Well, I have officially seen the Wii on an HDTV (1080p), with both the regular cables that come with the Wii, and the component cables that you purchase from Nintendo. The game was The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess. I have to say, it looked great, both ways. The component cables had the edge, as the colors were a bit richer, and everything was sharper. However, either way, the game looked great! So, there is no need to worry about having "sore eyes", because it looks great, either way!

Thanks. I'll have to read a bit into this. What troubles me is that not all of the games are 480p enabled (for example Rayman), so I need to know how these games are holding up on an HDTV.
MadonnasManOne wrote:Yanya, I haven't heard back. Is your Wii now working, or are you still having trouble?
Hopefully, your Wii is working. However, if not, hopefully this will help you. Maybe I should be glad that I didn't get one of the launch units. Hopefully, by the time I pick up my Wii, these issues will be resolved!
Thanks for the concern, but it finally Updated after about a million failed attempts. I am pleased ... though I feel bad for the people that will have to send their Wii back in. Hopefully next time there's an Update I won't have to go thru all of this again.
Thanks to all that offered to help with my Avatar...Starion, RJKD23 and cj!
Christmas came early for me! I got my Wii! Long story, with the details, follows!
I was talking to my Mom on the phone, last night, and mentioned that I should try to stand in line at Best Buy, this morning, as I knew they were going to have a mininum of 12 Wii's. She asked if that is what I wanted for Christmas. I said, "Well, if Santa is bringing it, I surely will take it." She laughed, and said, "No, but, Santa may give you some money, so you can buy one. How much does one of these cost?" I told her, and she said, "Well, I'm giving you a few things, plus, I'll give you $150.00 cash for Christmas." I told her she didn't have to do that, and she said she wanted to. I also have a bonus coming from work. So, with the money she's giving me, plus the bonus, that would pay for my Wii. I told her that I had money to buy one, now. She told me that I should try my luck. So, after we finished talking on the phone, I couldn't decide whether to wait until after Christmas, and pick one up when supply should be better, or try my luck. I decided to get up early, and go to Best Buy. I set my alarm for 6:00 a.m., thinking that would give me time to get ready, and drive to the nearest Best Buy by 7:00 a.m. I went to bed, and had this weird dream about going to buy a Wii, but, when I opened the box, it was a PS3! I was like, "I don't want this thing!" Then, for some reason, I opened the hood of the PS3, and the Wii was inside of it! Anyway, I woke straight out of bed, and noticed that it was 4:30 a.m. I figured this was a sign to leave earlier. I got up, took a shower, got on the net for a bit, and then headed out. I gathered some stuff I was going to trade, later in the day, at EB Games. I decided to trade in my PSP, games, accessories, etc, for EB Games store credit, because it only collects dust. Anyway, I got to the Best Buy, and there were already 13 people waiting in line. I got out of the car, and it was around 6:30 a.m. I get up to the line, and these two guys asking if I was there for Wii. I told them I was, and they said, "Looks like you are lucky. They have 22." Well, that sounds good. I wasn't sure if I should believe them, but, they said that the manager had come out, earlier, and told them that they would hand out tickets, so that they wouldn't have to stand in line all night. Apparently, these guys had been there since midnight! Anyway, the time passes, more people show up, and it seems time is going so slowly. This father, who was really nice, was the person in front of me. He was there to buy one for his two children. He confirmed the story about the manager coming out, and saying they would hand out tickets. He said, "It doesn't seem like they are coming out, anytime soon." Long story short, the line now far exceeds 22 people, and its getting closer to open. Finally, at 9:10 a.m., they came out, and handed the tickets. They confirmed they only had 22 units, and they would hand out tickets from the front of the line. Needless to say, there were a TON of people who missed out. I was #14, and I could not contain my happiness when I got the ticket. So, 10:00 a.m. comes, they lead us ALL the way through to the back of the store, only to lead us back up to the register. I have no idea why?! All of the people who had shown up right at opening were racing after us, following the line, trying to figure out what we were doing. This lady yelled, "Where do we get the Wii?" I told her they handed out tickets, and then this other lady yelled, "Where do you get the tickets", as she was racing after me. I yelled back, "The tickets have already been given out", and several people sighed. I finally got to the register, handed in my ticket, and they handed me my Wii! Sweet GLORY!
Then, I went to EB Games, traded in all my PSP stuff, got $120 in store credit, picked up Zelda: Twilight Princess, and came home! There were quite a few people waiting there, hoping for a Wii. They didn't have any in, and said they didn't know when they would get anymore in. Another guy showed up, and asked for a PS3, and the EB Games guy just laughed, and said, "You have a better chance of getting a Wii".
Long story, but, I had to get it out. I've been playing with my Wii since I got home, and am just now taking a break.
I didn't get to buy one as one of my co-workers got the last one we had at work (bought myself a 30GB iPod Video with the money instead) but one of my friends brought it over when a few of us were hanging out and I got to play it. It. Was. FUN.
We really only played Wii Sports for a little bit, but I loved the tennis game the most. Fun stuff. Oh, baseball was hell on my right arm... it's still sire today and I played 2 days ago.
In 12 days i'll have my Wii I'm thinking of getting to Gamestation at 8:30am because that's the time they're opening, i'll also get Zelda, Classic Controller and all the Wii Points I can get with the money i'll have left over
For anyone that's interested, you don't necessarily need a classic controller to play virtual console games. All Nintendo and TurboGrafx games will work with either the Gamecube controller or the Wii controller. The only question are the Genesis games. See the link for more details.

