Walt Disney Legacy Collection / True Life Adventures on DVD!
The line wasn't very long at all - although the store was VERY busy. I imagine it's packed there every Tuesday, especially at lunch time, and especially on a big release day such as today (Pirates 2, SNL, etc...)DisneyDVDFAN wrote:So coolstreeter wrote:Well, I went to the Roy Disney signing at 12:30 (on my lunchbreak). It was really cool to meet him. He was running late and seemed kind of tired, but he was very friendly.
I bought TLA sets 1 & 3 for him to sign - I'll have to put the other two on my Christmas list.
I asked him about People & Places, and he said that those should be coming out - no date, though, but he said that they're important to get out there just like the TLAs.
I then asked him about Destino and what's going to be on the DVD in addition to the short. He said 2 things: A documentary about Dali & Disney, and a documentary about the making of the film. So, that should be pretty cool. I don't have a camera so I didn't get a picture, but there was a photographer there who took pictures of Roy.haven't heard from my friend yet

I planned to take an extra half hour of lunch to get over to Best Buy, but that didn't work out well.
One BB I called around 10AM said the TLAs hadn't arrived yet.
I called another BB, and they put one of each volume on hold for me.

Well, I'm in the middle on the packaging. Looks gorgeous, but I'm worried about the durability. Would have prefered a metal tin cover instead of the see through, I can see the gorgeous inside when I open it, I don't need to, or can in fact see it when it's on the shelf. And the film reel idea is cool, but the disks are on cardboard once you open the tin, that won't last long even if you're careful.

You're wellcom. They are not mine though. LOL!Mr. Toad wrote:Thanks for the reviews James.
Now I am totally, totally hyped.
They are done by the people on that site.
I wish I had the patience and could write reviews like that, or even better like Luke's, but I don't. I am really good at watching the DVDs though. LOL!
As for the packaging that a few people have mentioned, I don't see breakage being a problem (unless you sit or step on it) but the plastic getting scrathed might be. Just have to be extra careful handling them.

At lunch I checked at Best Buy, Wal-Mart, and Costco for these, but came up empty. The guy at Best Buy said they have 3 of each coming in, but didn't say when. I did see a spot on the shelf at Wal-Mart for one set, but it was empty. Don't know about the other 3 sets. Has anyone seen these at Costco. With Pirates and 24 also out today, maybe they got overlooked and are sitting in a box somewhere beneath the table. Has Anyone else had problems finding copies at local retailers?

Wow... I wish I could meet Roy E. Disney again... just one more time. I wonder if he remembers me? I remember that he told my family that his dad Roy O Disney and his Uncle Walt Disney got frustrated and were fighting over a bussiness deal. Anyway Walt on one of his travels found a Peace Pipe and gave it to Roy O. Disney his brother, and said something about that they are family first and bussiness partners second and that Walt Said to Roy O. Disney that we need to make ammends. That peace pipe got handed down from Roy O DIsney to Roy E Disney.
He also said how great of a storyteller Walt was. How the way when he was telling Roy one night the story of Pinocchio how in a way it sounded a lot more interesting the way his Unlce Walt described it to him vs as to how it looked on the big screen debut.
Somewhere I have his autograph on a book. If You look at my avatar the book Roy E Disney is presenting to me in my avatar... That is the book he gave to me and even signed.
I also on my trip before heading home accidentally met Spencer Breslin after he just got done working on The Cat in the Hat Movie.
So I sure hope that you hear back from your friend soon as I hear it is not too often people can get Roy E Disney's Autograph. Mine was arranged through Make a Wish Foundation.
Anyway back to the topic... What were the Sneak Previews on the discs of the True Life Adventure discs? Anything New??

Ditto. The bottow half is tin. I am not sure how you would break the hard plastic unless you were totally intending on mistreating them.darth_deetoo wrote:I'm really quite perplexed as to what some people intend to do with the packaging on their discs???Eeyore wrote:And the film reel idea is cool, but the disks are on cardboard once you open the tin, that won't last long even if you're careful.

First of all, let me say, "Disney, thank you for releasing these on DVD! And thanks for the special attention you've placed on the True Life Adventure series."
I don't have many memories of seeing these films: any I would have seen would have been on "The Wonderful World of Disney" in the '70s. I think I only remember the kangaroo rat, croaking frogs, and time-lapse flowers blooming. In other words, hardly any worthwhile recollection!
Now, why did I buy these? Because, after reading two biographies on Walt, I can begin to appreciate the value of these pieces. And I really look forward to watching this collection!
I do like the packaging... the overall case, and its display of the contents, and the "film cannister." While I wasn't initially impressed with the DVD attachment scheme, I can appreciate the whole psychology of it all: taking great care to get the DVDs out to watch a part of a "collection of Walt's legacy of works."
One disappointing part to this was finding the collectible piece was the folded map. I don't consider it anything special, and those assembling the package may not have either.... I think all four of my maps had bent corners. To me, a collectible piece would have been a Treasures-style postcard: perhaps miniature reproduction of a True Life movie poster or a still photograph.
But, overall, I'm glad to have this great collection! Now to sit back and watch it all!!

Have you opened them and looked inside? Some of us intend to *play* the dvd's, not just look at them.darth_deetoo wrote: I'm really quite perplexed as to what some people intend to do with the packaging on their discs???

The disks are mounted on *cardboard*, with a just little tiny plastic hub glued on. How long do you think that little plastic bit is going to stay attached as you pull the disk off it over and over? And once that happens, the dvds will simply be floating around in the circular tin, and getting scratched.
The disk mounts should have been solid formed plastic, like a keep case.

Disc 1 opens with a trailer for the Walt Disney's Legacy Collection (2:23), which features Roy E. Disney discussing future releases such as Oswald the Lucky Rabbit and Destino, then concluding with an overview of the True-Life Adventures. On the Main Menu, the "Sneak Peeks" option doesn't go to an index page with other trailers, but plays a lengthy trailer for Disney's Animal Kingdom (6:10). It gives a nice overview of the park, focusing on some of their grand attractions and shows, as well as featuring a few interview clips.

OK I am going to echo what has already been mentioned by some and say, to all those of you who are complaining about the durability of the packaging, what the hell do you do to your DVDs? I was expecting a really flimsy bit of plastic and it isn't. The only way the plastic is going to get damaged is if you take a sharp implement to it or lay it in the path of a stampeding rhino!
The discs aren't held that tightly to the card, all it takes is a squeeze to loosen them, there's no need to pull at it!
Likewise for those of you worried about you child wrecking it, I'm sorry but are they the Hulk?
And for the record the back half of the tin is actually thicker and sturdier than the normal Treasures tin.
Anyway they look absolutely gorgeous. Normally I don't care about packaging and am more interested in content, but these look simply sublime! If Disney wants to keep making DVDs with packaging like this it's fine by me!

Yes, of course I've opened them and intend to play them. I'm busy studying for exams at the moment so I haven't been able to spend alot of time on them, short of a quick look at disc 1 of set 1.
The card separators with the plastic hubs seem entirely adequate to me. The discs are not gripped that tightly on the hubs, and unless you mistreat them, they are not going to be easily damaged.
All I can surmise from some of the comments on this thread is that some people are very heavy handed.
I accept that some kids might not be too careful (although I think that's a failing of the parents - I was always taught to respect things as I grew up, and taught to look after them). As I've said before, if that's such an issue for you, buy some cheap keepcases (you can buy cheap double disc cases very easily), make an inlay and store them separately to the tins for the kids. I would have said the Treasures tins are just as easy to get damaged by kids as these, it's so easy to drop a tin and end up with a dint in it through mishandling, so what's the big deal???
