How Many Amazon.com Orders Have You Made Over The Years?

Clearly, my Amazon activity has grown over the years (I'm surprised to see by just how much).

I don't really know why I ordered so much in 2003. Perhaps I was unable to find many things online at the time but now there are more choices.

I believe somewhere between 6-8. The first was at the end of 2005 when I ordered The Lion King 2, and 1 1/2. (My first online purchase!) And the rest were made in 2006.

For some reason, my Amazon.com refuses to go back beyond Winter 2003, and it doesn't even have all the orders I made in 2003. So, for what it does have, here we go:

Part of the story:

The number has gone down lately since I've placed more orders elsewhere over the past few years.

My first few orders from 98-99 were quite large - $300-500 worth of books.

And then they screwed me over and somehow my number got out and I ended up with over $5,000 in charges and my credit got royally screwed.

That is why I always say, don't put your credit card number on the internet, because no matter how secure it may be there is always a way for it to get in the wrong hands.

It took almost five years for everything to get cleared up, and I vowed never again to use a credit card on line, and in fact, I have never applied for a replacement card, and I pay cash for everything. Think of all the money I am saving not having to pay shipping and handling or credit card charges, or interest.

You can do what you want with your (or your parent's) credit card, but don't be surprised if something bad happens. It only has to happen once for you to have your eyes opened to the falsehood of the internet being "totally secure".

None. Ususally (no matter how cheap it may be on Amazon), I buy things in the store. A few of the reasons being are:
1.) I don't have my own credit card yet (I'm a minor.
2.) If it's a DVD or CD, I will just get it new (or used) in the store. I will choose the quickest, cheapest way. I'd rather get it for $14.99 today rather than new for $9.99 on Amazon and wait a week for it (by the time s/h and all that other crap comes around, it's gonna be about the same anyways.)

You are right that the Internet may not be totally secure but encryption security since 1998 has vastly improved. I have been using online shopping and bank accounting for about 5 years and never once have had a problem. You say for us to think about all the money you are saving but actually I probably save more by shopping online. Many DVD stores offer FREE shipping and also everyday discounts much lower than BestBuy. Walmart often has lower prices but with the cost of gas these days you may actually be spending more on gas than another person has spent on shipping, not to mention time, and for me time is money. Especially if multiple orders are involved. I'm not saying at all that steps should not be taken to ensure security when making online transactions and you should just trust because that would be foolish. I always mostly try and use PayPal when I can. I have a separate PayPal account with very little money in it at any one time just in case. In four years of doing business with Amazon I have never had a problem with them nor do I personally know anyone who has. Anyway, I don't want to discredit what your experience has been but only to say that my experience has been nothing but positive.

I use a "card", although it's not a "credit card". "Bad things" can still happen, and it did a couple a times. I notified the bank/visa and the money was back within a few days. No big deal.

This is the way to shop online. Buying everything in a "real" store is hardly an option from my point of view - I simply won't find all I want there. I could save money that way, though - since I'd buy a lot less...

The internet is not "totally secure". But what is?

2004 doesn't exactly count because those 5 items were under my mother's credit card. I didn't get my own until summer of '05. My local FYE has been disappointing me lately. They hardly carry new catalogue releases anymore, and their prices have gone ridiculously up. Normally I go to Best Buy to buy catalogue titles, but even they have been disappointing me, too (the clerk had no idea what It's A Wonderful Life was... ) I think my 2007 number for Amazon will be dramatically higher than 2006. I plan on just ordering all of my catalogue titles from Amazon and only going to FYE for new releases (or really really big catalogues like the Disney Platinums).

I have placed roughly 1200 orders with Amazon over the years. My card # did get boosted,and the way I fixed the problem was to get a card that was used exclusivly for on-line orders. That way if it gets boosted, I have very little to change and it won't effect anything in my daily life. I would highly recommend doing this.
