The Hologram

Post by Supermkz »

Hey everyone,

I'm new to the forum :D

Was just wondering with some of the newer Disney DVDs do they have Holograms because a few i've bought recently don;t have them like The Plat Ed of Fox & The Hound, Fox & The Hound 2, The Little Mermaid.

I know a fake when i see one but these look so real down to he packaging, inlays, leaflets ect.

The only thing that is missing is the Hologram. Anyone know anything about this?

Thanks :D

Hey, Welcome to the forum Supermkz.

Just wanted to let you know that my PE 2disc version of the Little Mermaid has a hologram on the slipcover, but not on the actual dvd case.

I bought mine in Belgium so I have the one with the French/Dutch/English title on the cover. (so actually I should call it special edition, as we dont have platinum editions in Europe)

I don't think any of the US Platinum Editions had a hologram slipcover or actual cover.

What type of hologram are we talking about ? If you mean a special reflective cover, then my PE Little Mermaid has a slightly shiny/reflective cover on parts of it. Also, my special 2disc edition of POTC2 has a neat cover that kind of gives the effect of grimy, slimy, greenish seaweed and salt water.

Are you talking about the hologram that looks like this that's on the spine or the rear of the case?

Becuase if you are, Region 1 Disney DVDs don't have them.

Only Region 2 Disney DvDs have the hologram ichabod posted. They introduced them in 2004 (?), I guess.

Well the rectangular one above was introduced in 2004, but holograms have been around a lot longer, previously they were round and usually on the back of the case and these were around on VHSs since the 80s.

Non-R1 Disney DVDs also have Disney (or Buena Vista) based holograms on the actual discs now too!

Because Disney US moans and complains about piracy all the time, and yet, rather than do anything positive about it at all to help people detect pirate copies so that would be purchases of bootlegs can make an informed decision, they would rather take the easy option and lobby to force draconian digital rights management laws on the public? Even thoughI suspect a large proportion of people who do by Disney bootlegs do so in ignorance.
Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database

Yeah, all my VHSs have the old circle shaped hologram. Didn't they stop the holograms on DVDs at some point and then re-introduce them? I have several of the "older" Disney R2DVDs and they don't have any hologram. (They're not bootlegs, I got them in the shop, and my BatB, that I bought off ebay was originally wrapped and had the price label still on it from a shop.)

My R2s have holograms but i was sure i heard that all Disney DVDs have holograms so got thinking id been had. The ones that don't have it are so good though there was no way they could've been copied.

All of my region 2 Disney dvds (23 of them) have holograms but there are differences in style.

The older ones, like Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Pinocchio etc. have the silver circle one on the back of the case with the picture of Fantasia Mickey on them. The rest have the rectangular gold framed hologram with a picture of Steamboat Willie Mickey but some have it on the spine and the rest on the back of the case. I'm still trying to figure out why some have it one place and some in another.
