I last watched "Charmed"

I'm not sure which episode, but it had something to do with a leperchaun.

Torchwood - 2 part series finale

Well Torchwood's first series was a rather mixed affair, for every part I like, there were two which I loathed. It definitely needed time to find its feet, but it certainly did that. As the series grew to it's end it definitely got stronger and although I don't feel the series went out with a bang, it at least made a good bit of noise.

I'm glad that in the penultimate episode we finally got to get some juice on what the deal with Captain Jack Sparrow is. Ever since his appearance in the first series on Doctor Who and finally we know something. Also perhaps another reason why I wasn't so fond of the earlier series is that each episode was all so distant from each other almost like an episode of Scobby Doo, something's wrong, the mystery is solved off we go. But events from episodes finally lead into others and the story built up to tie things together in the finale. Although impressive I can't help but feel the final climax was a bit short. It seemed that no sooner had final challenge to overcome appeared (and I won't spoil it for those of you who have not seen it ;)), then it was all over and done with, probably because of budget? But who knows. I have to say the final scene of the final episode was very good and it makes me anticipate the third seried of Doctor Who to see what happens next.

Anyway after a shaky start, Torchwood definitely pulled it back to make me look forward to a second series.

One of the best shows on TV currently and one of my personal favorites, NBC's "Friday Night Lights" with its Winter premiere.

Watched CSI tonight because it was the show where William Peterson leaves the show and I wanted to see how they handled it. Good story and naturally they left it wide open if he decides to return. This is by far the best of the CSI shows. The NY one is pretty bad, and I like CSI: Miami almost as much as the regular CSI. William Peterson will be missed, let's hope the Marg Helgenberger can handle the lead in style.

Torchwood - 2 part series finale

I've actually just watched these again, a reason my post is a little later than 'Bod's. I think he's right on the mark. Torchwood has improved (although oddly, I still think the 1st episode - tellingly the only one written by RTD himself - was the best) but it still doesn't really know what it is or what it is supposed to be doing. Take the finale. Part one is an excellent character piece, while part 2 is an all out monster mash (and made me think of Godzilla). There's not enough work made to tie the constasting styles together in a whole, much like all the episodes of the season. They don't add up to anything.

Now, I enjoyed the 1st episode where Captain Jack and Tosh were stuck back in the 1940's and we meet the real Captain Jack Harkness. We also saw some good character conflict between Owen and Ianto (the latter until now has been somewhat lacking in character) It was almost flawless but... but... the stupid ending ruined it.

I don't mind Gay kissess as long as the context is there, but this was another attempt for the show to pretend it was all adult and grown-up when really it was the opposite. There is no way a US Airforce captain (like the real Captain Jack) would kiss dance with and kiss another man in public in 1941. I would guess he'd be hard pressed to do it today!

Now, if they said that this was the reason his plane was shot down the next day, and implied he had - basically - commited suicide... fought as if he had nothing left to live for now his secret was out, as a result of his dance with our Captain Jack, then the show might actually have been making an adult point. As it was, it said nothing, resulting in the ending looking cheap and nasty.

The second half was a comic strip monster romp, and never really rose above that. Not that that means it was bad, but again it wasn't really "adult" as promised. There seemed to be a connection to Doctor Who's The Beast with the final monster (Torchwood's demon was apparently chained in the Earth below the rift, not in a planet orbiting a black hole). I'm also a little unclear on why the Rift machine looked and sounded like the TARDIS' central column. Is the implication that Jack built it himself at some point? Is that why its based on Time-Lord technology (and he has the plans)?

Overall, Torchwood S1 was disappointing. I don't think it was a total disaster though, and I expect S2 to be better.

Right now I'm watching the Season One finale of Desperate Housewives on my DVD. Afterwards I'm going to watch as much of the Season Two DVD as I can. I'm going to watch various episodes of the series just to keep me satisfied until Sunday night. I dispise the two-month hiatus!

CBS got the drop on everyone tonight with all three of its Friday night shows being brand new, so we watched Ghost Whisperer, Close to Home and, my favorite of them all, Numbers. What did you watch Friday night that wasn't a re-run?

Encore's Westerns Channel is marathoning The Rifleman with Chuck Connors and Johnny Crawford. They are adding these to the daily lineup beginning Monday, January 8, but they are showing the first 24 episodes in order of release. Then at midnight Eastern time tonight (Saturday) they are showing Bat Masterson with Gene Barry. Some good memories here with these two series.

Xena Warrior Princess
3x13 -- One Against An Army

A series classic, no doubt. From the funny teaser, to the emotional second act, to the exciting climax of the episode, this episode grabs your attention the whole way through and doesn't let go 'till the very end. I don't think I've ever seen another show that can make you laugh for 5 minutes, only to turn half-way through to a pretty standard episode, only to once again turn to a complete drama. And to top it off, deliver a 7 minute action scene filled with awesome fight stunts and choreography. 10/10

One of the best hours of TV you'll ever go through.

Xena Warrior Princess
3x12 - The Bitter Suite

TV's real first musical (yes Buffy, I'm looking at you and your spotlight-stealing musical 8) ). Executed wondefully, and serves the overarcing plot of the season. Some songs are actually quite similar to Disney's Beauty and the Beast, but that can generally be considered a good thing! 9.5/10

So NoTorious - "Plucky," "Jealous," and "Accomodating"

and, the other day, I watched... Friends. Two whole episodes - the one where Rachel tells her Dad she's pregnant and the other one the Thanksgiving episode where Brad Pitt pretends he was actually fat once and hates Rachel because she wasn't nice to him in high school. I must admit, even though I still hate the show with a passion... I laughed much harder than I ever expected this show could make me. Rachel's Dad was hilarious! But the Brad Pitt thing personally offended me. Brad Pitt offends me normally (I hate him) and then the fact that he pretends to once have been fat... It's hardly flattering to the Overweight Community, a Community I was once a Card-Carrying member of and I'm here to tell you, it's not easy. It's a constant struggle and instead of actually making the point that people are all the more insensitive for treating you Completely Different once you've lost the weight (like you EXIST and you're worthy of being found attractive, not just physically or sexually, but as someone worth Talking To), the charactes' reactions to him were not to an overweight person who lost weight - they were to, here's Brad Pitt, a guy who allegedly has the power to make any woman or gay man hop into bed with him after just one flash of the teeth or one stretch of his arms behind his back. It goes to prove how devoted the show is to appearences only- God forbid they ever try to get to something tangible underneath. So I guess they got the right guy to do it - which is why I still hate Brad Pitt. But aside from that, I laughed a lot and might consider watching another episode, from that same season.

Watched parts one and two of the four hour premier of season six of 24 last night. Looking forward to tonight's two-hour episode. This show looks like it is going to keep up with the rest as one of the best shows on television right now. Jack Bauer has been freed from the Chinese in order to trade him for information on a terrorist cell in the United States. Well, not giving anything away, Jack Bauer isn't going to give his life that easy.

Lots of new cast members this season, with Wayne Palmer now the Presdent of the United States, and Karen Hays and Bill Buchanan are now husband and wife.

Looks life another winner for the creators of "24".
