There's nothing that even remotely resembles a date at the center of my discs. I always assumed that we were talking about the file and directory dates which you can read by inserting the disc in a computer.
That would normally reflect the date the disc was authored, not the date it was pressed.

Anders, the date printed on the disc is on the bottom (laser) side on the plastic part near the hub.Anders M Olsson wrote:There's nothing that even remotely resembles a date at the center of my discs. My copy has some numbers there which I believe denote the volume number of the pressing: 310056 L1 (L5450) TL4-0N-NM1.1
However, if I take my disc and look really closely in the light at the right angle, I can also see a date printed in an area a little higher (further from the hub) using a smaller font size.
Here's what I see on my copy:

In my case, my disc is printed with 10/24/2006 while the file date seen while viewing the video folder on my PC is 9/28/2006.

For those wondering about the context of the Secrets of Life aspect ratio issue, according to Roy E. Disney during the "Filmmaker's Journal" bonus feature segment on Volume 4, Disc 2 (specifically at 0:00:42 - 0:01:45)...
):

In contrast, I took screen captures of my copy of this DVD, which apparently is the "incorrect" version, showing full-frame during the entire feature:

Anders M Olsson graciously posted screen captures of the "correct" version here. I modified the horizontal/vertical ratio on these captures to match the standard full-frame dimensions (640 x 480) -- sometimes when captures are taken, the ratio gets messed up, I guess... I know it happens to me as well for some reason. Anyway, you can view those below (thanks again Anders for providing these!"An interesting thing... the last reel of it was in CinemaScope, uh, the reason for that was it was one of the early eruptions of Mount Kilauea, the big island in Hawaii. And somebody had gone out there, and taken a 16mm CinemaScope, which is asking an awful lot in that little tiny frame, and shot all this footage of that eruption. And it's kinda historic footage because it was the first time, I think, anybody had filmed that sort of an eruption in such good detail and sort of "being there while it was happening" kind of a feeling about it. And so here was all this footage, came in sort of towards the end of that movie, I think. And he says, "let's just find a way to do this and run it so that the whole movie is this until the last reel comes in and then it's the eruption of this volcano."

No date on my hub either. I've got:Tannerman wrote:My copy has some numbers there which I believe denote the volume number of the pressing: 310056 L1 (L5450) TL4-0N-NM1.1
0FXY5 0FXZ5
2283 (311933L0) L5450 (repeated again a litle further out)
and finally really tiny IFPI L486
But it's a Canadian disk, the actual label has the Canadian (G) rating on it.

When I talked to the technical guy from Disney who called me today, I told him about this strange problem everyone has been having with "Secrets of Life" and he was unaware of it. He is going to look into it and call me back. I will let you know what he says.

I did my duty today and called Disney. While they seemed to know more about the Prowler of the Everglades color issue, they did acknowledge that there have been reports regarding Secrets of Life. I was told that Disney has not made a determination yet if they are going to do a replacement. However, if they did, they would call back per the contact information provided when I initially contacted them.
If you are seeing this issue, please call Disney and report your problems. Let's hope they do provide for a replacement if we keep bringing up the issue.

Okay, let me get this straight...
If your DVD has the title card, is it a totally corrected version or is there still a problem with it? Are there any DVDs of this that are okay or are they all defective?
UPDATE: Mine is fullscreen the whole time with no title card. Will check the date when the disc is done playing.
UPDATE 2: Date: 10/30/2006 5:23:16 AM

So has Disney put a return policy in place for the True Life Adventures yet? I REALLY hate that they pulled this crap. I just returned my second Pluto disc because it came with a hole in the enamel and the Figaro cartoons were unplayable and they gave me a HUGE hassle about that. I just dread that. I never got my Back to the Future DVDs returned for the same reason. Is Universal still exchanging those? Anyway, I don’t see how they can make such huge blunders like that. I’ll tell ya what, a lot of people bash church organizations but last year I bought a sermon on CD from one and thee was a glitch in the CD and they automatically sent everyone who bought the CD a free replacement correcting the problem. It’s too bad Disney can’t operate the same way. No, you have to submit your receipt, proof of purchase, and the disc and only if they decide there’s something wrong will you get a replacement. And Now all this talk of the Treasures DVD’s being done before Donald is finished has me kind of miffed. Why, oh, why didn’t they release 4 every year instead of a few years with only 3?!

Grrrrr - I just ordered the True Life Adventure DVDs off Amazon last week! Hopefully I'll get the ones that were pressed later as I don't think they'll replace DVDs for international customers.
This kinda thing is really starting to bug me - I got screwed with my 14-disc Superman box set too and I still haven't heard back from their replacement program. Can't the big studios afford to proof these things any more?

They will. I live in The Netherlands and registered the DVDs on the disneyvideos.com site. I sent in a problem report via the site and yesterday got confirmation that they will send me a replacement DVD when they are available.Douglas Fir wrote:Grrrrr - I just ordered the True Life Adventure DVDs off Amazon last week! Last year I also had some problems with my Elfego Baca disc and Disney replaced it with a correct one.
