I've gotta wonder...if the Treasures are alive (according to TDB, who I consider one of, if not the best DVD news sites out there) why was Leonard Maltin told that they were finished with the series?

Maybe Roy wants to take over where Leonard left off? Although that defeats the purpose of him spawning his own DVD collection. Maybe there have been disputes between Disney and Leonard Maltin and they will take over where he left off and continue the line without him? I don't know. I'm just trying to speculate why Mr. Maltin would be told there will be no more when Disney is claiming that they haven't canceled the series. Or maybe they did want to cancell it, but due to our letters they have changed their minds? It's all so confusing!

I think this thread needs to be changed to - Update: Never mind!

This is very exciting news. And I'm glad too. I was really worried, for some reason, that some of the other series, which I liked, weren't going to be finished. At least there is 1 more wave. 2 or 3 more if we are lucky!! :D

As much as I would like to jump up and down over this news, I think I am going to be a little optimistically cautious.

The bright side is that there had never been an official press release saying that the range had been officially cancelled. Perhaps goofystitch is right and that Mr. Maltin will not be apart of the series anymore which would be unfortunate.

Here is hoping for the best!

Take care,
Greg

Interesting. I recently interviewed Dave Bossert, which will be going up in a few days, and he confirmed that the Treasures were finished. As someone who is the head of Disney's Restoration Team, I think he'd know, so I'm not sure who The Digital Bits got their information from.

Hmm...well, we have quite a predicament now.

Two sources from the horse's mouth say the Treasures are over.

One source who's often very reliable says the Treasures still have a couple more waves coming.

Could it be possible that there's a growing breach between our universe and another, and TDB got their news from someone in that universe where the Treasures still are going on? Hmm, maybe we'll see Pete Tyler and Mrs. Moore and Jake pop in for a visit!

Well, there's an intriguing development. Maybe TDB are starting a rumour in the hope it spontaneously comes true. I've seen that happen before. In fact, I've done it before...

When they say "in time for the holidays", that means "near Christmas" in normal-speak, doesn't it?

Not really Bill Hunt's style to start rumours. He is well connected within the industry and is almost always correct.

In fact, I imagine no one here is wrong, at least that is my hope. They were probably cancelled and may well be back on. With the likes of Jerry Beck, John Canemaker and Bill Hunt among others enlisted the campaign to reinstate them may well have worked.

Has anyone considered that Disney may have planned ahead, know what final Treasures they will release and have already filmed Leonard Maltin's introductions etc. From his point of view the Treasures may have finished as he has no more work left to do. But from ours, Disney may have everything in the can to be released for the next couple of years or so.
What do you think?

This has crossed my mind a few times as well, though you'd think some of the future titles would have leaked out (or been let out) by now.

You would have thought Leonard Maltin would have realised in his response to us that we were talking about the most recent wave being the last. In fact, in the e-mail I sent him, I specifically mentioned the last 2 volumes of Donald remaining unreleased.

I SO hope it's true that they won't be finished just yet! I'd like to see the line go on for another ten years or more, but if they'll just give it another year or two and finish the classic shorts, I'll be very happy about it. The WDT line is already the very best thing Disney has done with their old animated shorts.

More Treasures?

Post by Tex in Fla »

Has anyone else seen what The Digital Bits is posting? They are reporting that two more waves of Treasures are planned with the next one coming out in time for the holidays this year.

LONG LIVE THE WALT DISNEY TREAUSRES!! THEY WILL CONTINUE!!!

Post by disneyboy20022 »

Well why do I say this... Well.... read the following quoted from the digitalbits.com editor Bill Hunt:
I've got GREAT news for you Disney fans. I've just confirmed this morning with Buena Vista Home Entertainment that their much loved Walt Disney Treasures line of DVDs has NOT been cancelled. In fact, I'm told that at least a couple more waves of releases in the line are planned, with the next due in time for the holidays this year. We'll post additional details as they become available, but rest assured this news comes straight from the studio and it's the real deal. So there you go, folks!
So Let's hope this is true...

Any Thoughts

Also I realize that this was posted at a differ thread but I just thought I would post the official word of it here so until the author updates their thread with this latest update!!

Why post something we already know about? What a pointless reaosn to start a thread.

And official word? Whose official word? If Leonard Maltin and Disney's restoration team are saying the Treasures have been chopped, surely they are more likely to know what's going on that theDigitalBits.

Until wave 7 are up for preorder I don't think we should take any speculation seriously.

Sorry I didn't mean to offend anyone :( ... I just thought it could use its own speculation thread about this latest update... Also I didn't realize How many people knew of this before I posted so I should have looked besides at the last 2 messages of the thread where this information was already shared...

Again I am Sorry..... so if a mod feels they need to lock this thread or delete go right on ahead.... Again sorry I offended you and anyone else :(

No need to apologize. This is a big issue and it's silly to think we can limit it to one thread. That said, I will merge this with the other one with a shadow so that people seeing this headline and not staying on top of the long thread can get the scoop.

I'm hoping my interview with Dave Bossert can shed some somewhat good news on the subject, even if it does not coincide with what TDB is reporting and what most of us wish was true.

An official press release to announce it's cancelling would be stranger then stopping/resuming the series..

Yeah, no studio would ever publicly announce the discontinuation of a line. It'd be like promoting either A) a lack of success or B) a "screw you" to fans who supported them.

TV series that have a long time go by in between season DVD releases -- some may never have subsequent seasons released, but even those that would appear to have been given up on sometimes do continue to arrive. There's a "never say never" mentality in the home video industry that carries over essentially to any thing ever produced. Obviously, new movies will come to DVD a few months after theatrical release. But will they come back to DVD in a new version? Maybe, maybe not. No one even knows how long DVD will be in vogue for - who's to say if an obviously somewhat successful line will resurface or not, a profitable but not blockbuster TV series will get future releases, a movie with rights in question will ever be cleared, and so on.

The only way I see the Treasures having an officially-announced end would be if Disney was somehow to run out of material to release. And even then the same material would be repackaged in some way.
