I have more then one favorite tho as most of u have stated as well.

two chips and a miss - chip & dale are prob some of my favorite characters & having a female chipmunk: Clarice is awesome...tho i think that was her one & only appearance unless she was in others I am unaware of.
the lone chipmunks The ONLY time chip & dale foil my favorite classic characters villian: Pete... in this short he is known as Black Pete.
three little pigs: the first book w/ casette tape combo I got was this & i loved loved LOVED the toon
Prince & the Pauper Though its more of a featurette.... i remember this being one of my fav "newer" classic toons that featured so many of the classics.
On Ice It used to air every year along w/ Mickeys' Xmas Carol. I loved the opening sequence with all the characters on the ice.

Plutos Xmas TreeThis one also used to air w/ Mickeys Xmas Carol. Loved it!
Mickeys Xmas Carol: Again, prob more of a featurette then a short- but it included ALL the classic characters & main characters even if they were brief cameos (except Pluto- he was MIA in this one!).

My personal favorite is The Little Whirlwind. I loved it when I was a kid & it still amuses me to this day. I love the pantomime actions of Mickey & I love the over the top Ward Kimball animation.

There are many great Disney shorts, but I really enjoyed watching three particular shorts: "Mickey's Trailer", "Truant Officer Donald" and "Trailer Horn". All of those three have excellent music in them, funny stuff going on, have some memorable scenes, and the overall feel is just great.
Some things you see with your eyes, others you see with your heart.

This was the first time I had the opportunity to watch “Der Fuehrer’s Face”, as a person who enjoy a lot political cartoons this became to me the only one from Disney that enter in this category, especially because far from promote the US army it focus on the “enemy” ideas... this is now one of may favorite although Disney as a promoter in the war propaganda is not a think that I personally enjoy...

Wow! What an interesting thread! I'd like to share my favourites aswell.
Unfortunately, I have not seen too many Disney shorts (
). During my lifetime, I've seen most through the "Walt Disney on the Front Lines" and "Mickey Mouse in Living Colour" Volumes 1 and 2 Treasures sets which I managed to acquire just last August.
When I was younger I remember seeing some Donald Duck shorts on one of the Italian "Rai" Channels (Raiuno/Raidue/Raitre), but I've now forgotten them. Also, on some Disney (bootlegged) videos I once had, a couple of Silly Symphonies like "Three Orphan Kittens" or "Noah's Ark" were present after the end of the feature.
Anyways...from my limited viewings, these are my absolute favourite Disney shorts:

The Little Whirlwind
Der Fuehrer's Face
There are a lot of others that I like aswell, but those are my favourites.
Importantly, just like there are my favourite shorts, there are also those which bore me or shatter my nervous system. A good example might be:

I think this could very well be one of the least inspired Disney shorts. I'm sorry to say, that I'd even label it unimaginative, compared to the stuff that used to come out of Warner Bros. and MGM's Tom and Jerry.
Whilst we're on the subject of shorts, it's interesting to note that in the official list of the "50 Greatest Cartoons Of All Time", there aren't many Disney cartoons. It's mainly composed of Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies. Does that mean that the Warners' shorts were superior to the Disney shorts?