Congrats! I hope the first couple of Updates went / go better for you than they did for me.
I downloaded my first VC Title Monday ... SimCity. It's pretty good, I remember playing it all the time back on the SNES. I wish I had waited until yesterday though! I got home from work to find out that they had put Ecco the Dolphin up while I was out ... No fair!
... oh! Have you guys seen online ... people have found out that the Sensor Bar isn't really necessary. It's true! (Well, kind of ... ) Basically all it does, is flash 10 little lights. The Wii-Mote picks up on this and figures out where it's pointed. People have been playing Wii by Candle.
... see?! Basically all you need as I understand it ... are two objects that have IR Field thingys. You space them apart a bit ... and BAM! Sensor Bar.
I dunno, I thought it was kind of cool ... though I'll just stick with the regular Sensor Bar.

Thanks, yanya! I've been enjoying it, and find it quite addictive. It really is an awesome system. I don't have a wireless router, yet. I plan to get one, soon. I'm hoping that, when I do, the update process will be painless.
Yes, I've seen several people playing by using candles as the "sensor". I think that's crazy. The candles have to be in front of the television. I can just see it now. Someone setting their television on fire. It is kind of cool, however. I just wouldn't recommend it.
Well, the Wii officially came out in Australia today, so I picked mine up on the way home, along with Zelda: Twilight Princess.
Loving it at the moment, although it has been - admittedly - a long time since I owned a console.
The Tennis game on the WiiSports is by far the most intuitive, as I used to play "real" tennis a fair bit, and if you use the correct stances, the Wii responds accordingly. Boxing is less so, because to get the effective punches it is really more like flyfishing. I've found moving around, as silly as it feels at first, really helps that out too.
But let's face it - Zelda was the big drawcard here. It's big, it's adventure-gaming and you could literally wander around for hours just exploring without doing the quests and still have fun.
Can't wait until my component cables arrive so I can amp this puppy up a notch.
The Merman wrote:Yeh it is release in Belgium tommorow 8 december! I just hope I can get one somewhere and they dont sell out in like a minute!
If the launch in Europe is anything like the launch anywhere else you may want to get in line now or within the next few hours to get one on launch day.
Also, for all of you with the PAL format it sounds as though you may have some problems with the Virtual Console games playing in 50Hz so things are slower with black bars at the top and bottom of the screen. More can be found here...
My Wii went into processing yesterday and was posted today. Play.com say it will come by courier so I'll have to get up early to wait for the post.
One thing though my copy of Zelda TP from Amazon.co.uk has only just gone to saying its been posted, will it arrive tomorrow??
I hope so, its the only game I've ordered. Marvel Alliance was delayed till the 15th.
I have my Wii + Zelda + Red Steel and I got a Classic Controller and 2000 Points and bought Super Mario 64 and Donkey Kong Country (only Europe have DKC so far)
