Your Special Cast Member/Character story!

Post by The Merman »

I was watching the most heart warming cast member video on Disney Motion.
It got me thinking that the cast members in any Disneypark around the world are a special kind of people and they all must have a story to tell. But so do the guests!

So share your special cast member stories with the rest of us. Maybe they are old from when you visited Disney when you were a small kid, or they may be very resent, you decide.

The link to the cast member video:http://video.disney.go.com/motion/index ... ms_CN00368[/url]

I shall be adding my own special cast member story in a separate post.

This is just one of the many stories that I have about great Disney cast members. This one was around two years ago when me and my dad visited DisneyWorld in Florida.

It was a warm end-of-summer night, and my dad and I were walking around Downtown Disney. There was the usual buzz of people and children waiting outside restaurants for something to eat. We walked past the Lego store where children were building all sorts of things to show to their parents.

We came to the end of our midnight walk and after the new pet shop we decided to take the Ferry back to the other side of the lake to go back to the hotel. When we stepped on the ferry a man with a grey mustache greeted us with a deep stern voice. All aboard! When everyone was seated he introduced him self as Captain James ... and he asked al the children if they had a special destination in mind. After the children got all excited he started the ferry and sang some beautiful classic Disney songs. The best was when he sang "Beyond the Sea" and a little girl in a Cinderella dress was looking at him with huge eyes and he turned around and winked at her. She was all shy and tried to hide in the arms of her father. My dad looked at me and said "This is what makes Disney so special" and we looked across the water at all the shiny lights.

The fact that this man was enjoying his job with such intensity was just amazing and made that 15 minute ferry ride, something I will always remember. The dark water, the shimmering stars in the sky, and this mans pleasure created an atmosphere only possible in Disney.

Well my story goes like this...last weekend we arrive (my Wife and my Boy) to the Disneyland park, we came to the revision points whit our lunch packs already opened (like every weekend since we own a passport) then the Lady ask us if we plan to eat our sandwiches (that was mostly our boy lunch and a few snacks but it is not like you shall explain any single detail) then we said yes, obviously, then She told us to leave our food out side the park or either we can not enter, we try to explain Her that when the right time came we will go out side and eat, but by no means we will pay for the big storage box located in the picnic area, by the end of the explanation She was angry and no even paying attention to what we said, so we ask to talk to Her manager and was until I ask Her twice when She finally call another security person (at this point we look like a third of terrorist squeezing a killer sandwich to the park), another Lady much, much serenade came and tell us that She will told us where the picnic area was located, then we explain the same thing, after She ask the first Lady what was the problem She came back and told us we have to much food to enter the park (Yes those four sandwiches where far to much for the three of us) then we show the lunch box to Her (the second Lady) and again ask Her if we can talk to Her manager (if their actually exist, because there was never any communication with any other person) after She saw the food She told us to follow Her...Yes to the entrance of the Park ant told us to have a Great Day. The first hour was not that pleasant but then we just laugh and make jokes about it all day long, good thing it was the Year of a million dreams other wise we could be arrested by Mickey I guess...

It is funny now but it was not at the moment, first time that happen to us in the last five years of continuos visits to the park...we do not mind when some one tell us what to do if they can still cordial, and I hope the staff keep the same energy and effort in their job, still one of the best places to visit.
:)
For your reference and records my native language is Spanish.

I guess sometimes some security reasons are difficult to handle as you have thousands of people enetering the parks each day. Terrorism is a real problem, and I am happy Disney has a tight security on this matter. Can you imagin what would happen if a terrorist would blow up in the parks causing perhaps thousands of deaths and injured?

I think it was last year...My husband and I were at Magic Kingdom, and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs were outside. It's rare to see the Dwarfs, so we wanted to wait in line to meet them. The line had been cut-off, so we had to come back. The next time we came back, the line was cut-off again. A cast member told us to come back (again) at a certain time. So we sat near the spot, waiting for the time to come (so we would have a space in line). We waited long after the time we were told, and no Snow White or the Dwarfs. We walked away from that spot, and I saw the cast member and gave her the "evil eye" (I was disappointed, and upset that she lied to us, but I don't remember if I meant to have that evil of an eye). She apologized and accompanied us on the train to Toontown, to meet Snow White (we went through a special entrance and "cut" the line to meet her). Still no Dwarfs, but that was great of the cast member to do. I think we went to Main Street and filled out a cast member appreciation card (so her manager or whoever would know what a great job she was doing). We eventually saw the Dwarfs at the Halloween party this year, but we didn't meet them (long lines), but we did take their picture.

