Should Disney create a new channel?
I was thinking about the Disney Channel and how it has pretty much forsaken it's roots and what the Disney Channel used to be. I was wondering if others out there think Disney should create a third channel that they could call it Disney Classic or DTV Classic? It would be great if they had a channel that would cater to a wider audience and play more things from their vast archives for the viewers to enjoy. There are so many fans, like myself, who are baby boomers and a good deal of profit could be gained a channel that catered to the nostalgic. I would watch it. In our house the Disney Channel doesn't even get tuned in because there is nothing on it for us to watch. I would watch it if they would even show things like Zorro, Rescue Rangers, Darkwing Duck, Tailspin etc. but they don't anymore and by the looks of things they have no intention to do so. I miss the old days of Disney programming.
So what do you think?

I think it's a great idea, but I don't see it happening. Personally, I think they should make a Vault Disney channel. They used to show Vault Disney late at night with shows like The Mickey Mouse Club and other classic Disney programs. Oh, how I miss those days.

Some of the so-called "crap" on current Disney Channel is pretty entertaining, but if you compare it to the original Disney Channel I grew up with... Well, oldschool Disney Channel was the best channel ever to exist on television anywhere!!!! It would be great if they would start up a Vault Disney Channel, but I guess it wasn't working out for them the first time, was it? Unless they had other reasons for changing everything so drastically. Of course, I don't have digital cable or anything else special, just old-school expanded basic cable. I probably wouldn't get a Vault Disney Channel, just like I don't get Toon Disney.

Yes the Disney Channel is pretty much garbage nowadays. I think they should bring back The Disney Afternoon except this time call it The Double Disney Afternoon and show an hour of each show! Also they could show stuff like Ducktales Treasure Chest and TaleSpin Treasure Chest that with each show there could be a three hour block (6 episodes).
They could also do the same for all the other Disney Afternoon shows.
Also since Disney owns ABC they could bring back the classic inoffensive ABC sitcoms such as Full House, Family Matters, Home Improvement, Step By Step, and Growing Pains. I don't like all of ABC's sitcoms but they could really pull out a bunch of them from the vault. Just the Ten of Us is one of thsoe shows that could be brought back along with TGIF. They could also show all the old Disney toons such as Mickey, Donald, Pluto etc. They have all kinds of classic Disney programming that could have five times as many programs as the loser Disney Channel and just as bad Toon Disney!!!

Disney already has a second channel...it's called ABC Family. And it makes me wanna barf all the time (except for Extreme Makeover: Home Edition)
As for the idea of a Vault Disney channel, it has merit but I think it will only be on satellite tv, meaning you can forget it being on basic cable. In fact I wouldnt be surprised if Toon Disney upgraded to basic cable television considering.

Maybe someone could start a petition? I'm sick of waiting for this to come. I love the Disneyland TV show and it is near impossible to ever have them all released on DVD and right now, there is no outlet to see them. I feel that Disney is doing a disservice to it's loyal fans who love the Walt era more than the current era. They should at least acknowledge their television roots. So who's gonna start a petition and where do I sign?

In a meeting with Disney Channel executives I brought up the fact that I loved Vault Disney and wished it was still on. They said that they all liked it, too, but that the ratings were dreadful. Very, very few people watched it and so they had to stop airring Vault Disney.Prince Ali wrote:I think it's a great idea, but I don't see it happening. When a subject like this is discussed on a fan forum a lot of people respond favorably. It makes a Vault Disney Channel seem like a viable idea. That people are clammoring for it. But in the real world, most people wouldn't watch a two hour block of Vault Disney, let alone a whole channel. It's too bad, but it's the truth.
The things that people here don't seem to like about the Disney Channel (constant reruns of That's So Raven, The Suite Life, and Hannah Montanna) have made it a very successful and highly rated network. It might not be what the die hard fans want, but it seems to very much be what the general public wants. And so that's the path Disney will stay on until things change.
It's too bad, I miss Vault Disney.

I would be interested in subscribing to such a channel if it were made available. I watched Vault Disney when it still aired and loved seeing some of the made for TV "Wonderful World of Disney" movies that I remembered fondly from my childhood.
But, I also can see why Disney won't do it. My sons are 10 and 6, and they absolutely love The Suite Life of Zach & Cody, Hannah Montana, and That's So Raven. They have no interest in the old stuff. I wonder if Disney would consider airing Vault Disney once a week so we "older" people could watch?