Well I posted in this thread ages ago my favourite Mickey cartoons, with plans to do more, but this thread got buried, so I'll now share my favourite Silly Symphonies!
The Skeleton Dance
The first and one of the best! Simply stunning! The marriage of the music and the visuals together is amazing! One shot that always gets me if where the skeleton moves his head towards the "lens" and then back again! There's something enchanting about it that even today, I don't think there is a piece of animation as striking!
Autumn
One of the Silly Symphonies that doesn't seem to get mentioned much but one that I find really charming. The antics of the squirrels gathering provisions for the winter I just find really charming, a really well animated early cartoon!
Frolicking Fish
A standard dancing animals short, but the animation is stunning! The number of fish in some of those shots looks stunning!
Monkey Melodies
Another early cartoon that is superbly animated and action packed!
Egyptian Melodies
The animation in this short always mesmerises me. The spider wandering around the innards of the pyramids is wonderfully animated. Very imaginative, very impressive.
The Clock Store
A really wonderful example of anthropomorphising inanimate objects! Wonderfully entertaining.
Bugs in Love
A fantastic short! Almost coming before it's time, unlike the majority of the other black and white shorts! It seems more like the cartoons that came later in the series in terms of coupling story, music and characters. Superb!
The Three Little Pigs
Well what can I say? A classic!
The Grasshopper and the Ants
One of the more well known and with good reason! Fantastic version of the classic fable, and perhaps an inspiration for the wonderful 'A Bug's Life'? "The World Owes me a Livin' " needs more recognition and inclusion on more music compilations.
The Flying Mouse
Story, music, artistry, dance, moral, what more do you want! The song "you're nothin' but a nothin' " also needs wider release.
The Old Mill
Stunning, simply stunning!
The Practical Pig
What I love about the sequels to the Three Little Pigs is that they didn't just slap together a bunch of crap just to get something out becuase the first was popular (no comment as to what other sequels I'm talking about
). A wonderfully inventive short!
The Ugly Duckling (1939)
A wonderful cartoon, but probably did spell the end of the Silly Symphonies as it's clear from this short that the level of story and artistry had risen to the level where Disney were ready for bigger and better.

Since I posted in this thread before, here's an update list for my favorite animated shorts.
Ben and Me (1953) - This is my all-time favorite animated featurette and always loving it since I was a child. Wonderful story, in my opinion. I would've been happier if that short won as an Academy Award winner, but in the end it received as an nomination.
Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day (1968) - This is, in my opinion, the best animated featurette from the Winnie the Pooh Trilogy, particulary known as "The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh". What really interests me is the Hufflelumps and Woozles scene is filled with psychedellic features and the song composed by The Sherman Brothers is awesome. Simply fantastic and I'm glad that short received an Academy Award winner for Best Animated Short in 1968.
Scrooge McDuck and Money (1967) - I haven't seen this animated short in ages, but this is definately one of the better educational shorts that simply about the history of Economics.
Any "I'm No Fool" animated shorts - Same as "Scrooge McDuck and Money", I haven't seen those in ages. I just wish these educational shorts like this would be in the next wave of Walt Disney Treasures, which I'm praying for.
The Three Little Pigs (1933) - What more do you want me to expect? Simply the best animated short from Silly Symphonies era. The sequels to that short are great, especially "The Pratical Pig" and "The Three Little Wolves".
Mickey's Christmas Carol (1983) - An adaption to Charles Dicken's book, but this one is definately one of the best in the early 80's. It simply includes all of the classic Disney characters, one by one, as well as others that appeared as cameos. Scrooge McDuck, as Ebenizer Scrooge, simply for what Ducktails fans are simply waiting for.
The Small One (1978) - This is the first animated short that Don Bluth ever did before he left the studio and released "The Secret of NIMH" about four years later. Simply beautiful and wonderful story.
Hawaiian Holiday - Simply the best animated short features Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy, and Pluto. One of my favorite scenes is when Donald's skirt accidently caught on fire and he runs to find water to clear it. Hillarious, I'd tell you.
I'd guess that's it for now.

This is a bit too hard for me, I think. I LOVE "Scrooge McDuck and Money" and "A Symposium on Popular Song" though. Really wish McDuck and Money was available on DVD already. I also LOVE "Casey Bats Again," but probably mostly because of all his gorgeous daughters... Gotta love the wartime stuff and any Christmas stuff too. Always was a big fan of "The Small One," which is another I don't have on DVD yet because I am hoping for an unedited "Disney Treasures" cut. I love "Two Chips and a Miss," "In the Bag," and "Cookie Carnival" too, among many others.

Modern Inventions is the bee's freakin' knees.
I love just about every Donald Duck cartoon you can name, but there's something about this one which stands head and shoulders above them all. Donald himself is on super-top form in it, and the 'modern inventions' themselves (mostly a bunch of one-track-minded robots) are hilarious. No matter what my mood, I can always count on this short to help lift my spirits.
Other shorts I particularly favour include Donald's Better Self, Mr. Duck Steps Out, Lonesome Ghosts and Two Weeks Vacation.