I appreciate the cast members on the transportation who try to make you laugh when you're tired after a long day in the park. One time when I visited the Magic Kingdom with my parents (probably around 1986), we were riding one of the trams to our car. As we approached our stop, the guide said for everyone exiting at that stop to raise their right hands. After everyone raised their hands, he said something like, "Now turn to your left and wave to the people beside you, because chances are that you are never going to see them again in your life!" We laughed about that, and I still think about it whenever I see people getting out of the trams.

We've also had some fun bus drivers on the Disney transportation system.

Mine isn't a long one, but I really like Cast Members, so I'm going to say it anyways!

Well, I was in line for Space Mountain right when the Fastpass was introduced (not all the bugs were worked out yet, and so a hostess would stop our line EVERY time a fastpass person came towards us.) So, of course, we get to the hostess. Well. I'm a very, very, VERY social person towards strangers. So I decide to talk to her. She's very nice, and talks back. Then I ask her, "Do you know why the Matterhorn is shut down?" She replies (and this is like, normal voice too) "Yes. They are cutting back the rocks." I look puzzled, "Why?" "Well, you see, the rocks were growing, and started to get in the way of the track. So they had to shut it down to cut the rocks back." This makes COMPLETE sense to me. So I go through the rest of the line, ride the ride, and as I'm getting off I suddenly say, "Wait a second! Rocks don't grow!"

Another time, we were waiting on our numbers about to board the elevator in Tower Of Terror. Our Host was AWSOME. He was perfect! My sister was jumping up and down, and he walks over and says in this really drawn out way, "What did you do? Swallow jumping beans?" And then we got on, and we sit in the front row. He leans in and goes, "Hold on to any valuables you want to keep...or don't if you don't want them." My sister laughs, and he goes, "What are you laughing about? I don't see anyone holding on to you." So we go through the ride, and the elevator doors open. No one is there. Everyone starts to worry, and murmur, when BAM! He jumps up and foreward. Everyone jumped and screamed. Then he let us out. He enjoyed his job, obviously, and made my experience much better. We look for him now. :3

I personally didn't have any special cast member moments, but my older brother did.

When he was about 5 or 6, he got lost in the Magic Kingdom. He was hysterical & scared half to death. Then a cast member came to him, calmed him down & he stopped crying. Then he brought him to the special services station to call my parents. But the cast member stayed with him the whole time. He sang songs with him, gave him a lollipop, he even brought Mickey & Goofy over to help cheer him up! He was there for about 15 - 20 minutes before my mom came to get him.

My mother & brother were forever grateful to that cast member. My brother remembers it like it was just yesterday. I think it's the most touching, generous & caring story I ever heard. But since it's Disney, there's no surprise there!

This past summer I was getting ready to watch the SpectroMagic Parade in the MK and next to us a girl was crying. A cast member approached her and started talking to her. He sat with her for a while, and then took her autograph book and took it backstage and got it signed by some characters. Then after that, he made a special announcement and said that she would get to turn off all of the lights on Main Street for the parade by throwing pixie dust in the air. This had to of made the child's life. Just to see how happy and amazed her and her family were was so great. This is what the Disney Parks are about, making people's dreams come true, and with cast members like this guy it's easy to see why it's the happiest place on earth.

When I was ten, I stayed at the Wilderness Lodge with my mom and her then boyfriend, CJ. Well, the WL has a restaurant called Whispering Canyon Cafe, where there was a waiter by the name of Rick O'Shay. He was HIV positive and didn't have much longer on this earth, if you know what I mean. Well, I had this complex when I was younger where I would lie about what country I came from. So, at this point, Italy was my country of choice. The whole backstory was that I used to fight in the Italian army (bear in mind, I'm 10, at this point). Well, Rick could see I was lying, but he totally played along with it, calling me "The General" and just having a good old time with me. So, the years passed and my mom and CJ have since broken up, but CJ is wealthy enough to afford going to WDW a couple times a year, and he always stayed at the WL. He would see Rick from time to time, as Rick was getting sicker and sicker, but all the same, he recognized CJ and always asked how "The General" was doing.

