I do a lot of my shopping on Amazon. I always spend enough to get the free shipping on my orders. I would be all for spending my money locally, but there is no selection where I live. There are no bookstores, Bestbuys, Circuit Citys, Targets, or Sams Clubs where I Live. The only shopping choices I have locally are Walmart or Kmart, and they are always higher on price here than at other parts of the country. I have noticed several times someone will post a Walmart price in the new dvd thread that is at $5.00 cheaper than my Walmart.

Orders as opposed to items? Items would be a much higher number, as I used to group them.
1999 - 8
2000 - 8
2001 - 10
2002 - 3 (seem hard to believe)
2003 - 11
2004 - 27
2005 - 16
2006 - 17
Seems smaller than I would have suspected actually...
My Disney Legacy set still hasn't shipped, despite them all being in stock. Grrrr...

I've been pretty consistent and while this year looks like it's behind the previous years, I've got a lot of Amazon ordering to do from now through Christmas. Last year, I had only 8 orders placed before December and I still ended up setting a personal record (with a little help from an Amazon Prime trial and Secret Santa deadbeats). May break that this year - it remains to be seen.

I am sorry also that you had trouble with online shopping. But I find it much more dangerous to shop in an actual store. The only time I had my credit cards stolen was when I was in a store shopping and someone grabbed my purse. Also, store clerks have been known to memorize the numbers and then sell them for profit. Plus you have the added risk and expense of driving to the store and dealing with crowds. Don't get me wrong - I'm still in Target every Tuesday on DVD release day....but I do the majority of my shopping online. I get free shipping almost every time.Ktrek wrote:You are right that the Internet may not be totally secure but encryption security since 1998 has vastly improved. I have been using online shopping and bank accounting for about 5 years and never once have had a problem. You say for us to think about all the money you are saving but actually I probably save more by shopping online. Many DVD stores offer FREE shipping and also everyday discounts much lower than BestBuy. Walmart often has lower prices but with the cost of gas these days you may actually be spending more on gas than another person has spent on shipping, not to mention time, and for me time is money. Especially if multiple orders are involved. I'm not saying at all that steps should not be taken to ensure security when making online transactions and you should just trust because that would be foolish. I always mostly try and use PayPal when I can. I have a separate PayPal account with very little money in it at any one time just in case. In four years of doing business with Amazon I have never had a problem with them nor do I personally know anyone who has. Anyway, I don't want to discredit what your experience has been but only to say that my experience has been nothing but positive.dvdjunkie wrote:1998 - 1
And then they screwed me over and somehow my number got out and I ended up with over $5,000 in charges and my credit got royally screwed.
Think of all the money I am saving not having to pay shipping and handling or credit card charges, or interest.
You can do what you want with your (or your parent's) credit card, but don't be surprised if something bad happens. It only has to happen once for you to have your eyes opened to the falsehood of the Internet being "totally secure".

I work in HR, and we have only a handful of people who still don't use direct deposit. Yep - those are the ones who are mad at me when their live checks get lost in the mail. Rarely does an error occur with direct deposit, and if it did it gets cleared up quickly.

It's kinda funny, but I have only made 2 or 3 orders off Amazon.com for myself, and a few for other people, over MANY years. I prefer to buy things in stores, so I can return them or whatever, and especially so I can pick them out myself and see how they look. I am sick of getting things in the mail (even from Amazon) in terrible condition. Books/comics that are roughed up, discs that have come loose and gotten scratched, etc...
The funny part though, is that despite all that, I have done TONS of reviews on Amazon.com and lots of lists and a couple of guides, too! I've been very busy lately (especially this week), but in those times of the year when I have a little more time, I spend a lot of it on Amazon.com!
