Alvin and the Chipmunks

I opened this thread thinking that it would be fun, maybe people would say that they loved the Chipmunks, or that their voices were annoying. So I say let's stop taking these discussions so seriously and just have some fun. I know Aaron works really hard to put these together, and deserves better treatment than this. Anyways, I'll get onto the subject at hand. I grew up watching the Chipmunks and listened to their music. They aren't my favorite, but I enjoy them enough. Christmas isn't Christmas without hearing the Chipmunk song several times. It is amazing that a fictional group could win grammies and be so successful, so if nothing else their creators deserve credit for that.

You should've said that you read this thread, instead of opened it. When I read that line, I thought that you were taking credit for what Aaron had done. I was ready for a fight! And yeah, I guess their creators should deserve some credit. I guess that it wasn't easy making that chipmunk sound.

The Chipmunks are okay, I guess, I mean nothing I attach a real nostalgia to. I can't say anything bad at least, but I, to this day get a kick out of running one of my vinyls and speeding it up from 33 1/3 RPM to 78 RPM, giving any record you want an exceptional Chipmunk quality.

I love the Chipmunks! Definitely one of my favorite cartoons of the '80s (y'know, right up there with Transformers and Ninja Turtles lol). Or was the show from the '90s? I can't really remember because I was born in '88 hehe.

Anyway I have three Chipmunks DVDs: The one with the Christmas episode, the "Trick or Treason" Halloween-themed one, and the movie. I was sooooo happy when I found the movie on DVD! I didn't expect to ever see that one get a DVD release. I love having the holiday-themed volumes but I'd much rather have season sets.

I also have 2 CDs: the soundtrack to the movie and the Christmas one (with Santa narrating) that came with the Christmas DVD... very cool!

I suppose I am more familiar with the Chipmunks as cartoon stars than anything. Like so many others, I grew up with their Saturday morning show in the 80s. It was one of my regulars. I saw their feature film in theaters, and it remains one of my top favorite non-Disney animated features. It's really rather clever and well done! The villains are hilarious and the Chipettes are adorable! I remember seeing their really old cartoon show on Nickelodeon as a kid, and I have their Christmas classic special by Chuck Jones on VHS (need to upgrade). It's a wonderful holiday tradition (though I forgot to put it on this year!). They made some direct to video features in the 90s, I believe. The only one I have seen though, is Alvin and the Chipmunks Meet the Wolf Man, which I have on VHS. It's an excellent direct to video animated flick. I hear there is now a Chipmunk babies type video series coming out for little kids that will use puppets and will also include the Chipettes. When it comes to the music of the Chipmunks, some folks find it irritating, some folks love it. I don't know how much I'd love listening to a whole album nowadays, but I do have "Chipmunks In Low Places" on cassette and remember liking it. Their novelty act is great for Christmas songs, when it's fun to hear goofy versions of things. I think I have a Chrismas tape of their really old stuff too. In general though, I will always prefer them as cartoon characters rather than true recording stars, but I won't deny them that status. I imagine they deserve to be up there with folks like "Weird Al," whom I am a huge fan of, and should be looked at as a musical comedy act of sorts.

I grew up with the 80s TV series, and it was awesome. What I find so weird about the Chipmunk songs is that they are obviously sped up versions of the original songs, yet are still fun to hear and at times, sound better than the original versions!

I know a lot of people hated the new movie, but I thought it was good. Much better than I expected, though some things annoyed me, like how Simon, who was the straight man in the group, pretty much forgave Alvin's behavior when in the series they were always at it. But overall, it kinda felt like a classic episode of the TV series, but set in our modern era.

I grew up with the Munks in the 90s and recall the Chipmunks go to the movies season. The film really harked me back to memory lane when I saw them.

I'll admit that I like the orignal too yet I did enjoy the X-mas Song remake from the film (with Jason Lee) . I wonder how the '08 Chipmunks captured the attenion of today's generations.......