That is a really heart warming story! Hows is the waiter doing now? Did he pass away or still working there?

I'm pretty sure he died. The last couple times I talked to CJ, he looked for Rick but he wasn't there, so his guess was Rick died. :(

Oh, that is really sad. :( :( Still it was a really nice story too! :) I'm glad you still have those memories. Just out of curiousity, what other countries did you say you were from?

I haven't been as fortunate as others to get extra special treatment by Disney cast tmembers, or at least can't think of a story at the moment, but my siblings are cast members who try to add a little more Disney magic to the guests' visits to Magic Kingdom.

As most of you all know, Escapay is a cast member at Magic Kingdom and he probably would be better to tell his stories, but one thing I remember him (and my sister) telling me was the explanation for Tinker Bell's "wire" as she flies across the night sky during the fireworks show. During the daytime, it's in plain site so many wonder what it is. One explanation was that it's there so Prince Charming can get ESPN in the castle. My favorite was that it was a line Peter Pan drew in the sky so Tinker Bell knows where to fly safely during the fireworks.

I've got another one!

Post by Trumpet Joe »

This one is from late 2004 when I went to WDW with my dad. We got to MGM Studios a little before it opened, and as it turned out, we weren't the only ones. So, to keep all of us entertained, some cast members dressed like the Army Men from Toy Story came out. Well, there was this one really nasty woman waiting outside with us, and she was giving one of the Army Men a hard time. "How long are you gonna make us wait out here?" she yelled. "It should be about ten more minutes, ma'am" said Army Man. "Well, I called the park ahead of time, and the operator told me I'd be waiting a whole half hour!" the lady continued. Without missing a beat, Army Man said "Ma'am, I told you it would be ten minutes while you're claiming it'll be a half hour. Now simple math will dictate that ten minutes is not as long as a half hour. If you'd like me to, I can arrange for you to wait a half hour." The woman then stormed off. Then, Army Man started talking to me. He said "Son, do you have any Army Men at home?" Playing along, I said "Yes, sir". "Are they green or brown?" he asked me. "Green" I replied. "That's good" said Army Man. "I made Andy give all his Brown Army Men to Sid next door".

The man was completely brilliant!
 :)

Before eating breakfast at the Cinderella Castle in Fantasyland, Magic Kingdom, I had a chance meeting with a suffragist character actress in Fantasyland's opening town area. Actually, I met with four suffragists at the same time, but one eternally holds a special place in my memory. She was definitely the closest I've come to seeing Prudence at the parks. Her hair was in an auburn updo, her clothes were black, and her jewelry was aquamarine. My hair wasn't up, my clothes were modern, but we had nearly identical jewelry. She complimented me on my brooch, which lead to a conversation about being self-sufficient women and still being ladies. It was amazing. Had I not made breakfast reservations, I would have stayed longer.

I loved the breakfast and the castle, of course. Cinderella also complimented me on my jewelry, and warned me that Drizella might try to steal the pieces! We shared a laugh.

I know someone here has a touching story about Princess Aurora, if he doesn't mind telling us all.

Best Character Expierience

Post by MadameGaston »

Everyone has a special character expierience at WDW, whats yours?

My best character expierience is kinda unbelievable but here it goes! ONe time at MGM I asked a CM if I could go meet and greet with Gaston after the BATB stage show, they said yes! When I saw Gaston backstage I told him how much of a crush I had on him and he started flirting with me a bunch and told me he really liked my red outfit and I kissed him on the cheek! But wwhen I was about to leave he asked me to kiss him again and he kissed me on the lips ! I was shocked but happy : )! :o

Sorry I know your a big fan of the guy but I must say that's kinda gross, lol !

As much as I used to like Pinocchio, I kicked him once on his wooden rear-end.

 I was 3 and he ignored me
