Checklists

Post by Bill Freiberger »

Does anyone know of any good, printable checklists of Disney animation? I'd like to find a checklist that lists all the animated features and includes the various versions of the film that have been released (standard DVD, Deluxe DVD, Laser Disc, VHS, etc.). I'd also love a check list of the animated shorts that tells you which DVD, Laser Disc, VHS the short has appeared on so I can see which shorts I have and which I still need. Also, which are complete and which are missing footage.

Does anything like this exist?

To get the kind of list you want, I think you're going to have to use Microsoft Word, but all of the information you are looking for can be found right here on ultimatedisney.com. On the home page on the left side, there is a list, the first of which is animated features. http://www.ultimatedisney.com/ultimateclassics.htm You can copy and paste the list which gives you titles in order and their various DVD releases, not VHS, though. You could use a program like Microsoft Word to add boxes to each title to make it into a checklist. As for the shorts, someone on here created a list of all of the shorts made in chronological order and what DVDs they could be found on, but I can't find it. It used to be stickeyed and has been removed, but I'm sure someone else will know and come along and post it soon after I post this.

We're working on a complete shorts index for unveiling in the near-future, but it will only make note of DVD availability, which is a challenge enough with all the appearances some shorts have made on the format.

There's also the printer-friendly checklist we have for the Animated Classics here:
http://www.ultimatedisney.com/checklist.htm

(It probably needs a few updates, and again only covers DVDs.)

The animated features check list is just what I was looking for. I can't wait for the animated shorts checklist to be done.

Yes, Luke, how is the most excellent guide to animated shorts coming?

Would you like me to do an aupdate of my list for recent DVD releases or have you played with the lists to put it in the right format?

Anxiously awaiting(with patience and understanding),

Mr. Toad.

Mr. Toad will now try to work on convincing Luke why it would not be a bad idea to do the Looney Toon shorts here as well.

Well, we probably won't see it until January at the earliest, based on how just about every waking moment before then is going to the blitz of DVDs that need to be reviewed. But the beginning-of-the-year slowness should enable me to catch up on that, or at least introduced it in parts (the entire index will be broken into five or six pages). Aaron's also been working on another elaborate index that fans of the parks should appreciate.

I'm looking forward to the checklist of animated shorts. A while back, I copied a list of the animated shorts from a book I had. Unfortunately, it wasn't formatted to be a checklist so there wasn't a lot of room to make notations of where I had the cartoon. This was before so many great DVDs had come out. Many of the cartoons that I had were on VHS copies of "Ink and Paint Club" so I needed to note not only I&PC but which tape and where on the tape. It became very messy and hard to read and I eventually gave up. With your help, this will be my chance to get it right.

Well, I've mentioned it before, but just in case someone's missed it:

I've maintained a cross reference of Disney shorts for a couple of years now:
http://disneyania.tonakaistudio.com/fil ... filmer.htm

While it's mainly intended for the Swedish audience, I think it might also be of some use to international guests. Please refer to this thread for an explanation in English and a legend of the footnotes:

Anders,

That is a great resource. It's almost exactly what I was looking for. Is there a downloadable version available that I can print out and use as a check list? I'd love to be able to remove the non-USA dvd titles from the list to make it more managable for my use.

Bill,

I'm glad you found my page useful!

There's no special download-version, but I really don't see why you would need one? You can easily save a copy of the on-line version on your hard drive. Most web browsers will let you do that. Then you can go ahead and edit it as much as you like.

I thought that cutting and pasting the chart would cause me to lose all the formatting. But it didn't. I was able to keep the grid in tact. I spent many hours yesterday removing the non-USA releases and then checking off the cartoons I had. With the Walt Disney Treasures line, collectors will soon have ALL the cartoons! It's incredible. Since I'm not interested in the stuff before Steamboat Willie or any of the live action shorts, I'll only need a bunch of Donald cartoons to complete my entire collection (I know I'll buy the Pluto set from the next wave, so I'm already counting on them). It's incredible. I'm going to check my Laser Disc and video collections for the few Donald's that aren't out on DVD...yet.

Now I need to find an alphabetical list of the shorts with the dates that I can use as an index -- look up the short, find the date, go to your checklist, see if I have it, find out where it is and enjoy.

Thanks so much for your checklist.

Your pal,
Bill

So, is there a similar resource for the WB Looney Tunes shorts?

:)

I understand there was around 1000 of these produced, and at the current WB release rate we're getting around 60 released a year.

Thanks for the link to the WB checklist. I've seen that one before. The kind of checklist I was talking about (like the one Anders provided for the Disney shorts) not only lists the shorts themselves, but also includes what dvds those shorts are on.

I don't know if this would be of any use for you, but there's a website I like called www.listsofbests.com where you can create lists of whatever you want very easily. I made two lists of Disney stuff that interests me:

- DACs
- Walt Disney Treasures
(Both lists are very much based on UD lists, but with pictures added and the checklist function, I find it more practical.)

The problem is that it is not really made for things that are not products - I don't know how we could make a shorts list. But anyway, I thought I'd mention it!

not if you count ones included in the bonus features of their classic film dvds.

many included on thesedisc probably won't appear in a gold collection any time soon, either
