Are these fake

Post by New Collector »

As a very new Disney DVD collector, I have managed to get over 20 region 2 DVD's in the last couple of week, mostly from E Bay. Mostly bargains.

As my collection was growing i noticed that all the DVD's lined up on the shelf look very similar, Disney DVD at the bottom, widescreen at the top, the U certificate logo's all lined up.

This was untill i purchased Fantasia and Fantasia 2000, both walt disney classics, these are slightly different.

All my others came in blue disney cases, these two came in plain black cases, the U certificate logo on the spine is higher than on all my others and although they both cary the Disney hologram on the back, the layout of the information is also different to all my others.

Hope this makes sense to somebody out there, are these re issues maybe?

Having nearly fallen for a couple of fakes on other auction sites, i just want to make sure these are original. :)

When you say Region 2 do you mean UK, other European countries or Japan? I guess from the description you mean UK as you mention the BBFC certificate.

Personally I've never seen the single disc Fantasia movies in the shops over here, I've only ever seen the collection digipak. I don't know if this means the single discs had a lower print-run or not, but it could explain some of the differences.

If the hologram is on, I would say it's unlikely to be a fake. Check to see if the name of the film is actually stamped into the inner ring of the DVD.

They are not fakes.
The earlier releases had black cases and a little different cover design.
My Fantasia UK 3-disc set came in two regular black DVD cases inside a cardboard slipcase, not in a digipak.

That's odd, becuase I swear it was a digipak, just like the 3 disc Toy Story set (released on the same day I think) was.

Perhaps I've just got confused if the set thinner than the R1 set, as it only contains 2 cases rather than three.

That said I've never seeked it out since being as the R2 version is so poor compared to the US set (and the same with the Toy Story set).

Thanks for the reply's, yes i did mean UK versions, and yes the name of the film is etched onto the disc, so i guess they are real.

Amazon do have the 2 Fantasia films for sale seperately, http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASI ... 68-8074807

Again thanks for the help, Im off to trawl e bay for some more DVD's, this collecting thing has really got a grip on me. :D

Hahaha....Couldn't stop laughing, mainly because I was thinking the same thing myself.

yes, welcome New Collector. One question though - what will you call yourself after you've been collecting and with us here (hopefully) on the forum for a while?

See, this is why the New Kids on the Block never lasted...

Loomis never thoght of that one, i will have to be 'The collector formally known as new collector'

While I'm here can anyone give me any hints or tips of where to find the more obscure Disney DVD's, ie 101 Dalmatians, Lady & the tramp, lion king 2 etc, are there any dedicated UK sites for collectors?

Thanks in advance. :donald:
