Peter Pan: Platinum Edition DVD Press Release and Discussion

Yay! I'm really glad to see this included! There doesn't seem to be a new documentary, afterall (which means the Faith, Trust, and Pixie Dust title must've been Germany's title for the You Can Fly featurette). That doesn't bother me, though, because everything else looks excellent. I'm also glad that the new John Canemaker commentary will be on this, afterall, but I still can't help but be peeved that Disney took the time to create a new commentary for this when it already had one and not one for Cinderella. I can understand Alice not getting one, but you'd think Cinderella of all films would be deemed highly enough to merit a commentary track. Still, this looks to be an exellent release. Let's keep our fingers crossed that Pinocchio gets similar treatment in 2008.

Also, what's up with the making-of? Is it just that little 15 minute thing, or are they expanding it? I mean I would assume, but everyone knows what happens when you assume something.

God I hope so. Otherwise it'd be the most disappointing documentary on a Platinum title since the chopped up and scattered across the winds featurettes we got for The Lion King.

As I've saide before, I'd really like to see them edit the outtakes used for the original commentary into the main featurette. That way, we have the best of both worlds: fans of the old commentary won't lose the remarks, and the documentary will stand up nicely alongside other Platinum ones. I'd also like to see them do this with Sleeping Beauty's Platinum (its SE's commentary is also just featurette outtakes). Unfortunately, I fear Disney will be too lazy to do this with either, but there's always hope.

One of my favorite websites, Duckfilm.de, explains all about Disney releases, theatrically and otherwise, in Germany. However, it's only in German; English is at a minimum here!
