pleasurebay wrote:The packaging is very substandard, there is a very cheap plastic cover on the box which is a grade like all the clear packaging that most products come in today that has to be cut off to get at the product. The cover will not last. The menu is stored under the insert which holds the disc container so to look at the menus you have to remove the insert. I agree that the packaging is unique but it was put together very poorly.
Well, if you're going to sling your discs around and not take care of them.... I think the packaging is great.

Well darth_deetoo I guess you are easily pleased.

As I own a Disney DVD collection that numbers about 300 I take great care and pride with them, but when you have kids who like to watch the movies it is very difficult to monitor their every move.

The packaging looks nice and the reel cans are neat but having spent $100 dollars on these 4 items I just think they could have done a better job than the flimsey plastic

Well there were no certificates of authenticity or limited printing run. And they're not marketed as being "for a limited time" the way Treasures and Platinum titles are. So I'd guess they'll be in print until Disney says, "Okay, we need a rise in their sales, we're taking them out of print in a few months!"

Well, as a child, I was always taught the value of objects, and was taught to take care of things. I agree this isn't the most durable set where kids are involved, but I don't think alot of kids today would be that interested in them anyway.

If you are really so concerned, then get a cheap replacement case, stick the discs in said case, and your problems are answered.

And I find the insinuation that my standards are low to be a bit insulting.

I won't leave my DVDs to kids anyway, so as long as the packaging will survive in my hands I'm sure I can live with it.

Mine shipped on December 4th... Of Course I had 2 day shipping just because I am not that patient when it comes to getting my movies. Also I went to Wal-Mart at Midnight to get POTC DMC 2-disc and they did have the True Life Adventures all 4 of them for sale about $25 each. I'll have to keep that in mind for the next wave of Walt Disney Legacy collection on DVD.

Now Also I didnt examine it silly me but I forgot to see if it was indeed a tin or what it was for sure. Anyway tomorrow is the scheduled delivery date for my order. They split my order up with 2 differ shippers.

So tomorrow These will be arriving at my doorstep via UPS and DHL:

True Life Adventures Volume 1
True Life Adventures Volume 2
True Life Adventures Volume 3
True Life Adventures Volume 4
Animaniacs volume 2
Pinky and the Brian Volume 2
Garfield Behind the scenes with Mini Ty Beanie Garfield.

So I will be busy for a while and next week Narnia 4-disc Gift Set and Fox and the Hound 2

I have to disagree with you on this. My 5 year old son loves nature shows and I can't get these soon enough (Wal-Mart didn't have them at 8:15 this morning).

Also, these are not just nature documentaries. They have story lines to them for the most part and sound effects Mickey Moused to the actions of the animals. They were primarily filmed and edited to ENTERTAIN, not to inform or push a conservation agenda.

Thomashton,

I believe you are absolutely right. About a year-and-a-half ago, I put Water Birds on for a group of kids from 3-5 grade. (Many were from the lower socio-economic class--that sometimes means they are tougher to involve in a movie.) There were those who snickered at the beginning of the film, but those who thought the birds were neat were able to shame the critics into silence. After getting a couple of minutes into the program all the children were very entertained. They laughed at the humor and found the animal behaviors very fascinating. I think any child who isn't bored out of thier mind at the zoo should absolutely love these films. There are some facts that are expressed in the film, but it is sugar-coated...very sugar-coated.

Well, I went to the Roy Disney signing at 12:30 (on my lunchbreak). It was really cool to meet him. He was running late and seemed kind of tired, but he was very friendly.
I bought TLA sets 1 & 3 for him to sign - I'll have to put the other two on my Christmas list.
I asked him about People & Places, and he said that those should be coming out - no date, though, but he said that they're important to get out there just like the TLAs.
I then asked him about Destino and what's going to be on the DVD in addition to the short. He said 2 things: A documentary about Dali & Disney, and a documentary about the making of the film. So, that should be pretty cool. I don't have a camera so I didn't get a picture, but there was a photographer there who took pictures of Roy.

I picked up all four at Wal Mart today.

I am not sure what the problem with the packaging is. Its sturdy and the reel thing is metal.

I cant wait to watch Perri and White Wilderness.

Got mine today at Sam's Club. Bought all 4 of them. They weren't out on the shelves and had to ask a worker who brought out a big pallet of new releases. This was at 12:15 BTW.

Anyway, got them for $21.46 apiece. Best price I've see yet.

I am excited. Going on a business trip in about an hour, so I have a couple nights uninterrupted to watch. Can't wait.
