Lion King changes?

Post by Jeikobu »

Ok, I know about the opening Disney logo, crocodile, and waterfall changes from the pictures in the review, but I really would like to see the comparison for the other changes, primarily the Mufasa clouds scene. Descriptions are good, but pictures are best, and maybe video. I'd appreciate some insight. Thanks.

BTW, I'm new here. Konban wa, minna-san (good evening, everyone). ^^

Hajimemashite. Watashi wa Jeikobu desu. Douzo yoroshiku ("nice to meet you" (literally more like "please think highly of me")). ^^

I took Japanese 1 this semester, and am taking 2 next semester. I had a good head start too, with what I'd learned from watching anime and from learning stuff on my own beforehand. ^^

Back on topic, I plan to buy the laser disc release to get the original version (laser disc players seem to go cheap online thankfully) (I'll keep the DVD though for more convenience in watching and for better quality, and besides the croc thing, I think the changes are good for what I've noticed, but I really want the unaltered original version, too), unless Disney gives us a new DVD release with the original version, which is very unlikely. Stupid Disney. Just leave it alone! Really though, I'm just thankfully that the changes weren't more excessive. It could've been a lot worse.

This may sound stupid, but have you tried googling this? I recall there was a website I had bookmarked, but my computer crashed and I lost the link, so I can't help you there.

I don't know if you even read the post, but the topic starter asked to see other images than the ones he already saw (the ones in your link).

Anyway, I think this is what you're searching for (it might be a different section of the scene, I'm not sure):

Ah, I see. So in the original, Mufasa appears much sooner as his clear self, but in the IMAX he doesn't at first (however, he still looks exactly like that first picture from the theatrical when he says "you are my son, and the one true king." *sobs at how incredibly amazing the scene is* :)).

I'm 50/50 on this one. All in all I think I like the change better, because in the IMAX we get a unique special view of Mufasa each time he's shown, and it makes the power of the original appearance of him much more powerful once it's shown. However, I'm still a major purist and like movies preserved in their original form.

It would've been ideal if Disney had simply put both versions on the DVD. They could've had it set up as:

-Special version featuring new song

-IMAX version

-Theatrical version

But what's past is past I guess. I still eventually plan to buy the laser disc to have the unaltered, original theatrical version. However, disregarding the purist in me, I much prefer all of the changes I've seen to this movie (minus the crocodiles and of course, Morning Report (but at least that can be avoided on the DVD (thank God!!))). I think the changes look a lot nicer, and work alot better for the movie. Never the less, Disney owed it to us to give us the unaltered theatrical version, too.
