yet), but I will temper my elation until I hear more definitive news from those closely involved (Leonard Maltin). Where's Bill Cotter when you need him?

Hardly any reason why this should be any less true than the message/rumours about the cancellation in the first place?

Well if an earlier post hadn't referenced a personal email from Leonard Maltin himself indicating his understanding that the line was being deep-sixed, I'd probably be less skeptical...as it stands now, though, I don't know WHAT to believe, so I choose to believe none of it, although I hope the latest wave (pun intended) of rumors to be true.

When I called Disney Home Video today to inquire about the "Prowlers of the Everglade" color issue, the very polite support rep took the time to say she saw on file that I had called before, requesting continuation of the Treasures series, and she told me there and then that she had been given information that the Treasures WILL continue, and that we should check the Treasures home page for further information down the road.

I'm starting to feel really good about this .... all we need now is Leonard Maltin!!

It should be noted that the Disney customer service people, who are not actually Disney employees, have been known to be much better at taking information than giving it. That said, I can think of one way that everyone could be correct, but rather than giving out potentially wrong information prematurely, I'll wait and see if this mystery can be cleared up on its own in the next few days.

This mystery might make sense if the Treasures continue, but Maltin (bless his heart) has taken a step back. Also, It is possible that the production of these little beauties is closer to a close than the releasing of these. At any rate, I think there is a logical explanation for all stories. Where's Colombo when you need him
