Please help...My Disney DVDs were stolen.

Post by 2manydvds »

Hello. Recently my house was robbed of about 300 DVDs including half of my Disney animated DVDs. I actually found some of them at a pawn shop and re-purchased them because the police aren't able to do anything about it. But I had every animated film and sequel including some of the original Limited Issue and out-of-print Collector's Editions. Now I would like to replace them but ebay and Amazon are full of bootlegs and I'm very reluctant to purchase from them. Here is a list of what was taken...If anyone has these for sale at a reasonable price please let me know. I can't afford to spend a bundle on them but I want them back so badly. I can't tell you how many times I've cried over it. Some I have replaced already and those are in red. Thank you. Oh, and I even have a brand-new sealed copy of SLEEPING BEAUTY (with slipcover) for the right trade.

 Oh i am so sorry you were a victim They can see it is a collection & know the effort put into that & the pleasure it gives you. It makes you cry now, but it will get better with time the same as any loss. Any hard to get r1 Disney dvds may still be available on r2, if you have a multi region player. If i can help in uk (r2) let me know. Its a shame to meet under these circumstances but welcome to the forum.
They've found it, they've found Noah's ark, & other stuff!

I'm so sorry to hear this. What a horrible loss!

It sounds like the work of drug addicts - go to local used DVD sellers and alert them. I hate to say this, but perhaps you will be able to buy them back if you go to the local DVD stores and spot them there.

Man that just sucks. Did home-owner's insurance not cover the stolen merchandise?

No, we didn't have renter's insurance. Had discussed it for years but always had other bills to pay and forgot about it. Now we do, but I'm sure at this point it's like throwing water on a doused fire.

Thank you. I actually do have a region-free DVD player, but I've never been able to find a quality one. The one I have has these terrible glitches in it that make watching a movie on it unbearable. As a last resort I would purchase R2 but I'd like to see if I can find them here first.

I dont know if the policy is nation wide, but I know that record stores and pawn shops around Seattle require ID from the "seller" so that they can track stolen CDs and DVDs. Like I said - I dont know if this is local or not, but it might be worth following up at the pawn shop.

They do the same here, however they don't record the titles of DVDs they take in, only the quantity. So there is no way to prove which DVDs were brought in by which person. I took a list of my stolen DVDs around to every store and pawn shop I could think of. Most of the pawn shops were completely unwilling to help me out. I mean, c'mon, this is how they make their living and somehow it's legal. The stores were better, but even so, everyone was looking for a collection of 265 DVDs. Nobody thought to compare smaller collections to my list. Nobody ever wants to help out unless there's something in it for them.

Still searching for DVDs?

Hi, Sorry to hear about your loss. If you're still looking to replace any of your DVDs, right now I at least have all three Lion Kings. My eBay user ID is two-oaks so you can use that for a reference. I actively work with Disney's piracy/legal dept so I fully understand your comment about all the bootlegs & Asian imports floating around.

Thanks everyone for your help and concern. As you can see, I've almost been able to replace all my DVDs (the Disney ones anyway). Of course I wasn't able to find many of them in the same condition I had them in before, and I had to settle for slipcover-less copies on many. And then there's THE JUNGLE BOOK...but it will be re-released in just ONE YEAR. Hope I can make it. But it wasn't as bad (or expensive) as I imagined. Well, excuse me now while I go juice up my new electric fence that surrounds my DVDs....LOL. Take care.

I'm glad you were able to replace most of your Disney DVDs. Don't worry about the slipcovers. After all, they are just worthless pieces of cardboard. But if you REALLY want to get slipcovers for your slipcover-less Disney DVDs, call

1-800-723-4763
(1-800-723-DISNE)

They will be able to send you free replacement slipcovers (you can only order up to 4 slipcovers to one address/person), but hey, hope it helps! Keep your chin up, and Happy Holidays! :santa:
