They're calling it "40th Anniversary Edition", release date: October 2nd. No cover artwork yet, but the site does feature a trailer (which looks pretty good and vibrant).

I never owned the Limited Issue DVD, so I can't say this for sure, but it looks to me like the footage in the DVD trailer is from the new restoration. Even with the crappy streaming quality, the film looked clearer and sharper than I've ever seen it look. Hopefully this is a Lowry job because as much as I liked Technicolor's work on The Little Mermaid, it still couldn't compare to Lowry's restorations. I've never been a fan of Disney's sketchy xerox style from the 60s and 70s, but if this trailer is any indication, the new restoration will make the style much more appealing thanks to the added sharpness and detail. Thanks for the heads up, Dan!

yeah it seems like a nifty lowry job even at a low resolution and baloo's no longer BA-LUE. another mystery to add with the cinderella's gown & tramp's fur cases.

I think Baloo was only blue in the sequel, ha.

I can't wait for this! LOVE this film! My fave pre-Renaissance Disney! I just hope this release results in the Disney Store finally having a Mowgli beanie (or small plush) stateside! It would look great in my Jungle Book pet-net with my big plushes of Baloo, Louie, Kaa, Bagheera, and Shere Khan!

I love the whole trailer, the image is quite clearer and broader looking too, can't wait for the press release. The only thing that bugged moi, the film's text cause for some reason they used the live action text instead Walt's snazzy broadway style but I guess the live action text was used for dramatic reasons. Pretty soon I'm gon'na make my own JB Platinum trailer and I would like some suggestions for songs please. I have a couple of songs in mind:

Thank You- Simple Plan

Baloo's Song- Bowling For Soup

Find A Way-J5 (not Jackson Five.

I'd appericate more suggestions please

write back please

sWInGin trailer! :D

I'm glad they gave the Lowry job to the better film. I hope we get as much(and I hope much much more) advertisements than "The Little Mermaid"! And of course, some cUH-RaZZIe bonus material!

Oh, and the writer for that trailer and wrote the line "A friendship that lasted forever!" obviously hasn't seen the end of the film. :)

I don't care who restores these films, aslong as they don't make them look like Cinderella and Lady and The Tramp. I don't own this movie at all so I'm looking foward to owning it.

SWEET MOTHER OF GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH FOR TELLING US THIS!!!!! I absolutely CANNOT WAIT until this release! (Honestly, I figured that Disney would call it the 40th anniv. since september, when I realized the release date (1967) and 2007). Ya...

I'm also thinking that what we see will be on the cover...?? I'm pretty sure that the banner is what it will look like, which is fine with me. It fits the film! :)

I. AM. REALLY. LOOKING. FORWARD. TO. THIS. RELEASE.!!!! To me, this is the last "true" classic to be added to my collection! (It's the only Disney movie that is one of my absolute favorites that I don't own in any form).

AND to top it all off, the TRAILER is there! (Hey, it works for me!) And it looks great, and it's getting me even MORE excited about this release!! (is that even possible???) The way many here felt about The Little Mermaid last year, is how I feel about The Jungle Book. This release cannot come soon enough for me! I have waited for this DVD set since I started my collection! (Which was when Bambi was released!)

I second what you said about having a Mowgli beanie! Honestly, I hope they have plushes for ALL of the main characters! I used to have a plush of Shere Khan (I believe it was him. Otherwise, It was Rahjah from Aladdin!), but my mom "accidentially" gave it away to salvation army along with my Lady plush (Lady and the Tramp), which was one of my favorite plushies from when I was little. :(

ANYWAY, being that I'm going off to college next year, I'm HOPING that wherever I go, there will be a mall with a Disney store. Our mall used to have one, but I think that sales weren't that good, so after many years they closed their doors. (I believe that happened about 2-3 years ago...which was sad. ). Anyway, I think that if Disney has already put together a website and a really wonderful (and not to mention, dramatic!) trailer for The Jungle Book which isn't released until 10/2, then I think that we can expect a lot of promotion (via: Cinderella and The Little Mermaid), which is good. If there is going to be a lot of promo. material out there before TJB is released, I can tell you my wallet will certianly fell lighter. I'm mainly going to plan on buying plushies for all the major characters: Definately Baloo, Bagheera, King Louis, Kaa, Shere Khan, and maybe Mowgli and the Vultures (or one of the elephants..?)

I AM SO EXCITED. I need to go to the bathroom now...

I'm just glad we're getting a new Platinum this fall instead of the re-release of "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" that was planned. I hope "Pinocchio" is released next Spring with "101 Dalmatians" coming Fall 2008. That would be perfect.

Just so you know, Snow White is still planned. It has been planned for a Fall 2008 release.

March 6th 2007- Peter Pan
October 2nd 2007- The Jungle Book
March 2008- Pinocchio(??)
October 2008- Snow White (??)

BUT, there is a possiblity that 101 Dalmatians will be released on Oct. 2008 instead. If that's the case, then I agree with you. That would be perfect. (I'm planning to stop buying the PE's after I get the 4 yet to be released (TJB, PP, Pinocchio, and 101D). I already have the Sleeping Beauty: SE which is enough for me (great transfer, and great bonus features), and I have the Fantasia Anthology. (Again, great transfer for such an old feature, and great bonus features). I would only rebuy Fantasia if it's the completely uncut version. And that's all that's left to release! :) If Disney did this right (in other words, without re-releasing a PE like SW or BATB), then the Platinum series could be finnished as soon as October 2009. Which isn't really that far away! (When compared to it's 2001 starting date!) Oh, and I might re-buy The Lion King if the bonus features are out of this world. :P

This kind of news is just flying right past me these days. Excellent stuff, and I guess I'll only be one or two discs away from owning a completely animated classics collection come October. So yay me (and you all needed to know that, right?)

I'm sure it will all be sorted out in time for the BA-LUE-ray disc.

I've been waiting years for a pun that bad!
