Great news if it's true. I wonder if this was all to stir up interest and sales? Ha. Or, as has been said before, they might only intend to release a couple more waves that were already planned, perhaps just to "tie up loose ends." Whatever, as long as we do get the two Donald sets, and hopefully a set with the other classic shorts, like all the educational stuff (mainly, Scrooge McDuck and Money and the Jiminy Cricket stuff). It would be so nice if they included an original version of Small One on such a set too. And, still will be hoping for the rest of Swamp Fox until I know for sure that the Treasures series is closed.

I hope that statement is true. It's got to be if it came from BVHE. All I'm really after is the remaining Donald sets. As far as I'm concerned, the Rarities set is complete; Casey and Susie are not enough to justify a complete second Rarities set.

Oh, come on, "The Casey and Susie Treasure" would be something, don't you think?

Well, seriously, it would be too bad not to have them included somewhere. Although it might not be that essential, there is still a lot of (probably worthwhile) animated shorts that could justify inclusion in a "Rarities" (or whatever) set.

But if there is not going to be such a thing, I'd suggest that Susie and Casey simply be included as bonus materials in the final DD volumes.

Casey and Susie have already been made available as bonus features on DVD but I agree there still are more rarities that need to be seen (especially Magic Highway U.S.A., I really want to see that one).

If you look earlier in this thread (I THINK it is in this thread, anyway), you'll see that we went over before how there are PLENTY of other classic shorts to fill up a second rarities tin.

The fact that they can be found "somewhere" is better than nothing, of course, but having all of the classic shorts in the WDT line is what we seem to have within reach here.

Yeah - we've said it before and we'll say it again! 8)

Yeah, I thought about that after I wrote it. Looking at it, until we have furtehr news from Disney itself in terms of the next wave, Mr. Maltin's comments are about as official as we may get.

Take care,

Agreed completely.
It would be very easy for a company functionary—not just at Disney, but anywhere—to issue a statement that "all is well" to stave off public backlash, when he/she doesn't really know the true state of affairs.
I'll wait for word from Mr. Maltin himself... and I'll keep encouraging others to write to Dick Cook, as per goldenagecartoons.com's ongoing effort!

I downloaded Magic Highway from Mousebits.com and the announcer at the beginning says, "This week from the Wonderful World of Tomorrow..." and later it talks about how the highway of the future should look. I think it should've been included on the Tomorrowland DVD.

Wow what great news!

Also on the subjects of a second rarities set - I think they could easily do a second set with some Laugh-O-Grams, Alice Comedies and the remaining unreleased classic shorts (maybe some Oswald too but seeing as he'll be getting his own Legacy DVD this year they probably wouldn't include him).

Plus I feel an educational set would be a perfect addition - let's hope someone at Disney is listening and taking notes!

Why can’t the educational shorts be incorporated into the remaining rarities? Surely they could all fit onto one DVD. As for Ludwig von Drake, His TV shows deserve their own set, hoping they could all fit. By the way, has the first episode of Wonderful World of Color that introduced him ever appeared on DVD? I swear I’ve watched it on a DVD a few years ago but I can’t find it listed on any I own.

To backup 2099net's point, humphreybear, your points are somewhat valid, but the Treasures were only around for 5 years! That's not even half a generation! I just don't understand the mentality of their basing this decision on what THEY want to sell us ... how about what WE want to buy??
Wait, I'm sorry. You all thought that I was posting to explain why they would discontinue or that I thought they might. That's not what I was trying to say. I was trying to say that if they did decide to discontinue them I don't think they would bother filling in the gap with the remaining donald duck shorts. I was trying to say that they change lines all the time without completing them, not that there was a specific reason to stop the treasures series. Just that I wouldn't be surprised if they did, and if they didn't complete the donald shorts.

Someone posted that it didn't explain why they would cancel the treasures, and I snipped that it was because someone decided they didn't like the packaging. I was being a smart elick to say that I don't know why they would cancel, but they could cancel for any reason.

Maybe it could be included on either of the Donald sets left to come.

The I'm No Fools, You and Your.... are very releasable. Some like explaining how to use a punch card to operate a computer - not so much. And of course don't forget in your letters to Dick Cook to demand the Story of Menstration on DVD.

Donald in Mathmagicland and Scrooge McDuck and Money are not considered educational shorts as they were released first theatrically.

There are four other classifications of non theatrical shorts - shorts released for the armed forces which we saw some of in a montage on the Armed Forces of which there are 75, shorts produced for the National Film Board of Canada which have plenty of entertainment value - of which there were five(I believe some are on the On the Front Lines DVD and four produces for the theme parks.
Disneyland Trips - 07/77, 07/80, 07/83, 05/92, 05/96, 05/97, 06/00, 11/00, 02/02, 06/02, 11/02, 04/06, 01/07, 07/07, 11/07,11/08, 07/09

Disneyworld Trips - 01/05

Disney Cruise - 01/05

Six Flags DK - 03/09, 05/09. 06/09, 07/09

All right - depending on the running-time of each title, of course, but I'd say it's hardly obvious that they'd all fit onto one DVD (or two-disc set) - including war-time material (that could be seen as educational, I guess) only proves that there's "more than plenty" material in storage.

Well, all I care about is getting Scrooge McDuck and Money, the I'm No Fool/Human Animal stuff, Winnie the Pooh Discovers the Seasons (that might be one of the Canada ones), the What Should I Do series, and Harold and His Amazing Green Plants. However, some of the others on that list sound very interesting, and I'm always up for a good menstration cartoon.

I could easily see them including Scrooge McDuck and Pooh onto a set that was mostly what was on that list, and I'd buy it even if they weren't included. I'm just that curious to see some of that stuff, and I haven't missed a Treasures set yet.

I'd LOVE some Ludwig Von Drake sets for sure, but I think it'd definitely call for more than one. And, I'd hope at least one of those sets would include the Moby Duck episode.

While I'd very much prefer to get the original Mickey Mouse Club series as season collections on DVD, I'm open to the possibility of a Treasure Volume featuring the "Annette," or "Corky and the White Shadow" serials -- all in the vein of "Spin and Marty" and "The Hardy Boys."

I'd be happy with one of these as I wait for the DVD seasons! But of course, please give us Donald!!!
