I think he meant that the dogs weren't on a leash.

Zoltack, I am so, so sorry to hear about your loss. I have pets myself that I love with all my heart and am very attached to. I feel for you :(

You'll be in my prayers.

Yes, but because Max wasn't on a leash we were breaking that law too which is why if we press charges (and we will) we will be fined.

Zoltack, you don't know how sorry I am. I feel so angry and depressed, that that stupid bastard didn't help you or say " let's take him to the hospital" or beat his dogs off him. Words can't express how deeply devastated I feel. Althougn I don't know you I have cats of my own and if I saw dogs biting my cats to death I think I would lose it, I admire your courage to take action againts this horrible incident. I know you feel like crying and evertime you remember your cat you probably will start to tear up. I myself feel like crying, but you have to be strong. My cat was stolen from me (my aunt was taking care of him, while my family and I were out of the country on vacation) and the thought of never seeing him again drove me crazy, I would cry myself to sleep. But God decided to return him to me and allow me to take care of him for the rest of his life. After I found him at a shelter he was extremely thin, sick and on the verge of dying. Justice will take it's course and life and the law will see to that this dirtbag gets what's coming to him. It's not the dog's fault it's the stupid owner that's to blame. I hope you recover at a steady pace, I know this will always be a bitter memory for you, but try to take yourself out of depression if you don't you'll get sick. I know because I got sick (and my aunt who was taking care of him got really really sick, she couldn't even talk on the phone without crying histerically). We all care about you and I will pray for you to get better soon. We want you to be happy, but losing a loved one is hard to overcome so when ever you feel like crying just cry don't hold your feelings back. Don't let anyone tell you that crying will make your cat suffer more, that is a complete lie. Time will heal your wounds, it all takes time. Here's a cyber hug, to hopefully give you some support and to let you know you're not alone.

Well, being a cat-owner, I certainly feel sorry and can relate. While my cat hasn't died or is anywhere near death, she really is like my daughter just like Max was like your brother. And if I let her outside(which isn't often), I worry about her coming home safe.

I hope you get the dog owners to at least pay for the vet appointment. R.I.P. Max. :( :( :(

wow i didnt even catch that. maybe it means that all animals are supposed to be on leashes? some places have rules like that.

again, zoltack i'm sorry for your loss :( let us know what happens if you want to get these people for animal cruelty like i think you should (as do, i think, many other people here)

Being fined for not having a cat on a leash? That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. Don't they think your family is going through enough right now without being fined? Cats do not wear leashes!

I'm so sorry, Zoltack. I can't imagine what it must have been like to see Max like that.

Well, I want to thank all of you for all of your kind words. I've never meet any of you and some of you live across either the Pacific or Atlantic ocean reaching out to me. You all are so very kind. Thank you again.

I want to clear the leash law with some of you. Any pet you own weather it's a cat or dog, when ever they go out side they need to be controlled (either by leash or tether) and not running around loose. Or they need to be placed in a back yard with a fence high enough that they can't scale it or in a kennel with the top closed. The two dogs that killed Max weren't on a leash so their owner broke the law and Max was not on a leash so we broke the law. Therefore, when we press charges we will be fined for breaking the leash law.

Now the reason for leash laws are so your pets don't kill any wild life, each other (HINT! HINT!) or for protection (a leash can prevent a pet from being hit by a car).

I've owned both cats and dogs during my childhood. If a dog attacks a cat or another dog then what's to stop that dog from attacking a human? Those dogs should be put down since they killed another animal.
Dragon, not lizard. I don't do that tongue thing.

When my dad arrive home from work today he got a chance to right his report. I read that report and I'm going to type it here because my dad was the only one to see the attack.

Once again this isn't for the faint of heart.

"On January 3, 2007 at around 11:30p.m. I was awoken to a loud noise; it was a cat screaming. I rushed outside and saw two large dogs gaining up on our family cat. One dog viciously bit the cat and I screamed and yelled at the dogs but it did nothing. I didn't want to attempt confronting the dogs because I feared for my safety and life. I went back into the house to get the keys to the garage to obtain a baseball bat. When I headed back outside another dog viciously bit the cat, breaking his spine. I screamed at the dogs again and finally the owner showed up. The dogs ran over to the owner and I yelled "your dogs killed my cat!" He replied "I didn't know there would be other pets out at this time of night." My son and I loaded the cat into the car where 10 minutes later the cat had died. The dogs and the cat were not on a leash and these dogs have tried to attack our cat before."

So it was a lot worse than I thought. Those two dogs literally broke Max in half which would explain why he couldn't get up; he was paralyzed from the waist down.

My statement and my dad's is finish and I will return them to the Humane Society tomorrow. Hopefully, soon after that I will receive a summons to court to testify which I'm very itching to do.

I will keep you all updated.

OMG I'm soooooo sorry to hear about that, I think that the fact your cat wasn't on a leash should be excluded when you sue him, since if you cat was on a leash wouldn't the dogs still have been able to atttack him? and if they did wouldn't the leash hinder the amount of freedom he had, how could he escape if he was tied up? I think you can sue him for destruction of property since your pets are actually considered your property, I really hope this guy gets whats coming to him, I would have probably smacked him or something, also while I'm thinking of it, you could probably sue him for Negligence or something along those lines since he was aware of the leash law, and still didn't bother to put his dogs on a leash. Again I'm very very sorry to hear about your loss, and will be thinking of you and your family for the next while

Being a fellow cat person and having had something similar happen to us before, I can relate with what you're going through. I'm so sorry to hear this. You and your family will be in my thoughts.

No cheers here,

I am so sorry for the loss of your cat. That had to have been horrible to experience. I am a cat-lover....and have two of my own right now.

I hope you end up getting some justice from the vicious dog owner.

Take Care.

I am sorry to hear about your cat. I used to have a cat when I was young. his name was Benji but we had to give him up because I was allergic to him. Also one of my neighbor's cats was killed by a dog as well.
