Balto on DVD

Post by steetboris »

Hello,

I stumbled upon this place, and thought it could be interesting to share this with other animation fans.

I am the webmaster of the most popular Balto site on the web. You may not know what Balto is, unfortunately (sue Universal for this). To summarize, it's one of the most wonderful animated film ever made, and at the same time, one of the most overlooked...for many reasons, which would be too long to explain.
Anyway, we, Balto fans, have decided to make a petition to get a Special Edition DVD for Balto. Many animated films get special editions DVDs nowadays (even The Secret of NIMH will get one soon!), but Balto only has a dreadful dvd with pan & scan and no worthly extras...

If you want to sign the petition, check this page :

Finally, if you have questions or want to share things about Balto, don't hesitate to ask me :)

Welcome to UD! I hope you'll stick around to discuss other animation besides Balto :D !

I think pretty much everyone on UD (we all are animation-mongers of sorts) knows what Balto is. I do, and I agree, it is quite good. If I remember right, I thought the animation was great.
I'll sign your petition! I don't have this film yet, so a SE would be welcome!
:pan: Love It.

Hey Welcome to UD!!!

Actually, believe it or not, I used to lurk around your website and forum for a while, so I actually know about the petition. I know as much about Balto as an animation fan would hope...especially being that it's my absolute favorite NON-Disney animated film of all time (and it actually does rank up there with my top 10 favorite DAC's). I believe I'm actually one of the few here who have the current Balto DVD and love it to death. Yes, I agree with you whole-heartidly about a new SE. It's sort of unfair that Region 1 is the ONLY region to get a pan-and-scan DVD release of Balto...why does R2, 3, and 4 get a widescreen Balto and R1 dosent? :(

It's actually when I look at the Balto DVD from Universal that I realize how lucky we are to get the SE's of Disney movies that ALWAYS present the films in the OAR (or...it might be slightly altered, but the widescreen films are still in widescreen!) AND (now-a-days) we get a healthy plate of bonus features...Universal just plain sucks when I compare their Balto DVD to something like the Snow White DVD or even compared to the Limited Issues!!!

LONG LIVE BALTO!! (and, err...bring Balto BACK!)

It's cool to see a fellow Balto fan on a Disney site, by the way! :)

Well, thank you :)
I have also a Lion king site, although it's less updated than my Balto site (which I give priority, considering there are already a lot of Lion king sites on the web, and also because I used to be a Lion King fan but less since I discovered Balto 3 years ago...)

I'll probably check this forum sometimes, and post whenever I have something interesting to say. Although I'm already quite busy with my site...

I've signed, though I'm in R2 land so it's widescreen

Yes, the "non-US" dvd is widescreen, and has a documentary. Although it's still pretty poor compared to what should be on a special edition dvd...
