Sorry Slave2moonlight, what do you mean "original versions" on the same disc? Is it the restored version and the "original version"? Both on the same disc?

I mean the latest releases, as I understand it, have the Special Editions of the films (you know, new scenes, effects, CGI, etc...) AND the pre-special edition versions. Don't know what the restoration situation is on those though. As far as I know, the Star Wars classic trilogy has been released 3 times here in the U.S. so far. I got the first release in the widescreen boxed set. The second release was just the same boxed set without the extras disc, if I'm not mistaken. But they recently released the films again with the non-Special Edition versions as a bonus (probably on the flipside), so I want to get those to see them as I did as a kid, though I have nothing against the Special Edition versions. I'm not sure if this latest release is available in a boxed set or not, but, actually, I think I saw them boxed in a tin on a holiday visit to Best Buy.

They'e not flippers. They're 2-Disc sets for every movie with the 2004 SE on one disc and the original versions from '77, '80 and '83 on the second disc.

The pre-special edition versions were taken from the 1993 laserdisc master, so it's unrestored (compared to our standards today) and non-anamorphic.

However, I wonder now if that means the first discs are going to be the exact ones I already have...

They are. Think of them as decorative coasters.

How can George Lucas know exactly how the saga will be by 2007? I heard he plans on doing three sequels to the original trilogy! Unless he's doing the saga so far...which I think should wait until every film he wants to make comes out.

There were initially plans to do another trilogy back in the 80's/mid-90's, but by the time "The Phantom Menace" came out, he said he plans to just do the prequel trilogy and call it quits. Which is probably all for the best, given both the extensive books written about events after "Return of the Jedi" and the questionable quality of the prequel trilogy.

Sure thing Being a huge Star Wars geek, I hate the anticipation as much as anyone. Just the big DVD release to look forward to now...
