I have to disagree with you disneylover2006 on your choice of putting Aladdin in with the best covers. The animation on Aladdin and Jasmine is awful looking. I do like the concept, but I just can't get past how terrible the two of them look. I would probably agree with the rest of your pics though.

I also dissagree. I don't feel like "Aladdin" had great cover art and the only bad cover art that I agree with is "Pocahontas." I think I would like that "Aladdin" artwork more if Aladdin was more on model, but something looks weird about him to me. I like the original VHS and Limited Issue cover art for "Hercules" MUCH better than the GC art and I thought the ME "Alice in Wonderland" was very well done and kept the Mary Blaire artistic style heavily used in the scene where Alice is lost after the mad tea party where she sings "Very Good Advice" and meets up with the Cheshire Cat again just before the "Painting the Roses Red" sequence (God I love "Alice in Wonderland"!).

Alice in wonderland, Snow White, Lion King, Sleeping Beauty thee best.

Mermaid - meh. Again, like the Cdn lithographs, I imagined it so differently then what i've got.
Ditto with Beauty and the Beast.

Worse...

I don't know. i like them all.

I like the colorfulness and the concept of "The Little Mermaid"s cover art (I like it when the majority of the main characters appear on the cover) however it does appear to be a bit cluttered, and I think the animation on Ursula (my favorite character) is awful.

Personally I like the Hercules LI cover! Are you saying you like the GC cover? Ugh! Just looking at it makes me cringe!

Worst covers: Any release that looks down on them as kid movies. AKA, pretty much every single US/Canada cover.

Best covers: Any release that treats these movies as the great adult fare they are. AKA, pretty much every international release, such as those gorgeous French and German covers.

The Little Mermaid PE: Many people argue that the cover is too cluttered (which it is cluttered) but the animation (with the exception of Ursula who I think looks awful) looks really great. Also, it is very colorful and very visually appealing.
That's one thing I've never understood about all the TLM artwork. Ursula's always drawn/colored wrong in one way or another. They either make her skin too dark, forget the mole/beauty mark, turn her earrings gold, change the color of her mascara, don't give her enough tentacles or make her too large. The one that really irritates me is the mascara bit. Why green?

As for my favorite covers, it would be the Hercules covers (they've all looked decent to me), the Pocahontas GC, Alice in Wonderland ME, Cinderella PE, and TLK PE. I also like the Snow White PE cover, although many people seem to hate it for some reason. Bambi had a nice cover as well, though it seemed to have a bit too much of a "kiddy" feeling for some reason.

The worst, in my opinion, are LatT PE (the VHS covers were beautiful though), Sleeping Beauty SE, Pocahontas ME, TLM LI (Ursula looks so ugly on this) and Aladdin PE (I hated the original VHS release cover, too, and they're very much alike).

I love The Little Mermaid's coverart on the VHS tape. I like the PE TLM but not as much. And the LI LTM was ok. I bought the PE TLM and I wished that they had the castle in it, either one.

The worst covers, if you ask me, are easily those used for the Hercules and Hunchback of Notre Dame Gold Collections. Characters are drawn horribly off-model in both cases (and, in the case of Hercules, I have no idea why Pain and Panic are depicted hanging out with the good guys, like they're all buddies or something).

The Oliver and Company cover, with Jenny holding Oliver and Dodger standing in the background, also seems kinda dull, particularly when compared to the previous promotional posters and VHS covers for the film, which generally featured Oliver riding a cab with all his canine buddies around him. I would have much preferred them to go with something to that effect. They had more colour, detail and character about them, and I really hope that come 2008, IF the film should receive a 20th anniversary edition, they'll return to a cover of that nature.

I've said it before, but as things go, I feel that the Gold Collection covers have been largely inferior to their VHS counterparts. There's something about the GC art which strikes me as so perfunctory that I just wished they'd reused the original VHS designs, particularly in the case of Oliver. I love the version we had here in Europe:

When I bought this video (the UK Version) in 1997, I couldn't get over how golden and shiny Oliver's name tag was. :float:

Worst covers:

<a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n71/ ... SS500_.jpg" border="0" alt="Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket"></a>

Aurora and Phillip are completely off model

<a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n71/ ... SS500_.jpg" border="0" alt="Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket"></a>

Region 2 dvd cover is basically the same as the old VHS but alot more bland.

The best covers:

<a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n71/ ... SS500_.jpg" border="0" alt="Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket"></a>

<a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n71/ ... SS500_.jpg" border="0" alt="Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket"></a>

this is the best dvd cover that was available in the UK!

<a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n71/ ... 2af05a.jpg" border="0" alt="Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket"></a>

Let's see:
Best:
The Little Mermaid PE,Snow White PE,The Lion King PE and Cinderella PE.
Worse:
Sleeping Beauty 2003 Edition (Aurora and Philip are ugly and they should show Aurora and Philip dancing or at least all the character under sleeping Aurora),Aladdin PE (Aladdin and Jasmine were off model, and it's look exectly like the old cover, only with Abu almost felling),Bambi PE (Just.. ugly) and Cars.

WORST

Image

One of the weaker Pixar films gets a really weak cover art.

Image

Hercules appears TWICE on the cover art, and its just ugly.

Image

Very busy and uninteresting.

BEST

Image

The best Platinum Edition DVD deserves the one of the best cover arts.

Image

Very nice and not too busy.
