Hi!! Welcome to the forum :D

Well, the limited edition of the little mermaid is currently OOP, so it's going to be really expensive if you wanted that one. But there will be a 2-disk platinum edition, my guess would be in October 2006. So if you can wait that long, you can get a platinum edition. If not, you can try to find on on ebay or the marketplace, but be careful of bootleg copies, they are all over the place. If the price seems too good to be true, it probably is!

Welcome to the forum!

Little Mermaid was originally scheduled to be released as a 2 disc platinum set in Fall of 2008; however they have changed the release schedule dates of the platinums. Where we were getting one a year, now Disney is changing it to two releases a year. The new release date which is still somewhat up in the air and it still guesswork, but with plenty of us saying "in our humble, but accurate, opinion," the new release date is for October 2005.

Hope this helps.

i really dont know what the next two platinum series are but i think they are Aladdin and either Bambi or Cinderella. the platinums that are not out yet are:
Aladdin
Bambi
Cinderella
The Little Mermaid
The Jungle Book
Lady and the Tramp
101 Dalmatians
Fantasia
Pinocchio
Peter Pan
Sleeping Beauty (though it has been released as a 2-disc set)

The next platinum release is Aladdin for Oct 04, Cinderella (March 05), Little Mermaid (oct 05), Bambi (march 06), Jungle Book (Oct 06), Lady and the Tramp (March 07), 101 Dalmatians (Oct 07). There are more scheduled but these were the original 10.

i dont really like sleeping beauty so i really dont like the DVD at all. Disney is going crazy thinking they can make 2-disc special editions for every single animated movie.

No, they are not... at all!!! :)
And "Sleeping Beauty" is great, so is the DVD... but that is just my opinion!

Oh, Thiago, the "Little Mermaid" DVD was released in the widescreen letterbox format all over the world... No anamophic enhancement. Certainly they are saving it to the Platinum Edition!

I wonder if The Little Mermaid Platium Edition DVD will have a new song included just like Beauty and the beast and The Lion King. :D

Will it be re-relased in the IMAX in 2005? :o

Really? I could have sworn that I read somewhere that it would be Bambi March of 2005 and Cinderella October 2005 since under the old plan bambi was supposed to have followed Aladdin in October 2005 :? I could be wrong though

i dont believe that Disney will rerelease The Little Mermaid onto IMAX theaters. here are a couple of reasons:
1. not many people will go see an old Disney movie at IMAX since they want to see new movies at IMAX. the failure of treasure planet at IMAX theaters in one example.
2. when the little mermaid was rereleased in 1997, it didnt do very well in the box office. the fox movie anastacia did better than the little mermaid that year.

somehow i think it would be hard to see every Disney animated movie as a 2-disc DVD set since there are many movies that were not popular and there werent many special features for the one-disc DVD set. could u imagine The Black Cauldron being a 2-disc set though it wasnt popular when it was released.

i don´t have this disc here, but joe carioca told me that our version is letterbox 1.66:1 (the diference between letterbox and widescreen is: widescreen is formated for widescreen tvs, and letterbox is the movie in widescreen formated for the normal tvs.)