I think it would be cool if Disney created another channel. I would want the channel to play cool cartoons like "Chip and Dale: Rescue Rangers", "Duck Tales", "Tale Spin" and more. They could also play the other Disney shows spun from movies as well like "The Little Mermaid", "Aladdin", "Timon and Pumbaa", and "Hercules" ect. I also think it would be great if this Disney channel actually played some Disney movies. Call me crazy but playing Disney movies on the Disney channel seems like a pretty good idea to me. I think it is silly that the Disney channel we have now VERY RARELY plays a Disney movie.

I also agree that creating a new disney channel would be great. I do miss the old disney channel where it was mostly movies. I also like some of the new programs that the disney channel plays. They are very enteratining. I agree that they should bring back the friday moveis, those were great. I guess we just have to wait and see.
I have regular cable at home, so we only get the regular disney channel, and at college we don't even get disney. I don't really understand toon-disney because it seems that they play the same thing that is on the disney channel.

Yeah I really miss Vault Disney as well. MMC and Zorro HOW GREAT!!!! If another channel is out of the picture as of now, how about pulling an "adult swim"? I mean cartoon network has tons of kid-type shows that air durring the day but after 10 or so they change gears and target a whole different audience. I know this is kind what Vault Disney was like but it could be sooooo much better. Disney channel could have the classic shows from the early days as well as movies and shows from the early disney channel days and Toon Disney has tons of shows that could pop up at night as opposed to Those Jetex reruns. Toon disney needs to air lots more older disney shows NOT on disney channel, that was what I loved in the beginning they were all about old school. Still love you Disney, but please do something for the older generation.

When Disney can get people to pay $30+ for Zorro or MMC or somesuch I don't see the incentive to add another cable/pay channel.
Look at NFL Network - they are having a hard time getting market penetration on many traditional cable systems because the cable companies don't want to cut into their profit margins and/or raise cable rates even higher.
The dish companies might add it to their premium packages if there were one, or offer it as a fee-based, a la carte add-on to a package, but the cable companies would just say there was not great viewer demand and not buy the feed from Disney...

Yet, Disney can air ESPN Classics, and I doubt even quite a lot of sports fans are really that interested in watching bunch of classic sports material.Bill Freiberger wrote:In a meeting with Disney Channel executives I brought up the fact that I loved Vault Disney and wished it was still on. I really don't see why they can't have "Vault Disney" of "Disney Classics" which can be like Toon Disney which you pay extra for. They couldn't possibly loss much if they at least tried it. It's an idea many keep requesting so it'd be worth it. I would consider purchasing such a station as it'd be the only television station I'd watch anymore(:D).
Unfortunately, Disney can't even give us that. Shame as I rarely watch that stupid teen stuff.

I like the idea of a new Disney Channel. I would like to see a Retro Toon Disney Channel that shows stuff like TaleSpin, DuckTales, and Classic Disney Movies. However what worries me is that Disney would ruin in it in a matter of 3 years by adding "new" junk like Kim Possible and The Proud Family, or worse *GULP* Anime

Thinking Cable or Sat is probably behind the curve by now.
The new thing is on demand or a pure online channel. THAT I could see, although it would be less than desirible if it was only limited rather than recordable. Imagine a huge WD library that you could pick and choose from!

I too still mourn the loss of Vault Disney. I think it would do a little bit better today than when it ran (late 90s?) thanks to renewed interest in the classic Disney films and TV properties due to DVD... but not nearly enough to be part of a line-up, or a whole new channel.
However, more realistic I think would be some sort of Vault Disney web venture somewhere down the line, where these programs can be watched online. I'd be all over that...

I'd love to see a "Classic Disney" or "Vault Disney" channel. It would have Mickey Mouse Club, Winnie the Pooh, Dumbo's Circus.......and NO Doodlebops!
My 7 year old niece watches Disney a LOT. I'd love for her to see classic disney shows like Disney USED to have.
Toon Disney isn't Toon 'Disney' anymore.

Disney Channel died when they stopped airing movies with Haley mills (Parent Trap and Pollyanna) and fun adventure movies like Swiss Family Robinson. R.I.P. the REAL Disney Channel. Date of Death: When the shows became teenie bopperish.
