The Point of: "Tug-of-War"
Well, a new series is good for a young 14 UD year-old. So, let's hear your thoughts!
Mine:
Purpose of Tug-of-War??
None.
Is there a real point for tugging on a rope and trying to get a flag attached to it across a line? Honestly, why does it matter? It either shows two things: you are physically strong, or, you have a large body mass. I have neither, and found myself wondering why people like to do this idiotic whatever it is. You pull on a rope, it moves, wow. I have to say that being in high school for almost half a year, most people in this world aren't very bright.
Really, does it matter? Let's analyze this:
Let's start with disadvantages:
If you're a male, and you lose, you will probably be laughed at (sorry, not that much with females).
If you're a male, and you win or lose, you still get a bad burn on your hands.
If you're any gender, and you win or lose, you still get germs on your hands from the past million of people that have touched it before you have.
If you're any gender, and you win or lose, you will probably fall and hurt yourself.
Now if you add all that up your are a hurting, germ infested, hand-burned, freak, who can't pull a rope across a line.
Now the advantages:
Well there aren't many that are any significance except for being admired for like a 2 whole seconds for pulling a rope across a line marked on the gymnasium floor.
Well, I really don't see the point of Tug-of-War, and I don't see why anyone would.
What do you think?

I think you should loosen up and let yourself have fun. No offense, but it's just a game...play it or don't play it.
P.S.
I dig your avatar.

there's no real point in any sport, sweets. watching sweaty people run up and down a court bouncing an orange ball, watching men standing on a green golf course hitting a tiny ball really, really far... i dont get it. its purely for entertainment, but hey, i could take it or leave it.
rather leave it, but whatever.

Chiming in briefly before going back to reviewing...
Tug of War is symbolic of teamwork and unity. It takes a strong force of one to pull the rope in one direction, and having two groups of people pulling with all their might but with different strengths results in the flag tied to not move anywhere. The team learns that in order to control the direction, they must work as one, be one with each other, pull with the same amount of force, at the same time, to guide the rope.
Tug of war is abot that struggle between unity and individuality. It's very deep, man.

I hope you weren't offended by what I wrote, Sequel. I just went back and read it and it sounded way more harsh than I actually meant it to sound. I should have reworded it. Sorry dude!

The point of tug-of-war is to demonstrate Newton's Third Law and to buy your gym teacher a smoke break.
By the way, I like your avatar too; Mean Girls is one of my guilty pleasures. "Your" should really be "you're," though.

ah the point of tug of war, when I play, which is rarely it's usually so I can try as hard as I can, than when my opponent tries harder, I let go of the rope and laugh as he/she falls butt first in front of everyone else. So I guess when I play the point is to make the other person fall down and look silly

Oh yeah, it sounds very deep. It's just that there isn't any point to it. Does it matter if 1 person or 1,000 persons are pulling on a rope, just to win. All people want to do now adays (it that even a word?) is win. I don't see why you would want to win in a silly little game. The game itself is pointless, which I've already stated.Escapay wrote:that struggle between unity and individuality. It's very deep, man.
And, no, Prince Ali, it wasn't harsh. I guess I do kinda need to loosen up, but I actually had to play it. Something called "Gym Class" made me.

Tug of War is the title of an excellent Paul McCartney album. As for the game, well I haven't even had the opportunity to play for a long time. Never was really one of my favorites though.
My avatar is from Tony's Town Square Restaurant. What else would we do over a plate of spaghetti with meatballs?

Yes, but what is the point to it? Like I've said, it just proves that you are strong or big around the middle (no offense to anyone). If you want a game, trying something that will help you academically. You will (well should) use your brains more than your biceps (sp?).dvdjunkie wrote:What part of the word 'G A M E' do you not understand?
It is a game, like jump rope or hide and seek.
